Called into hospital in 2021 for a consult. Upon seeing me for a grand total of 5 minutes he diagnosed me with a personality disorder. (I've been tested 6 time by psychiatrists with the same results ptsd & anxiety) I was admitted for acute pancreatitis and his consult was to find out if it was from one of my autoimmune illnesses. He came in during medication time. Never examined me. Didn't check bloodwork. Said I didn't need pain meds and was faking it for attention. I spent over 15 days in the hospital to get it under control. The site attack was due to surgery by another doctor that damaged my pancreas forever. Do not sell this doctor out. He's unethical and immoral. And treats his patients while getting them disability which should be illegal. And by no means visit any hospital in port charlotte.
I posted a review a few days ago and it was removed for some reason? So once again here is my review. Dr. Tar prescribed a medication for me to try. Soon after I began using it I began to have terrible side effects. The drug manufacture advised me to contact the prescribing doctor for help and advice. I tried for a week and a half to contact Dr. Tar without success. Each time I called I was placed on extended hold, without even a chance to identify myself or what I was calling about. This was not the first time I have had this issue with contacting Dr. Tar office. He apparently is short staffed or is not concerned about his patients ability to communicate with his office? I called another doctors office and got immediate help and was not put on hold at all. I think Dr. Tar is a good doctor. However there is a problem with communications. No matter how good a doctor is if you can not reach him then he is of no help.
Excellent service.

Best Allergy/Rheumatologist in town or maybe the whole world. If not for Dr Tarr and his nurse practitioner, Karen, I don't think I would be walking today. Karen has worked with me and what medications worked best for my rheumatoid arthritis. I'm a retired RN so I know a good doctor when I see one. This includes every single member of their staff. I truly love them all!! I almost didn't write this review because I wanted to keep them all to myself! LOL!!! Best Allergy/Rheumatologist in town or maybe the whole world. On April 20 2022 i had an appointment with DR Tar,i was told there was a co-pay due.on arrival to his office i presented my credit card to pay they would not accept it 0nly cash or check and would not let me see the doctor until i paid the balance. I explained that i did not have any cash with me could they bill me told me to find an atm to get cash and return. This was not my first visit and i was very angry that they would treat a patient in this manner so i complied thinking they would charge me weather or not i would see the doctor,as i was driving looking for an a.t.m i had an accident i called the office to let them know they asked if i was still coming in.NO COMPASSION no asking if i was alright .P.S I received a bill few days later even though they refused my request to bill me at the office visit. Is this any way to care for a patient?
Horrible experience. The Doctor only takes cash, no credit cards or debit cards. the office was small and crowded, and they did not let any family members go in with me to translate. Also they did not have a Spanish speaking nurse. One of the Patients in the waiting room felt bad and offered us $25 cash we told her thanks for seeing our dilemma, but that we were leaving any way. I was pleasantly surprised. Finding a knowledgeble doctor with great bedside manner and empathy is not an easy task. He spent time listening and answering questions. His priority is to improve my quality of life and I totally believed him!!!
If your insurance takes longer than 30 days to pay, this isn’t the place for you. My first 2 visits with doctor Tar were paid right away from my insurance. I started weekly allergy shots and when i went for my 4th round of shots today, I was told my insurance had not paid yet for the first 3 rounds. They wanted me to call and argue with insurance for payment, which I agreed to do, and when I asked to get my shots that day, they refused and said I had to pay over $2,000 (cash or check, they will not take credit or debit cards). They acknowledged that they know my insurance will pay but was willing to lose a patient instead of waiting a little longer for payment. I walked out and when I got home and called my insurance, the rep said the negotiated contract price is $740 not $2,000 - she also said, legally they cannot ask a patient to pay more than the negotiated contract price. Being how they are a law office as well, you would think they would know better than to be dishonest. I am so disappointed in Dr Tar’s office, I may end up filing a claim against him. Dr. Tarr (and Karen) have done everything to make my like exceptional. My husband was helping me in and out of bed 9 months ago. I am able to take care of myself now. These diseases are complicated and Dr. Tarr takes the time to listen every time I am there. His office staff jumps through hoops every month dealing with insurance companies and schedules. Thank you Dr. Tarr!
I go to Doctor Tar because he is a Reumatoligst. He is also an attorney...very smart guy.
