About Dr. Lynn Didonato Canavan
Reviews for Dr. Lynn Didonato Canavan
She is very attentive to my needs. She made sure to call my medical oncologist directly to make sure that I was given the best care possible for cancer. Before my mastectomy, I was given all the information needed to ensure that I was prepared before and after surgery.
I would recommend against Dr. Canavan at all costs. My 1st apt with her was pushed back by her 2 times, and I had to fight to even keep my 3rd time slot. Clearly not feeling important as a patient. I was told by her team that I was having a biopsy. When I get to her office for her to only look at images, I asked about the biopsy I was told I was having. She looked at me like I was crazy and said condescendingly, "Why would I be doing a biopsy? I'd never do that on the 1st apt?" Maybe because there's a tumor in my boob and that's what your team told me. I felt embarrassed and dumb in an already stressful situation. She then measured my tumor in a halfheartedly and said it was .5 cm. I am not a doctor, but I could feel it, and I could have told you that was wrong. I proceed to elect to have it removed, and was equally disappointed in her at surgery time. She "checked in" pre-op, didn't ask if I had questions, and I never saw her after. My tumor ended up being 3x what she said.
The care, efficiency and professionalism I received with Dr Canavan and her staff was outstanding. My questions and concerns were explained before I even asked. Can’t thank them enough.

Outstanding surgeon who reviews diagnosis, surgery options, and follow up care.
7 days after my MRI She still won't call me with my results. I had to drive to her office and pick the results up so I could take them to another provider. She is clearly too busy to be bothered. When you call her office, expect the phone to ring for 5 minutes before they pick up the phone and every time i spoke to someone I was put on hold and then hung up on me. Everyone says she is the best, and she very well could be if you could get her to call and let you know what is going on.
Very disappointed in her bedside manner following my mother's surgery. The day following surgery when my mom was still in the hospital she wasn't able to tell us how many lymph nodes she had taken. Dr. Canavan's response to to our question was, "I have no idea. I had six surgeries yesterday, I can't remember. " It seems like she should have reviewed her own notes prior to stepping into the hospital room. When examining the surgery site she remarked, "I should have taken more off here. Well we can go back in and fix this." That is not something anyone wants to hear the day after a double mastectomy. Dr. Canavan was in a big hurry to get to other cases and didn't have time to answer any of our questions. Her abruptness made me feel like my mother was just a patient on a converyor belt to her. That being said, I do think she is a competent surgeon. Very disappointed in her bedside manner following my mother's surgery. Dr. Canavan carefully explained everything, offered options, and really listened to my concerns.
She us the best! Very caring.
Dr Canavan was great. Trusted her completely
No one wants to hear you have cancer. How grateful I heard it from Dr. Canavan. My heart stopped but she held my hand through it. She is kind, brilliant and saved my life. God bless you Dr. Canavan for being an angel on this earth.

When she says “it will be ok”, I believe her! She definitely wants what is best for her patients. My family and I trust her completely and with this type of journey, that is extremely important.
Dr. Canavan is a very caring and compassionate practitioner. I felt very confident in her care.
I was referred to Dr. Canavan and told she was one of the best. As I went to different test and procedures I continued to hear how so many fellow medical associates considered her the best. All this made me feel very encouraged. I have to say I have agreed with each person that told me these things. She scheduled multiple test to make sure we weren't missing anything before we went into surgery. She was very honest with me, but also listened to what I said or questions I had. I truly have to say how blessed I feel that I was referred to someone that made me feel we were going to make it through this ordeal. I pray you never need this type of treatment, but if you find that you do, I would highly recommend Dr. Canaban and her team.
Dr. Canavan is very thorough. She speaks to me clearly about my disease. She cares about my life, not just treatments for my MBC.
She may be a good surgeon, but her bedside manner is horrible. I wish I could say it was nonexistent, because even that would be better than her curt, snarky attitude. If I could give her 0 stars I would. Her god complex is not becoming of her.
I am glad Dr. Canavan was my surgeon. She is very seasoned. A friend's daughter is also a breast surgeon and said if she ever needed breast surgery that Dr. Canavan would be her choice too. Office staff is wonderful also.

