Dr. Essig is wonderful. He gave me choices and explained in full of each choice. I am in full appreciation of his professionalism....Thank you Dr. Essig. I am forever grateful.
Dr Essig more than met my expectations. Professional, knowledgeable.personable. Office staff efficient and every appointment has been timely.
This 5 ???? review is based on only scheduling the appointment! Haven't even seen the doctor yet, but already looking forward to it. Kristin scheduled the appointments, offered all information needed, and answered all of my questions. Informative and sweet! You don't see too much of that anymore. Thank you! Kudos to you Kristin!

Excellent
Even though there was a bit of a wait time my visit was nice. The wait was not anyone’s fault and sometimes happens due to unforeseen circumstances.
He was very professional and took very good care in both in the OR for surgery and in his office for my stent removal 2 weeks later. Thank you Dr for allowing me to be back to normal.

Repeatedly during my one and only 15 minute visit, Dr. Essig would ask me a question, and then interupt me to say he didn't want to hear about that. He came across as abrupt, rude and aloof. He may be a very competent urologist, but I hope to not have to go back to him because of his personal interaction style.
The visit was a Telehealth arrangement. The number of text messages and emails requiring pre-registration was redundant and confusing. The only reason for the visit was to go over lab results from a simple urine test, which probably could have been handled by a nurse and leave the doc more time to tend to other patients. Otherwise, the experience was fine. The visit was a Telehealth arrangement. The number of text messages and emails requiring pre-registration was redundant and confusing. That doctor is very nice
Dr. Essig and his staff were very efficient and good
There are a lot of helpful nice people here . The Doctor is reassuring and confident that he can help. No reason to wait.
Dr. Essig and his nurses were able to quickly deal with my post-surgery urinary problem. His staff was all professional and friendly.
This appointment was a telehealth appointment at 1130, at 1125 I called the office because I didn't have any link to get into the meeting. I was told that the doctor would call me, but that he was a little behind. I waited an hour, at 1230 I called back, and had to leave a message, 2 minutes after I left the message I got a text telling me the doctor was ready. I logged into and waited another hour. So now I'm 2 hours after my scheduled appointment and can finally talk to Dr Essig. As we talked he kept interrupting me to dictate to his computer, so I would have to stop talking and start over, this happened about 4 times. Clearly he is busy with what seems to me to be too many patients for any of them, or at least me to get what I would consider reasonable level of care and concern for my medical condition. No apologies for being 2 hours late to the appointment - If I was that late I'd be rescheduled and maybe even charged a fee, I have no doubt I'll be charged for this office visit despite being so late and providing nothing of substance for me. He made me feel like I was just another billable hour. I have no doubt Dr Essig is a good urologist, however his patient levels seem to be resulting in lack of good patient care. A patient trust and comfort is part of the experience, which I didn't get and would assume others are in the same situation. I left the phone conversation frustrated and disappointed. This situation has made me end any future visits with Dr. Essig despite having seen him for most of the last decade. There is no way to fix this for me, other than not billing me for that awful office visit, however I hope that whoever is reading this takes a look at the patient load and makes changes to help others get a much better and experience that each patient deserves. Love the people
Great
Exceptional Physician and staff!
Dr was on phone video on time and took time to talk to me and ask questions about my problem and is going to have me come in and help me with it
Dr. Essig is one of the best. Very rare to find a doctor who is humble, extremely knowledgeable with great bedside manner. I received the very best care by a caring physician, and I was treated with utmost respect. Dr. Essig is a 10 out of 10 for me.
The telehealth visit started late and I was getting ready to leave for another appointment. Once we got started, it went well. The doctor asked questions about my condition and we agreed on a course of action.

