I had a really large herniation in my back, which causes nerve pain. I was literally unable to walk for more than minutes at a time, and was bedridden for about a month straight. Dr. Rieger saw me days after I requested an appointment, and ended up performing surgery on me only 1-2 weeks after this initial visit. It’s been 6 weeks today, and my life has changed. I can walk again, for long distances, sit in chairs again, lay comfortably on my bed again, and live an extraordinary life. I was skeptical, scared and in disbelief this surgery would help. But I put my trust in Dr. Rieger and he literally fixed my life. He is amazing at what he does and has amazing accolades to back all the lives he has changed.

Dr. Rieger was into trying all other solutions before surgery. I had buttocks pain and pain (numbness) in my legs which radiated down my legs into my feet making it hard to walk after a short distance or stand for a short time. After X-ray and Cat-scan I was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis at L5-S1 and major stenosis at L3-L4-L5. The first doctor wanted to operate and do a fusion and Lumbar Laminectomy (L4 to S1). Dr. Rieger was willing to try other treatments and see where that would lead. In the end when I could no longer walk more than two blocks without having to sit down it was time for surgery. After a few talks with Dr. Rieger we came to the conclusion that a fusion while recommend would be the more invasive option. Instead, I request just the Laminectomy of L4 and near Laminectomy of L3 and L5. So how did this work out, it's been about six months now and when people ask if I am 100 percent now, I say, NO I'm 1000 percent now. A few other pains that I had are also gone.

Dr Rieger's knowledge and professionalism was apparent from my first visit. Personable and understanding of my condition, Dr Rieger took time to explain and demonstrate what my problem was and suggested path to alleviate my extreme pain and loss of function. I am fully grateful for following his advice. Due to his skill, the spine surgery was a success with the nerve pain being eliminated and with me being given the opportunity to regain my ability to function pain free. With Dr Rieger at the head of the pack, everyone in his office and at Overlook Hospital were compassionate, caring, attentive, and top-notch medical personnel. Dr Rieger is truly a gifted surgeon and a great guy. If you have issues with your spine, your best bet is to see Dr Rieger. It's the smartest move you could make.

First of all, I am not the kind of person that writes reviews but, in this case, I is worth every second of my time. On February 2021 I fell off a deck and landed on my neck, I heard a crack but felt fine. A few days later I woke up to a bad pain in the neck area where I fell. The next morning, I went to my primary doctor with the pain even worst. I explained what happened and he felt it was a pinched nerve and gave me some medication for it. Over the next few days, the pain got so bad I could not move my neck and was taking every over-the-counter pain killer as possible. With that I went to an orthopedic doctor; he took some x rays and felt it was arthritis and gave me some medications for it. I am self employed so narcotics was out of the questions but at this point the pain was so bad I could not function. I'm a healthy 32 year old man that suddenly became unable to walk due to a sever herniation. Dr. Rieger saw the urgency, moved quickly so I didn't have permanent nerve damage, and performed surgery within 7 days of seeing me. I was able to walk out of the Surgery Center that day and am 100% healed. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Rieger and his entire staff. Don't hesitate to make an appointment. The Short Hills Surgery Center that he is affiliated with was immaculate and so hospitable. Such an extraordinary experience.

From the very first visit with Dr. Rieger I was pleased. He was down to earth and articulate while explaining the surgery he would conduct on me (Laminectomy). His skill and expertise were evidenced by the positive results that I experienced post surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Rieger.

Dr. Rieger did a laminectomy and fusion of L3 to L5 on me at the end of December. Just had my final follow up with him today and I am at about 70% improvement. I’m able to walk over a mile with no pain, I am able to lift and carry, and a lot of the nerve issues I was suffering from have abated entirely or have lessened considerably. He’s thorough, knowledgeable, talented and efficient. Office staff is nice, and his colleague Dr. Lipp with whom I was working with to try to mitigate the pain non-surgically is wonderful. I’m very pleased with the outcome, and he assured me at my visit today that I am on track for continued improvement. I’ve tracked exactly where he said I would, and he manage my expectations as far as outcome very well before going in. Totally recommend this doctor for a spinal surgery.

Dishonest, lazy physician who sneaks in codes with higher payouts, committing insurance fraud as a matter of course. My husband was seen for no more than a few minutes, and no history was taken or exam done. No scripts written for PT. He was told to come back in a week if his back pain hadn't improved. This is a clear 99201 office visit code that should warrant the lowest charge for a visit (though the visit didn't even meet these basic requirements), and yet he was charged for a mid-level visit, 99203, which should have required a full history, comprehensive exam, coordination with other physicians, etc. Doctor/office refused to change code. Insurance co lets them get away with it, so don't expect them to protect you from overcharging, especially if you have a high-deductible plan (because you're on the hook for the charges before your deductible kicks in--your insurance company just approves them). You MUST find an honest physician to avoid being ripped off and always, always check your bills. And, it goes without saying, avoid this practice at all costs.

Dr. Rieger and his staff are top notch. From the person who answers the phone to the doctor, this staff is incredible. In addition to being professional, the members on this staff are genuinely nice. L4-L5 Laminectomy. 7 weeks post surgery, walking 3 miles a day and have not felt this good in years. Dr. Rieger will try every conservative option before scheduling any surgery. Doctor Rieger is the best! His office staff is so helpful and sweet, his assistant Alaina (not sure I’m spelling it correctly) is amazing! From the very beginning, Doctor Rieger was very informative, and supportive. He made sure I knew of all my options, and was great at explaining exactly what was going to happen. He has amazing bedside manner, and was extremely realistic and trustworthy. I felt confident and safe going into back surgery with him, and his team!