Dirty facilities. Very unhygienic…especially for a doctors office. Doctor won’t return phone calls or have staff answer my healthcare questions and treatment questions. Doctor did not want to share/give me a copy of my medical records. No one would return my many phones calls regarding my records. Seemly more of a chop shop than a healthcare provide to me. Not told beforehand that cash or checks are only means of payment so I was not prepared when going to first appointment. Then I waited 1/2 hour before checking with the receptionist only to be told that the attorney was still in a meeting and it would be a while longer. Horrible doctor, horrible staff, rude, self contained, not patient oriented. Nothing good can be said about this doctor or his office staff.
Dr. Tar is a good doctor but the office is poorly run. They make you wait for hours for your appointment, lose paperwork and havent given me my medical records for a month now after request since I transferred practices. This place sucks.
I went to Dr Tarr as a self pay sometime ago . I'm not lucky enough to have health insurance yes I work. Then the doctor got my blood work back and I had to make another appt to go over blood work. I wish we could have been able to discuss the results over phone due to my financial situation. And I just paid for my visit there . So now I have 200 as self pay cash money to see the Dr. However I made appt and the nurse called to tell me i needed blood work prior to appt when asking the cost she could not provide that. I asked for lab codes so i could personally call the labs and see who was most affordable. She could not provide that and canceled my appt. Not much compassion here. And I'm not asking for free just need to plan for my money I will need so I can save. I went to Dr Tarr as a self pay sometime ago . I'm not lucky enough to have health insurance yes I work. When I called to schedule a new patient rheumatology consult with Dr. Tar, the first appt available was not for 3 1/2 months. His office was extremely busy when Iarrived. The small waiting area did not have chairs separated to maintain social distance, but fortunately patient's were sitting every other chair, so I was able to find seat without sitting right next to someone. About an hour after I arrived, I was taken to a room for vitals, blood draw, brief review of my history & reason for my appt. I was incorrectly told at that time my insurance did not require prior authorization for treatment. However, another staff member confirmed the what my insurance had said that prior Auth was indeed required. Unfortunately, the process had not been completed prior to my appt inspite of my calling the office 2 weeks prior,, to let the office know who to contact for approval. Since this had not been completed, I was disappointed that I couldn't get this med during my appt. I was sent back to the waiting room. A while later another gal took me to a different room where eventually, Dr. Tar came in to see me. He was friendly and appeared to listen to me as we discussed my medical info. But then we were interrupted by knock on door, he left the room and never returned to resume my consult. I'm not sure if he got side tracked or thought we were done, but I thought he'd be back to finish our conversation. Instead I was taken up front to schedule tests & return visit. Overall, my appt took 2 hrs, 45 min, mostly spent in waiting room. I'm not sure if that's normal amount of time for appts or if there was extenuating circumstances today. But it was my first visit with Dr. Tar. He seemed to be very knowledgeable and thorough. So,, I pray my next appt takes considerably less time and the office has obtained the required prior authorization from my insurance. They are very considerate and help the patient get around the office.
He's my rhuematoid doctor. They do a great job taking care of their patients
Dr Tar is a rheumatologist and asthma specialist 4 days/ week also. I like him as my rheumatologist. Very empathetic and listeners when you tell him something.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr Tar and Karen. I was under his treatment for a year for PMR/GCA after being hospitalized because of a previous incorrect diagnosis. I am 6 months post treatment and doing great thanks to his expertise. He always was kind, caring and compassionate. Karen was always around to do the Infusion work and always willing to answer my questions and help!
Completely UNprofessional Practice. Office is not only filthy(!) but the room beyond the (old kitchen!) “Lab” thru the Dutch-door LOOKS like a DUMPSTER. (Karen may be fine?) but HE is the great “PRETENDER.” He ACTS as if he cares, but having multi- system problems (which a RHEUMATOLOGIST should be Very USED TO!!), he clearly doesn’t want to be bothered- MY “cannot continue to be your provider...” letter came about 10-days ago! ALL the Negative comments are TRUE! Do NOT be FOOLED! Rrrruuuuunnn for your LIFE!!!!!! And the Staff is MISERABLE- they are NOT “patient” people. And No, they do NOT return calls!!