Dr. Canavan is very kind and cares about her patients. I highly recommend her.
Dr. Canavan is good at what she does. She explains what you want to know and will answer any questions you have. I have never felt rushed or that she didn't have time for me. Her staff has always been friendly and courteous.
I was impressed with the friendly and efficient staff. The Dr was knowledgeable and kind. It was as good an experience as was possible in the circumstances.
Dr Canavan displayed a very curt attitude and rushed . I feel in her field of practice she should build rapport with patients rather than leave them confused and frustrated.

Doctor Canavan is a very good doctor, she knows and use her tools very skillfully, I thank her for saving my life, in my behalf, am still living with her skills, thanks to the creator JEHOVAH God who fortify her with the skill
Dr. Canavan is straightforward and knowledgeable. Her staff connected me with referrals and communicated in a timely manner about test results. I am very grateful to her for beginning the first steps of my cancer treatment.

Uncaring and unwilling to find out the cause of severe pain increasing over time. Basically said there's nothing she could do. Very disappointed.
Yes! I would recommend her. I’ve been to Dr. Canavan several times with an ongoing medical issue. I must say at times I thought I understood everything that was explained to me, but I didn’t fully grasp everything. I had so many questions and felt lost at times regarding my condition. I called the office and asked to speak to Dr. Canavan. I received a call back from her and she explained everything in great detail. She took her time with me until I grasped all the information she had given me. I wanted to take the time to thank her and to let her know much I greatly appreciate her professionalism, her patience and the time she took out of her day to communicate my concerns and questions in a fashion that was easy for me to understand.
Dr Canavan is very direct and to the point in her interactions with me. I really appreciate that.
I love Dr. Canavan! She made me feel so secure in my treatment plan and in the knowledge that I would be fine.
I am cancer free today because of Dr. Canavan. After my initial visit with her, I was quite confident in her abilities. My family doctor who made the initial diagnosis, also spoke highly of her. She has a process, when and what tests to do and when to see the Oncologist. I trusted Dr. Canavan and her streamlined cancer treatment process, and today, I am able to smile again. My cancer journey was a short one because she was able to get all the cancer out with clear margins. No chemo needed. Thank you Dr. Canavan for being the very best at what you do! The entire staff, be it the receptionist, surgery scheduler, benefits counselor, or the nurse practitioners were very efficient and quick in addressing my concerns. Everybody was well aware that they were dealing with cancer patients and took their job seriously. Thank you!
If you need or want to see a breast surgeon for any reason, you want the beat, right? Well Dr Canavan IS the best in her field! She explains exactly what is going on, doesn’t give vague or over your head responses and has YOUR best interest.
Dr Canavan listens well and thoroughly. She is very informative and patient with her patients.
Dr. Canavan was my second consult after being diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. I made my decision almost immediately after meeting her that she was what I needed to get through this. "so are you ready to fight?" I was like heck yeah!!! I have 2 babies to raise. Her office works like a well oiled machine!! Efficient is an understatement!! Within a week I had my consult with my oncologist set up, my scans were scheduled and my port placement surgery was planned!! I had a bunch of questions I'd come up with after consulting with dr. Google, and I never felt rushed. She explained my options very clearly and offered me great resources that I consulted and continue to do so! I am happy that I responded well to the treatment plan and I am now cancer free. God bless you Dr. Canavan
I cannot say anything about Dr Canavan because I haven't seen her. Her staff at the Plano location is incompetent. If you can't get to see the doctor due to staff issues, then there is a problem.
Be prepared to wait, well over an hour both times seeing her. Not sure if she over books or what, but it’s very frustrating waiting with no update or reason why. She is a good surgeon, but doesn’t schedule her time appropriately.
