Dr. Luis Chu

Just a huge WOW! My journey has been an interesting one ! Dr Chu has been outstanding. Not only dealing with my issues and figuring out what’s going on, but the kindness and caring is the very very best! I have so much faith and trust in this Dr. As I do everyone at Florida Cancer institute!!! And my Drs from SHM!!! Simply the best!!!

Dr. Chu listens and goes out of his way to help. He is empathetic, kind and keeps up with the condition of his patients. He is proactive, not reactive. He is exactly the doctor I want when under a drastic diagnosis.

I've been under the care of Dr. Chu for over a year for my advanced cancer. He ranks up there among any doctor I've ever seen in my life as one of the best. He's both very caring and very knowledgeable and his staff is the same. I'd give him more than five stars if I could!

Dr. chu is very professional and goes the extra mile to check the findings.

I saw Dr.Chu for the first time today for clots DVTs & PEs. First time in my life where the doc arrived a few minutes before the appointment time. He clearly read my records beforehand and explained everything. Showed me the drug trials and risks of the medications on his computer. He went over what had been done by other docs & ER and came up with the plan & coordination with PCP & vascular doc. It was clear he had genuine concern and was not at all rushed to get out of the room. I like the guy and feel good about it. I would recomend him. Also FCS seems like a well run operation. He is thorough and very caring - always ready to listen and concludes with the invitation to call him anytime there are questions/concerns. I know from friends that he has excellent chairside manner when telling the worst news one would imagine hearing - and even followed with a phone call to the widow are her husband died. His staff is also very caring - a perfect way to start an appointment before he comes in for the review - whether first or one of many, as in my case.

Dr. Luis Chu saved my life. In April 2013, I was diagnosed with blood cancer. Upon my initial visit to Florida Cancer Specialists, Dr. Chu told me do NOT go home, go directly to the hospital. I had surgery that night and began my first " week long" treatment of intensive chemotherapy the next day.. Not only was my cancer advanced to stage 4, but extremely aggressive. It had come on quickly and spread everywhere in my body. My extensive chemo sessions also included direct injection of chemo into my spinal fluid on four different occasions. The treatment plan Dr. Chu prescribed for me, (H-CVAD), included multiple types of chemo. One of my nurses at the hospital said I had nine toes in the grave. I was very sick. Eventually, Dr. Chu pinpointed my cancer sub-type to Mantle Cell Lymphoma, and even worse the extremely rare Blastoid variant. My best chance for survival was to have a Bone Marrow Transplant. I was blessed that my sister was a perfect match and I began testing to undergo the transplant at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. I was away for the Bone Marrow Transplant for 3 months. My immune system would be totally eliminated and would be completely and rebuilt using my sister's bone marrow. My blood would change to my sister's DNA, as well as to her blood type. Miraculous, indeed. My transplant was very difficult but I was determined to win my fight against this cancer. By January 1st, 2014, I was declared in remission and on my way to a long and slow recovery. Frederick Locke, M.D., my transplant Dr. told me that all of the choices Dr. Luis Chu presented me for treatment were absolutely the BEST decisions for my very unique case. Although Dr. Luis Chu had never treated anyone with the Blastoid variant of Mantle Cell Lymphoma before me or since, his expertise in hematology has given me a second chance at life. Dr. Chu is a wonderful oncologist who is smart and thoughtful (most important) and listens carefully to what i have to say. He is also very responsive to my email and voice messages. . Also he's very gentle and soft spoken. I am crazy about him! While i wish I didn't need an oncologist, since i do need one, I'm so glad he's mine. His nurse Sarah is likewise great. Shes very knowledgeable and nice and responsive. And as much as i like her i always see the doctor and her for my appointments, unlike many other Sarasota doctors.