The staff was great. However, my interactions with Rieger was less than professional. While I was making a follow up visit after my first visit, I saw and heard him making fun of my muscle atrophy on my right side. He also said foraminotomies were ‘cute’ procedures. If you want run of the mill procedures I’m sure he’s great...but he’s not elite.

Dr Rieger is fantastic. From making me and my wife feel comfortable and relaxed leading into my surgery to reassuring us once completed, he made what could have been a stressful period better. He listened to our questions and took the time to answer them and made sure we understood.

I would recommend Dr. Rieger to anyone. I would not let another surgeon near my spine, only him! His bedside manner is wonderful. I was extremely nervous about my cervical spinal surgery, but Dr. Rieger put me at ease right away. He is funny, and warm but most of all knows what he is doing. My surgery went exactly as he described it would, and I had an easy recovery. I was back to work in three weeks, he said I set a new record! The office was a pleasure to deal with, I was well cared for.

Dad and I both had synovial cysts pressing on sciatic nerve. We suffered a long time elsewhere then met Dr. Rieger. I first took a conservative course with Dr. Lipp (injections) and I highly recommend Dr. Lipp for his wonderful, caring approach and unrelenting efforts to improve my quality of life. Both dad and I were ultimately operated on by Dr. Rieger, who I cannot thank enough. He is a highly skilled surgeon and a real world doctor, with great patience, who gave both of us our lives back.

Did not solve my pain issues. Would not bother sending me in for additional scans despite my asking for months to do so. Slight God like arrogance. He is a very Nice guy, listens to you but does not Always hear what you are saying. Frustrating. Going for a second opinion in New York City to end this pain I pray.

Dr. Rieger is a lifesaver. He performed a flawless laminectomy and has helped make me pain free. I am grateful for both his expertise and friendly bedside manner. He is consistently on NJ’s top docs list with good reason. Yes, you will wait but it is worth it for a top ranking surgeon.

Was referred to Dr. Rieger by my Orthopedist for chronic lower back pain. Had MRI prior to the visit. Waited over 1 month for appt. Filled out all forms on line ... had to fill out same forms in office. (?) Then Waited over 1 hour to see the doctor. Proceeded to tell me i didn't need to see him because he is a surgeon and I didn't need surgery. Did not go over scans or rad report with me, no examination. "Normal back for a 58 year old". Said to go for PT and exercise. $50 co-pay wasted.

Dr. Rieger, the staff is courteous and always makes me feel welcomed, Dr. Rieger is the consummate professional. Dr Rieger listens to me regarding my surgery procedure I had done on 2/2/2016, I would highly recommend Dr. Reiger to anyone. My office visits feel more like time with a friend who is seriously concerned about my well being.

I re-injured L5/S1 disc in July 2016 and met with Dr. Rieger as I had seen his colleague Dr. Dorsky for the original injury in 1996. Dr. Rieger clearly communicated the pros-and-cons of surgery and suggested that I first attempt conservative treatment. After a couple months of unsuccessful conservative treatment I opted to have Dr. Rieger perform a discectomy and, three weeks post surgery, I could not be more satisfied with Dr. Rieger and the surgical results. I highly recommend Dr. Rieger.

I saw Dr. Reiger for a second opinion, we explained to him that I was seeing him for just that reason. Dr. Reiger was professional and compassionate and showed concern for my situation and explained a different procedure that would be better for me because of the problems I'm experiencing. His staff was great also, I felt very comfortable with everyone there compared to the first Dr I went to. The first Dr.'s office made me feel like I was just there so he could get the money.

I had a burst compression in L4 & 2 rods & 6 screws were put in my back from a surgeon in FL. I saw Dr. Rieger in NJ & he was immediately understanding, compassionate & genuine. He truly wanted the best for me which was very comforting being only 22 years old! He was always very efficient yet informative. I always knew what was going on & how the procedure would be done. Dr. Rieger will do EVERYTHING he can to make sure all goes as planned, you are at ease & comfortable & recovery goes well! :)

I have degenerative disc disease and had gone to Dr. Rieger for help. He is kind, caring & very informative, explaining every process. I had surgery & feel it was the best thing I ever did, Dr. Rieger is an excellent surgeon. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need.

I’d like to thank and acknowledge Dr. Rieger and the supporting staff for giving me back my life. I suffered from lower back pain for a long time. I had surgery May 5th 2016 without the surgery I would not have been able to walk my daughter down the aisle at her wedding May 28th. Dr. Rieger explained the procedure and prepared me for the post-operative recovery. It’s now been a few months and I have no regrets. Again thank you for all you have done for me.

Dr Reiger explained the cause of my stenosis and spondylisis And exactly what he would do to fix it .it was his clear and technical information and confidence which made me go ahead with the surgery .7 weeks post surgery I am pain free can stand. Up straight and walk 3/4 mile . Thank you Dr Reiger I never it possible at 68 years old.Would recommend Dr Reiger to anyone

Dr Rieger listened to my background and decided not to offer help. He did not even touch my problem area in my neck, moved quickly to suggest I see a pain management Doctor in the same office. Truly a disappointing waste of time and money. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Rieger was compassionate and caring. He took the time to explain the problem with my back, show me what he planned to do to correct the problem, and talked plainly about the recovery period and results. Dr Rieger acted in an amazing and responsive manner during my recent emergency surgery. I was in a very serious accident while on vacation and it was due to his persistence and professionalism that we were able to be airlifted back to the US for my surgery which was life threatening. I am grateful and blessed to have Dr Rieger as my surgeon and would recommend him to anyone considering treatment. He is not only a professional but a wonderful and compassionate human being.