I initially really liked the PA Jacq (you are only allowed to see PA because unless you have actual breast cancer). She put me on a good preventative schedule of MRI/Mammo/Office visits. Things changed once I had a MRI that showed a highly suspicious area, which had grown from -0- at Halloween, to 3" long in May. It was followed by a mammo and biopsy. I was not allowed to speak to Dr. Canavan about any of this until my biopsy results came in, which was almost a month later. My pathology report was written in a little confusing way, and there was both a non cancerous diagnosis and precancerous diagnosis on there as well. At the appointment a week later, Dr. Canavan told me great! I didn't have cancer and could continue the same regiment. When she looked at the report again, she told me she'd follow up with the lab that day because of the confusing wording and that it could be something more. We decided at that appointment to do a prophylactic double mastectomy and started the process with her office. She told me there was no rush, but I wanted to get it done in summer. Because I was getting a second opinion, I went to the hospital 5 days later and was able to pick up the amended report at the hospital which clarified I did have precancerous cells which would require additional intervention. I called her office multiple times for 2 1/2 weeks and kept being put off my the PA saying they were still working to get the report, hadn't forgotten about me. A full 3 weeks after that appointment Dr. Canavan called me herself and left a vm with a panicked message that I needed to get in immediately for a lumpectomy to determine if there was cancer in any area the biopsy didn't test. I called immediately back (I had been driving) and wasn't allowed to speak to her nor have her call me back!! I said can someone please have the doctor call me and tell me if I have to do a lumpectomy in addition to the mastectomies. I had already been scheduled reconstruction surgeon appointments by their office, so they were fully aware mastectomies were what I was doing. Instead the PA called, and kept telling me it was likely cancer, but calling it the other non cancerous diagnosis and saying it wasn't the precancerous one. I had to correct her and told her to look at the lab report. She did and realized her mistake, but called it noncancerous 3x again afterwards. She also don't worry because the dr now said I didn't have to do the lumpectomy because she had forgotten I was doing the mastectomy! I got the impression she hadn't even spoken to the doctor. I don't understand how a report was not looked at for 3 weeks despite my calling repeatedly, and that the doctor hadn't read over my chart before telling me I needed a lumpectomy. The PA also told me I'd never have to have a mammogram again, which Dr. Canavan said the opposite. What if I went back to find out in 6 months to find out it was now cancer because they dropped the ball?? Additionally, my 2nd opinion dr said a lumpectomy is not a good choice when doing a mastectomy after bc it will make the surgery harder and results would not be as good. I will say Dr. Canavan herself was very thorough at the appointment, and allowed plenty of time for questions. I just think her practice is too big to follow up appropriately and stay on top of her patients. My gynecologist said she stopped referring to Canavan bc of similar stories. She said she's just become too busy and relies on her PA to do a lot of the work other than surgery. I have opted to use Dr. Alex Miller for the oncology surgeon and PRMA Plastic Surgery Center for Breast Advanced Reconstruction (Dr. Nastala) in San Antonio. If you do stay with Canavan be sure you take tons of notes on your diagnosis, research it, and know if there is something you need to stay on them to follow up. I initially really liked the PA Jacq (you are only allowed to see PA because unless you have actual breast cancer). She put me on a good preventative schedule of MRI/Mammo/Office visits. Dr Canavan is an incredible Dr. Would use her again if I ever needed breast surgery again.
Dr. Canavan is a great doctor/surgeon. She explained my test results and care plan clearly and answered any questions that I had. She has a wonderful staff that is professional and kind, and willing to help anyway they can.
If I could give no stars, I would. Very poor bedside manner, demeaning and condescending in her remarks, and very rushed and preoccupied during visits. She was texting on her phone as my husband was trying to talk to her, which is just unprofessional. After SEVERAL surgeries with her and not getting clear margins for a tiny tumor, I switched surgeons. Thank God! My first surgery with my new doctor was successful. Would NOT recommend this surgeon to anyone. She also has her own fees which are separate from your insurance fees, just FYI. My new surgeon was 1/3 of what Canavan charged and a much better experience and outcome.
Disappointing. She came highly recommended to me. She appeared angry and exhausted during my appointment. She did not care to get to know me as a patient.
She puts her patients first, never was more comfortable with a doctor in my life.
Bedside manner is terrible
Dr. Canavan was highly recommended to me by everyone I talked to and I can see why - yes, she is direct and pulls no punches - if you want fluff and flowers - find someone else. I wanted someone who would be real with me and tell me like it is and that is what she did. I had problems but she came in on Thanksgiving day and took care of me - she held my hand and cried with me when I was in pain - this is a person who truly cares! Thank you Dr. Canavan
Today is my 3rd year anniversary of my surgery. There are no words to describe how grateful I am. I hit the jackpot with Dr. Caravan, thank you for everything you and Dr. Lemmon did.
I would not recommend Dr Canavan. She has no bedside manner and does not inform you of anything. I had to do all the research. She did answer those questions. I have had one infection after another and she says it from bacteria on by body. I feel like chemo is being pushed on me. She doesn’t care about how long your life is put on hold.