Very good
A procedure was preformed doctor and staff excellent.
He does not care about his patients at all. The office is incompetent and extremely rude. All Dr. Essig cares about is dollar signs.
I was schedule to have a virtual appointment 30 days out was the best if I would do virtual, longer if I wanted to see him. After 2 1/2 hours of waiting, I was told he needed to reschedule. Still waiting on that re-schedule....not really, You can't call the office and talk to someone. I'm guessing my reschedule would be another 30 days if they every called me back. My appointment was on time; the staff and nurses are friendly and helpful; Dr. Essig is efficient and answered my questions.
GREAT JOB BY DOCTOR AND STAFF EDWARD RIVERS
Complete waste of time. I had 4 appointments total with Dr Essig. Well. One time I had to drive all the way to the office just to get a bladder scan to go over it the following week. Any time I needed urine checked or anything they forced me to go to the ER. Also, when I did see Dr Essig, it was over an hour after my appointment was started because the office schedules patients when Dr Essig comes in whenever he sees fit that day. My appointment was at 9 AM yet I wasn't seen until 9:45-10. All he does is talk to himself into a talk to text microphone. Barely dorks to you. But all my care and medication came from only the hospital. Once my insurance activated I got a second opinion at USF. In one appointment I got my urine checked, a bladder scan, they scheduled me for ultrasound themselves that day instead of making me find someone myself. And, my new Dr got me into physical therapy. Something I DESPERATELY need now. I assure you Essig would not have done that.
Michele. A very enthusiastic, polite, attractive and knowledgeable gal. She is tremendous and my hat is off to her. John Ribovich

The appointment went really well. I didn't wait too long to see the doctor. The doctor was very nice and he explained everything very clearly, and he verified that I understood everything. Great talking to the doctor
Dr. Essig is the most unprofessional doctor I’ve ever encountered. Went in for a simple procedure and waited over one hour in waiting room, and 90 minutes in the exam room. When he finally arrived he had a major attitude and was questioning if I really had insurance which the front desk had already verified. Then he asked if we could pay in cash. I’m almost certain he didn’t trust me as I’m a person of color and this guy is clearly insensitive and out of touch. Stay far away from this monster. All the staff were very nice and polite and I would recommend anyone to go here.I had no problems at all.
I am very pleased and satisfied with the health care and services I received from the BayCare Medical Group.
If this is in regards to my visit with Dr. Kenneth Essig, I am well pleased at being under his care. He is always aware of my situation, listens to my discussions, and provides relevant responses. I believe he shows respect for me and concern for my wellbeing.

The Doctor explain my situation in detail which made me feel more confident in future visits
Dr. Eddie was excellent. He did everything I expect and not more. If I ever need a kidney doctor again I will definitely use him. And this was all on zoom (text)
This doctor is a truly UNPROFESSIONAL disgusting human being could CARELESS about his patients adout DOING his job i have File a complaint with the medical board And my insurance company Do yourself a favor Stay away from this doctor He has no empathy whatsoever for people in pain
How they can improve is to begin with the office personnel needs to be on the same page as the Doctor and second the office personnel need to show more empathy to patients that show them that they are struggling with their condition.

Dr. Essig was very informative and is a great listener. I'm very glad I'm now a patient.
long wait times in office.... Left my stent in for four months. He had actually forgotten it was there.. had to complain to have it removed... Now I suffer from a stricture in that kidney.... Do not recommend

I thought Dr Essig was an excellent urologist. However, His support staff leaves something to be desired. They don't return phone calls and don't communicate very well.

