My husband was experiencing acute episodes of debilitating panic attacks and depression. Secondary to this he developed involuntary muscle contractions (likely from medications prescribed by another provider). Dr. Sonnenschein was on call the weekend I was terribly concerned about some symptoms my husband was having. He was so incredibly patient, listening to me describe the prior 7 weeks of torment we had been through. He gave me a plan, he gave me reassurance, and most importantly he was responsive and caring. I believe Dr. Sonnenschein was a God-send. My husband is FINALLY making improvements after 8 weeks and I can’t thank him enough.

I don't normally write reviews like this, but I feel that it's important to prevent other parents for making the mistake I did. Worst provider we've ever had. Doesn't know anything about eating disorders, put my daughter on a med that was dangerous and hell to come off of. Very condescending and will talk to a male in the room over a female.. At one point asked my daughter why she was lying about having an eating disorder. Absolutely HORRIBLE. A horrible experience. My 15 yo daughter was the patient. He rarely spoke to her. Said it didn’t matter that she wasn’t comfortable talking to him. Said he could treat her based on my observations. When he did talk to her, he asked very aggressive questions full of pre-judgement. He always made her cry - not good therapeutic crying but because he made her feel bad or embarrassed. Extremely condescending. Rude. Accused me of lying that Walgreens’s was trying to reach him about a refill or that my daughter’s therapist had tried to call him to discuss things. Since there was no phone message on the chart, then there was no way it happened. No possible way that his office staff wasn’t relaying the messages. Really weird stuff.

Dr Sonnenschein’s “care” is one of the reasons my sister is dead. She spent all of 2018 severely depressed - it was her 5th major depressive episode. And yet, he thought there was no reason to move aggressively. The first 2 times she attempted to hurt herself this year were right after he told my parents they could go out of the country on vacation. Fortunately, they knew more than he did. The 3rd time, he didn’t demand or even suggest inpatient care. And the 4th time was the end. Great job!

Very compassionate, non judgmental. Had to wait awhile before I could get an appointment, but that's probably because everyone wants to see him because he's a good doctor. Took my lab results into consideration and referred me to an Endocrinologist for further evaluation. Highly recommended by other physicians I have seen.

THE WORST IN TOWN! I was all out of my medicene and called him 3 times to try and get it filled. It took him 3 business days to respond to a simple request. Doesn't care about his patients, he has no clue what my name is even though he's been seeing me for 2 ye ars. Basically his best skill is he has a good writing arm for prescriptions if you get my drift. What a quack. THE WORST IN TOWN! Dr. Sonnenschein is not the best, but not the worst. Very empirical and lacking in on his social skills... an "old school" type of psychiatrist. He's great if you can properly communicate what you need and want. I'm just not able to do that properly, and thus treats me like i know nothing... which is understandable. But he will work with you on getting you on the right combination and dosage of medications properly ( instead of taking you on and off medication on the fly). If you are able to communicate properly and/or can tolerate someone who is very empirical and assumes you know nothing, tten her will be a good choice. I personally didn't like him at first, but now that i am on the right combination of medication and at the right dosage, i can tolerate what little interaction i have with him. I am so grateful that I found this office. Dr. Sonnenschein always takes the time to talk me through any changes in my care or medications, answers any questions I have, and is very thorough with his explanations. I've noticed that he does tend to run behind, which would happen with thoroughness, so I always schedule my appointments first thing in the morning. I am so grateful that I found this office. Dr. Sonnenschein is very thorough during each appointment, I never feel rushed. He is very knowledgeable about medication and takes time to explain how it works within your body. He genuinely seems concerned about finding the right medication that will work for you

Dr. Sonnenschein has been my son's provider for around 14 years. My son is autistic. Dr. Sonnenschein is very knowledgeable about what medications work for those on the autism spectrum. Between working with both this doctor and some very good Behaviorist, my son is doing well. Dr. Sonnenschein is very empathetic and respectful of patients and their families. KPG does not take Medicaid, so we do pay out of pocket.

He takes extra time when we need it and he does a great job of listening and explaining in detail when medication changes are necessary.