BEST mom, surgeon, and sports fan ever!!!!
literally the best ever! most amazing mom and surgeon! love you mommy????
Wonderful doctor. Was so helpful. Explained everyone precisely and clearly.
Very professional surgeon's office. Dr. Canavan and her staff have such concert of efficiency. Her staff accompanies her into every appointment in the ready to make immediate notes into the patient's records, as well as notes to be sent to her on the patient. The Doctor listens and gives detailed responses. Very capable hands.
I would not recommend this doctor. She has limited bedside manner, came across as rushed, and is a bit condescending. I am an RN and know how doctors should treat their patients. I wanted a biopsy and she decided I didn't need one, even though I asked twice. I have the same issue recurring again, but will go elsewhere. Even my OBGYN, who initially referred her, said some of her other patients had similar reports of her demeanor. She gave me another recommendation for another doctor.

Horrible experience. Would not recommend. No compassion for her patients either.
Something has changed in this office. Several years ago, when I was diagnosed, I found Dr. Canavan and her staff to be wonderful. The last few years, the office has declined and Dr. Canavan seems to be a different person. I do not recommend this doctor.

She's a nice lady, positive, and capable. I'm less inclined to say so of her office staff. I got hit with a bill after being told what my copay was, which I paid. Then, roughly nine months later I received a large bill that was a shocker. I felt like there was something shady going on, and when I called people were less than helpful. It was disappointing to say the least. She's a nice lady, positive, and capable. I'm less inclined to say so of her office staff. Few things turn life upside down like a cancer diagnosis! It was comforting to know that I had an experienced & determine "fighter" to help fight on my side. From surgeries to consultations, Dr Canavan always took the time I needed, came by the hospital, listened to my concerns & offered advice but ultimately let me steer my course. Along the way, every where I went (hospitals, radiologists, etc) would asked who my surgeon was... & complimented when I answered. I can't thank her enough.

I do not recommend and if I could put less stars I would. Dr. Canavan has no regard for the patients feelings in such a difficult time in their life. She refused to show me my results or explain the data of my cancer & was ready to push chemo on me stating that im on a need to know basis. Not only was the staff rude to me I was utterly appalled by the way my kids and myself were treated and spoken to. This was by far the worse experience of my life not to mention a 2 hour wait minimum. Horrible

Dr. Canavan is a superb physician who cares about the outcome of one's life. I was recently diagnosed with stage 1 cancer and Dr. Canavan consulted with me about the best course of action. Her staff were extremely well organized and oversaw my schedule from the day I was diagnosed to the 1-week follow-up appointment. I felt satisfied with her outstanding treatment of me and her knowledge breast cancer. Thank you!!!