I have been going to Dr. Tar for 4 years. He is a very sweet. However, his staff is ridiculous and rude. They do not care if you need your meds and they cancel your appointment the day of. I told Dr. Tar this and he was so surprised! Then I cancelled 3 appointments in 4 years and they told me they will no longer take me or give me enough meds to find another Dr! I tried calling them 3 times before to get a refill and they never called back and the pharmacist called too and nothing. I would suggest paying a better qualified staff more money to keep a good reference. Totally disappointed!! ??
This office and doctor does not care at all and only pushes the drugs companies give him to push. He told my mother she wasn't sick right before they found out she had a massive heart attack. He claimed she was mentally ill instead.
The office is filthy, blood being drawn in a dirty kitchen with no privacy, very long wait times, and no social distancing. Dr. Tar denied forwarding of my medical records to my new doctor. How disgraceful!
Dr Tar is nice enough and seems thorough... but my medical summaries on the patient portal have completely wrong diagnoses. Office does not return calls. Medical assistant removed his mask (during Covid) after we were alone in a patient room said "now we can relax a little." This doctor is about my only option with my insurance so i am grateful at least I have a rheumatologist.
Filthy and no privacy concerns. Can't keep a front desk person.
The doctor is competent and very nice but the practice is a mess. The practice represents the physician. Have waited an hour or more for allergy shots. Since this is not compatible with my work schedule, it is necessary for me to change doctors. After 7 phone calls from me over a week, no one is able to return my call and tell me when I can pick up the immunology vials (which my insurance paid for) and formula and shot records. I won't go into the details of the facility but sadly, my recommendation is to search for another doctor.

Horrible experience
Horrible Dr. & staff. Just plain rude, they ignore you, won't give you your test results, (which is against the Law). You pay for them. We had an appointment to go in to see the doctor but Dad was so miserable at 95 with Lupus, that we wanted confirmation immediately. The front girl had no heart, booked us out over 2 weeks after they actually had the results and after we had just seen the doctor. Dad tore his skin off, bloody from nose to toes, itching the Lupus rash. He was on Coumadin, so he bled under the skin also. His arms were heavy with all the blood in his skin flaps below his arms. They never smiled, never laughed, no empathy, no heart, just plain MEAN there! Take a number! Small open area, no space, doctor doesn't answer questions, not that knowledgeable. Very bad experience. Went to Seshadri after, wonderful doctor with a heart! Horrible Dr. & staff. Just plain rude, they ignore you, won't give you your test results, (which is against the Law). You pay for them. Only giving two stars because Karren the nurse practitioner should be the doctor, not Leslie Tar. They work their front desk girl WAY to much but she is always so sweet. Dr.Tar diagnosed me with fibromyalgia and didn’t explain much to me about it just wrote a script then walked out and scheduled me for the next 3 months. In those 3 months the meds gave me more problems and my primary took me off of them and put me on different ones. Then i had gotten another diagnoses occipital neuralgia from a neurologist and got put on more meds. Then i saw Dr.Tar again. Showed up to my appointment 30 minutes early and waited in the waiting room as usual for 2 hours. Normally youd think thats a good thing because then the doctoe is spending time with his patients. My turn comes up and he spends 5 minutes with me doesnt say a word to me KNOWING im dealing with chronic pain and suffering. Then interrupts me and says “let me see if i can get you some samples of lyrica” then he quickly walks out and doesnt walk back in (he didnt say goodbye my last appointment). Then a nurse comes in and says he wrote you a prescription for lyrica and wants to see you in 6 months. He never even said ANYTHING to me about lyrica. So i said no i want to talk to him. Then they send a nurse in with a print out of lyrica. And again i said NO i want to talk to him. Then they sent in Mrs. Karren Tar the nurse practitioner who actually has some KNOWLEDGE of fibromyalgia. She showed empathy and respect towards me and told me like it is. She explained that Dr. Tar made a note “to many cooks in the kitchen”. Well in my opinion hes a huge man child. If he is a doctor he needs to learn some confrontation. Unless he’s autistic maybe there should be alittle warning because patients like me need bed side manners. I do not recommend Dr. Tar what so ever untill he learns some respect and empathy for people with chronic invisible illnesses. I travel an hour to come to this office. Thank you Karren for keeping that place in tack. Only giving two stars because Karren the nurse practitioner should be the doctor, not Leslie Tar. Great doctor. Wonderful staff. Doctor on time
The doctor and his wife are awesome. They zoned in on the problem and are helping me.