My daughter had appointment due to severe pain similar to a UTI. This provider, after spending about 5 minutes with her, told her She drank too much water. Drinking water was how they did it back in the day. We left there, got an appt with a nephrologist at Gessler Clinic who immediately sent her to a Lakeland Oncology Urologist where She was diagnosed with intercistal cystitis and chronic pelvic pain. This doctor spent all of 2 minutes with me. He shoved the scope up my ureter without so much as a this is going to hurt, just bear with me a minute. He had a blatant disregard for giving information, telling me what was going to happen (didn't happen). I was also previously told I wouldn't have to worry about the payment because of the complications this doctor had not warned me of before I agreed to have the ureter stent put in. His office demanded payment after I was assured that it would not come from MY pocket. The whole experience from start to finish was appalling and I will NEVER see this doctor!! Firstly, Ive been hung up on numerous times when contacting your office. Iam often on hold and rarely reach anyone or get a return call after leaving vm. With regard to my treatment, ive never actually had a diagnosis... ive given rx and pushed out 30 days without any explanation or plan to help me get better. ive had to do my own research and consult other mobile care services for rx and explainations as to my symptoms. Ive been in groin pain for months and no pain meds were issued. very little compassion and honestly it seemed dr didn’t really care to help me resolve my issue.. i had to probe and ask questions with little feedback regarding my issue as if i was the professional . i get bill’s timely though. ive talked to a few people at nurse desk and appointment and they are rude and short. this experience has been a nightmare. Iam a combat veteran and iam well connected in polk county.. its sad ive been treated this way when all i needed was help. I have insurance, been kind and patient and have paid for my treatment... obviously this isn’t enough to receive decent care. ill be leaving this facility as soon as i can Firstly, Ive been hung up on numerous times when contacting your office. He did not use the any anesthesia, such as lidocaine prior to inserting the cystoscope for a cystoscopy procedure. It felt like hot pepper was coating the tube. I've had this procedure twice before and an anesthetic was used both times. I've had bilateral knee replacement and this was far more painful. For the remaining week, every void again caused extreme burning. And with BPH, I need to void probably 10 or more times a day. When I brought this up his comment was "well it takes 45 minutes to take effect" so he skips it. So patient comfort comes second to this doctors valuable time. And it didn't take 45 minutes with my prior procedures. I was referred to this Dr. for a UroLift procedure by the VA but he wanted to do a green lite laser instead. Bait and switch. He said he had only done about 25 UroLifts. I was confused by this and uncertain if this was the right Dr for my BPH procedure. I did considerable research and with so much uncertainty about this Dr. I wasn't able to commit to either procedure. I asked him if others had this difficulty and he said yes. When I finally did commit in my mind I called the office, left a message (no one ever answers the phone there) stating that I wished to be put on the schedule for a UroLift. I didn't hear back so after a week or so, so I left another message. Again no reply. A third call again netted no reply. The time limit for my VA Community Care option was about to expire so I called my VA Community Care Coordinator with my issue. He had a similar poor reply after several calls requesting my records. After a few weeks the records finally were sent. I am now pursuing a different Dr in Lakeland who is also a certified UroLift provider. I read in the portal his complaint that he spent 20 minutes on the phone with me answering my concerns. I think it was more like 10 minutes but he has such an elevated opinion of himself that I'm sure any unbillable time spent would seems wasteful. I had a 9am appt was told he hadn't arrived yet. They called me to the back and the doctor didn't stroll in until 10:05! Didn't look at me once! Was talking into a remote transcriber instead of to me. I had to point out what I had been dealing with bc he barely asked any questions... I advised that I was nervous about my potential condition and he kinda blew it off without trying to explain or ease my concern at all. Unless I was supposed to feel better and have a better understanding bc hes been in practice for 20 yrs. Still, the man never even bothered to make eye contact. He spoke to his transcriber something about running tests that he never explained the purpose of, said he was going to send his nurse in and walked out. I didn't even wait for the nurse to come in, I just left. I felt like I wasted my time and now have to find another doctor. He may as well have been a robot. Horrible experience. Doctor was rude with me and also one of the female staff. They made me feel uncomfortable they left me in the room by myself and never told me that my visit was over. ????
I had a 9AM apt with Dr. Essig. When I checked in around 8:55AM, the front receptionist let me know that the dr had not arrived as of yet. I was called back to the examination room about 9AM and told again that the dr had not arrived yet. I waited for 1.5 hours when the dr was finally able to hold my apt. While I waited, I never once was informed by a nurse or staff that the dr was still running late, I was never checked on, I was never asked if I could wait or if I needed to reschedule the apt. After waiting an hour for the dr, I had to look out the door and ask a nurse when I should expect the dr to arrive. It was only then that I was told that he was coming from the hospital. I understand that these things happen, Dr. Essig is a doctor and things can come up. What bothered me was that I never had any interaction from the staff to keep me informed so I could make the best decision with my time. Once Dr. Essig did come to the room, he asked why I was sent to see him since I did not have any kidney stones. I was sent to see them because he is a urologist-- which is more than just kidney stones. However, he said that he removes kidney stones, and should I have any, he would remove them. I explained to him that my kidneys caused me pain periodically and the urine test that my doctor ordered showed some significantly high and some low numbers. He said he was not concerned about the numbers. He once again said that he treats kidney stone issues, and since I had no kidney stones, there was nothing that he could do, even if there was pain. He told me to get ultrasounds when I had pain to determine if I had a stone. So, technically, Dr. Essig is a urologist, but he needs to have a disclaimer that states: Only for Kidney Stones, no other issues. I was dismayed and frustrated that my morning was spent waiting for a dr to arrive, spending 10 minutes with the dr to learn that he wasn't going to do anything because I didn't have kidney stones, and paying $113 for the wasted apt. I am a cash patient so that $113 was not billed to insurance but to me. I will not be recommending Dr. Essig's practice to anyone. I had a 9AM apt with Dr. Essig.
