I was incredibly impressed with the amount of attention that Dr. Barta spent with me. She was extremely thorough and patient with me. She took her time to really listen to me and explain what was happening. I felt like she really was concerned about my health and helping me to get the best help for my condition.
In September 2017, I was seen by Dr. Barta for abnormal bleeding at 33 weeks. I had a placenta previa confirmed by a maternal-fetal medicine specialist, which I shared with Dr. Barta. Dr. Barta performed an abdominal ultrasound, decided that I no longer had this condition, and sent me home. My placenta continued to slowly tear and bleed over the next few days until I had a massive hemorrhage and was rushed to the hospital via ambulance. Because of Dr. Barta's misdiagnosis, I did not receive appropriate medical care. She ignored the information that I shared with her, I can only assume because I was a young single mother at the time. My child did not have the opportunity to receive the antenatal steroid that would have prevented the years of lung complications we have endured. I have spent the years since studying medicine and advocating tirelessly for myself, my child, and now the patients I care for.