As a new patient, I felt very welcomed. The doc seem to shoot straight while being very knowledgeable about my particular issues. Thumbs up
Dr Tar is the kindest and most patient doctor. He really listens and cares. Rare these days. We need more doctors like this!
Best Allergy and Arthritis Doctors in the State of Florida ❗ Very caring team, Dr, RN, and staff. I've been going there for 5 years now and always feel better each visit ❗♥️
Dr. Leslie Tar goes the extra mile to make sure the health care of his patients is excellent at the end of the day... Staff is friendly and compassionate! Highly recommended!!!
My lady has been going to Dr. Tar and Karen for years. Dr. Tar and Karen are knowledgeable and take their time with you. You may have a wait. But it's worth it for the quality of care you receive.
Place has a great and friendly staff, always willing to answer any question. Dr. Tar is very thorough and respectful. Works with your schedule for appointments, and very little wait time. From my experience I would definitely recommend Dr. Tar and his staff for any Arthritis problems.

Dr. Tar has been amazing. He really cares and spends time with his patients in an effort to produce the best possible outcome. I feel confident he is deploying every possible resource to help me get better. The office staff and nurses are amazing as well. Just great people who care about the patients!
Been going there for a couple of years now. Dr. Tar is nice enough and seems to know what he is doing but the office and staff are useless. I have never been there and have my appointment be even close to the time. You sit there for hours and they could care less. If you have an appointment you need to plan2 to 3 hours wait time . They are the most unorganized doctor office I have ever seen. It's cramped, old and shabby. If he wasn't the only rheumatology doctor in Port Charlotte I sure wouldn't be going there.
The office was shabby looking. Bloodwork was taken in an old kitchen area and the room next to the kitchen was cluttered with stacks of paper and junk. Felt like a third world physician office. There was no social distancing nor was any cleaning being performed.
He is the BEST Doctor in Town.. Jim King.
Shabby, unclean clinic environment. Dr Tar is kind and thorough. Most of his staff is kind and caring. His office manager is a bit dense. No co-pay collected for four weeks of injections, and when office manager finally wakes up, she refuses service. I offer a credit card, but she demands a check which I do not carry.
GREAT. HE LISTENS AND CARES
Mediocre. I liked him immediately. However, it was impossible to reach him or see during two emergencies, one related to an overdose of medical marijuana, which he had prescribed. Also, after testing done by another rheumatologist this week, it was revealed, that I do NOT have RA, after being treated for it for two years by Dr Tar. I am extremely disappointed. As I say, he seems to be a really nice guy, but, in practice, I found him wanting.

Front office staff lies. Cash only business in 2018...
Front office is disrespectful and will not return calls. I was called for a cancelled appointment and was there for 3 hrs. Talked to the Dr. about a medication I might need a refill for. Called a couple of days later to ask for the refill and was told I needed to be seen. Also they gave me a hard time getting my records forwarded to another Dr’s Office. Several Dr’s offices that I spoke with said that they have a bad name for that. Watch out . Front office is disrespectful and will not return calls. Wonderful caring team, the doctor treats you respectfully and doesn’t just treat the single symptom or issue but will work with you to heal or manage you as whole. The only negatives from my visits are 1) very busy, I feel they are over booked. I’ve had to wait 1+ hrs every time I’ve had an appointment. 2) cash only, I use a medical savings account from my employer. Because it’s cash only I must get reimbursed, which often times take several weeks. Other than those things the doctor is awesome. I tell him every time I see him that I wish he was my Primary General Care Physician. He always asks how is everything, not just about the issue I was there for. I would absolutely 10/10 times refer anyone that needs a rheumatologist or allergy specialist to go see Dr. Tar Wonderful caring team, the doctor treats you respectfully and doesn’t just treat the single symptom or issue but will work with you to heal or manage you as whole. They have been my PA and Doc for years and would go nowhere else. They take good care of me.
The office is small and not fancy but the staff and Dr. Tar were wonderful. My husband is not well yet but we have every confidence that he will be.
