Dr. Kiem Hioe

He belittles you when u bring up concerns n when u ask if ur issue could be xyz he immediately dismisses u saying I don't think so n refuses further testing. I had to insist it was what I thought and after bringing blood tests he finally conceded I was right. He's very hard to understand with accent. I wish there was another allergist in the area. I'd certainly go elsewhere

Came in screaming about how I was psychosomatic during a skin test, saying that there was no way for any reaction through the test. I was trying to explain the dry lump I feel in my throat was the same reaction I was getting when I ate tinned sardines. He proceeded to shout at me and then explain it would be a waste of his time to do a challenge test.

My son has been seeing Dr Hioe for 2 years now thanks to my son's allergies and subsequent allergy shots. I was skeptical about his allergy so Dr Hioe reran the tests and included a special spot just for the allergen he said could cause death to show me he really is that allergic and needs the recommended care. The office staff are fantastic, especially his nurses who administer the allergy shots. You don't need an actual appointment for the shots, which makes fitting them into our schedule much easier. He has actually stopped my son in the hall because he'd notice allergy symptoms and prescribed him eye drops because his eyes were red and he knew they would be itchy. He was also able to have a look at my son when he had abnormal chicken pox when his normal provider wasn't able to get him in. He genuinely cares about his patients and making sure they get whatever medical help they need.

I have seen this Practice twice in the last year. The first one I waited 2.5 hours with my 3 year old to be seen. I pitched a fit the entire time and no one cared. It was completely normal to them to have to wait over 2 hours for the Dr to see you. Today I went for his yearly check up and I told myself, I will not wait more than 30 minutes past my sons appointment to be seen. At the 30 minute mark I asked what was taking so long, I was told and I quote "It's only been thirty minutes, appointments will take over 2 hours to be seen" .... I told them I was leaving & the receptionist rolled her eyes at me said "Okay" turned her back and walked away. They have no care for anyone schedule. It is not normal to wait 2 hours or more to be seen when you have an appointment. From now on we will make the drive to Wilmington to have proper care for our son. To expect a child to wait over 2 hours because they cannot book their appointments in a timely manner, is not our problem, it is theirs. Shame on them. I left my visit with Dr. Hioe in tears. I have never felt so belittled and ignored during a visit with a provider- either for myself or my children. I voiced my concerns to him and he talked down to me, made me feel like I wasn't doing my best for my child and I did not leave the appointment feeling like my concerns were validated or addressed. I worked in the medical field many years and I know that it means so much for the Doctor/Surgeon and Nurses to actually care about you and your health. Dr Kim and the wonderful , compassionate and professional nurse that took care if me today went over and beyond providing care for me. My sincere appreciation goes to both if you.
