Lucia R Tuffanelli

I was recommended to this dermatologist by a primary physician from Sutter Health. Had to wait more than an hour for a cursory 5-minute diagnosis of a major concern of mine that was dismissed off as being minor as compared to her old age wrinkles. No empathy. No thoroughness. Charged $200+. Avoid, if you can.

The doctor: Dr. Lucia Tuffanelli is the best, no-nonsense smart and experienced and with a soft touch. I trust her more than other doctors. She’s so smart, just like her father, Dr. Denny Tuffanelli. The office: spacious with seating far apart from each other. Non-clinical feeling with stately Asian/Indonesian? furniture that seems relaxing, no cold plasticly tuppaware chairs like other offices. Staff: Fast, experienced, they get the job done on time. Sure, the office is busy at times like any other high demand medical office in a large urban metropolis. Try going to UCSF, SF Kaiser, SF CPMC, or SF Sutter Health offices, they’re worse. This place is based on science and medicine, not personal vanity. Look elsewhere if you’re looking for an office with an overly nice fashionably dressed staff trying to upsell you, that does not take insurance, offering celery- infused organic water.

She yells at her patients, is rude, dismissive, not considerate of their life choices, and certainly is not patient. There are plenty of dermatologists out there that are also kind and listen to their patients. Dr. Tuffanelli is not one of them.

The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because I like Dr. Tuffanelli personally and the front desk has improved their attitude. But the wait time is still unnecessary and is very long. I have an appointment, I make it on time or early, I expect the same courtesy. This office is not busy today, yet I sit and wait. Average wait time here is 1 ½ hours. Totally absurd. And I have been a patient for over 15 years so I know what I am talking about. I do think Dr. Lucia Tuffanelli is a good doctor though. I have been seeing the Tuffanellies for 40 years starting withe her father. While the office seems hecd overwhelmed they are very busy. It has improved a lot. I believe they are busy because they are the best. There are long wait times sometimes but I think that is because they never rush through a visit. They are very thorough checking not only on the specific problem but investing whether it could be caused by oter bigger health problems. Once I remember having a second Dr called in to consult then being referred to the head of dermatology at UCSF. I don't think there are any better dermatologists. As a healthcare worker I found the staff professional, considerate and polite. Dr Tuffanelli was excellent. Very thoughtful and supportive. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone.

Dr. Tuffanelli is one the best dermatologists in SF. Yes, sometimes I wait for 10-20 minutes but I get it - she’s busy because she’s good. I’ve seen at least half a dozen dermatologists in SF and she’s the best. I really don’t mind the wait as long as someone can solve my skin issues.

I don't understand the bad reviews. Front desk was friendly and prompt, wait time was <5 minutes, and Dr. Tuffanelli has a great bedside manner. Horrible service Front desk is completely uneducated, rude, unprofessional, lazy Doctor's have no idea what they are doing. Do not go here.

Lucia R. Tuffanelli, M.D. Runs about 1 hour and 45 minutes late. She is always running behind. Do yourself a favor a call before you arrived.

Horrible bedside manner. Super long wait to be seen. Very unfriendly and unprofessional, does not even crack a tiny smile. Left her office feeling like the whole experience and interaction was so unpleasant.

Dr. Lucia Tuffanelli was 45 minutes late to my appointment. She never apologized or addressed her lateness. She was disoriented & erratic unable to work her own laptop. She was rude & condescending. She offered very little help. She couldn't explain the medical grading of safe for the products she was prescribing me (she had to Google it). I will not be returning.

Excellent dermatologist, who is highly respected by her peers. Has treated me as a patient for over 20 years for a range of derm problems.

As a patient with psoriasis I have had a number of dermatologists so I know when one is good. She knows what she is talking about, takes the time to listen to you, and gives good recommendations. However, her style is very direct. I personally love this, but if you are the type of person who wants a pat on the head and chit chat then go somewhere else.

I love Dr. Tuffanelli (and have been going to her for about 15 years) because she is honest, tells it like it is and doesn't encourage me to do things that really don't need to be done. I had a dermatologist once tell me I had to have a mole removed from my back, which I did, at great expense, and later found out the procedure had been completely unnecessary. Dr. Tuffanelli also helped my daughter with an acne problem. She's just a great doctor :)