Dr. Tarr takes care of their patients better than any doctor I've ever seen in 18 years that I've been going to Doctor's...
I've been going to Dr. Tar for many years. The care I receive here is top notch. He and his wife Karen are a team and they are good. Highly recommend them.
Dr. Tar is an anomaly among medical practitioners: He listens well and responds intelligently!!! He is an attorney as well as a musician and a medical doctor. His many gifts make him an excellent ally in navigating both one's insurance and one's diagnosis. His referral network is extensive as well. I highly recommend Dr. Tar and his staff to anyone looking for a patient centered practice. Dr. Tar is an anomaly among medical practitioners: He listens well and responds intelligently!!! I was referred to Dr. Tar by Dr. Ardel in Port Charlotte. I find my care exceptional and I have seen many other rheumatologists that did not impress me. When Dr. Tar talks to me, he looks at me, listens, and makes recommendations. He is not buried in a computer or answering text messages. He and his staff are great and I would refer anyone to him.
This website lists Dr. Tar as an allergy specialist. He is my rheumatologist. I know he is also an allergist. He is very easy to talk to and treats people like people rather than an inconvenience. I wouldn't go to anyone else. So, whether you see him as an allergist or an arthritis doctor, he is the man to see.
University of Pittsburgh Hospital has the largest scleroderma studies in the world. Dr. Tar trained and worked there. I went to Pittsburgh from my scleroderma at UPMC and they referred me to Dr. Tar. The have faith in him and so do I. I am glad to have Dr. Tar's expertise in caring for me.
I receive IV medication fro my rheumatoid arthritis. Great office. Lot's of fun. Karen is wonderful. Cannot say enough great things about these guys.
Waited for over three hours they haven't got a clue how to schedule an appointment people in pain should never be treated this way this is wrong
In my opinion this guy should not be practicing medicine. I agree with the patient who wrote a 1 star review. The 5 star reviews are most likely written by his staff or himself. This office does blood work using no gloves or alcohol in a dirty kitchen. They do not release your medical records. When threatened they finally release your records and it’s all lies. After this review is posted, watch how many great reviews are written!!

So discussed with this practice. I'm not the type to complain but when it come to health care others should know and be aware. Started off great I was getting my medication regularly. Then they didnt put in for them sent the wrong script to the wrong company causing me go through withdrawals never a sorry or offer samples the visit started to get shorter and the wait times longer. They took blood work every month untill I lost my insurance. They still agreed to see me without insurance. I was seen 2 times without insurance. The second time they agreed to except a parcel payment. And I agreed to pay the balance next visit. My re enrollment for my medication needed to be submitted so I contacted them and they wanted me to come in to sign so they could fax it over. While in there Karen decided to yell across the place that she would not submit the application for re enrollment untill I paid my balance on my account which was $181.00 so I told them I would be back to pay the balance. I came back that afternoon with $200 dollars and paid my bill. I told them to apply the over payment towards my next appointment that I confirmed with them to be Feb 21st 2018 at 130. I then asked them why they did not draw blood work for the past 2 visit. Their replay was it is too expensive. It has been 2 weeks now and I have not received my medication so I called to see if it was sent over only to find out that I am no longer a patient of theirs. I was told that they would look into it and call me back but I know from experience with this office they dont call back. I reached back out today to follow up and was told that I'm no longer a patient of there with no explanation why. They have me on 2 medications that I'm going to go through withdrawal from and they did not care I ask them what to do and their response was there nothing I can do for you your no longer a patient. My daughter has been a patient of Dr. Tar's for 2 years. Recently the office cancelled her appointment and said they were unable to reschedule her at that time and would call her back for another appointment because they were down to 1 provider? Anyway I informed the office that she will be running out of her medicine over the weekend and asked if they could call in enough to get her through to another appointment, whoever I talked to said they would put a request in to the back. Well the weekend came and no prescriptions were called in. I called again on Monday and informed the office she was on her last day of medicine they again informed me that they would put a request in to the back. Next day still nothing....... they called and rescheduled her appointment to Friday and again I told the girl nothing has been called in yet!! Finally on Thursday after she has been out of medicine for 3 days they called in a 7 day supply of her medications!!! Really??? We found another Doctor and will not be seeing Dr. Tar again.
