I got a couple of pairs of prescription glasses there a few years ago and after a year the coating on the lenses started to come off from the edges. I showed it to them and they refused to replace the lenses. The coating has now degraded about an eighth of an inch in from the edges. I’ll never go to this place again.

Great place, just the receptionist duties are Severely lacking. Hardly ever answers phone when I call, and often get hung up on whether it be accident or not. Cute technicians.. that's good... Lol but anyways that's about it

Used the online option to make an appt. The day of the appt, I was called at 12 (the appt was for 2:30) to be told the appt wasn’t available, because they didn’t see it and had already booked someone else in that place. My two children and I have been loyal patients of Total Eye Care for years. In May we switched insurance companies from Cigna to BCBS, when I called to make our appointments I let the woman know and provided our new BCBS information. When we arrived last week I provided the BCBS insurance card. During the exam the Dr mentioned that it didn’t show I had vision insurance coverage for the exam and wanted to check coverage for the lenses and contacts to see what I would be able to do that day, i assured him that I do have vision insurance and even texted my husband to get a screenshot of the vision coverage for the office staff which was VBA. I went out to the front and provided the screen shots to the ladies at the front desk who then provided it to their “insurance guy” - and I waited for my Childrens appointments to end. At the end of the appointments I was charged $426.00 and told that they couldn’t confirm that I had any vision insurance, I let the woman know I had provided it several times and was still waiting on a response from “the insurance guy” on what my copay would be. I was asked for payment and I made the payment, and was assured that it would be sorted out and things would be “made right” when they confirmed the insurance I had provided. Well- come to find out, I absolutely have vision insurance, and it is the insurance that I provided them at the front desk, before my appointments. Insurance coverage for the complete visit, lenses, frames and a $110.00 cost for contacts. What they did NOT tell me, is that they are NOT in network. They do NOT accept VBA vision insurance!!! So they billed me as out of network and what would have cost me $120.00 had now cost me $426.00. And of course they take zero responsibility whatsoever for not advising me before hand that they were out of network. A lot of “I don’t know” why I was never advised this, and how they can’t do anything now. The doctor was great. As I said we have been loyal patients for years, however the office staff, has now put my family in a terrible position financially because they failed to be decent people and advise us beforehand that services would all be out of pocket and we would be better off to find a doctor in network. Called to make an appointment and left a message. Got called back quickly. Providing information as a new patient was easy and the receptionist was very kind and friendly! Scheduling was easy and everything has been great!

Awful sums it up in a nutshell The only communication I get from this place is spam about sales and trunk shows. I have literally been calling at all times of the day for weeks now just to order a couple more pairs of contacts before my next exam and I have not once ever been able to get a human on the line. Straight to voicemail every single time. Of all the times I've called and left voicemails I got one call back on one the phone numbers I left and missed the call. So now I'm 2 weeks out from giving birth with no copy of script to go elsewhere and no clue if I'll have contacts or not. I would never recommend these people to anyone. Being in senior management of operations of a company that prides itself on its customer service I can attest - this is not good business practice. I have been waiting for over a month for a trial pair of lenses. I have called (message left), submitted a request for info via their website, and Facebook messaged the office. I have not received a call back or email. This is Monday, and on Friday I was told via messenger that a contact technician would be contacting me today. It's 9:31PM so that obviously isn't happening. I have been a patient of Dr. Trusty's for over 20 years. No more. I'm getting my prescription from them this week and taking my business elsewhere. While I liked Dr. Shinpaugh well enough in person, when I asked for a printout of my prescription, I ended up getting only part of the information. When I called the office to get it, I had to leave a message... which was never returned. A couple of weeks down the road, I called back myself to try and get it straightened out. I could only get the answer that "it was written how it should be" and that the only people who could give pupillary distance were the people selling the glasses (which is patently untrue since I got the same info from my last eye doctor). While the direct experience with the doctor was good, ultimately I feel the business is VERY interested in selling glasses and sort of puts up with the actual eye care in the meantime. I'm left in the awkward position of waiting a year until I can get another insurance-covered eye exam or trying to storm the castle in person to try and get basic information out of the office staff, and that's simply not a position I should have to be in. I only gave 2 stars as Dr. Trusty is great. I got a text to call and schedule my yearly eye exam so I called and someone picked up the phone and hung up. I called right back and of course it rang until voicemail picked up. This was on a Tuesday. I left a message with my name and letting them know I just needed to schedule an appointment for a routine eye exam. Here it is Thursday and no call back still. Their voicemail states they’ll get back to you in 1 business day. Well I called Ragsdale Vision Center today (Thursday) and they got me in same day. I’ve been going to Dr. Trusty for awhile, but sadly due to his staff not returning voicemails and picking up and hanging up on customers they just lost myself and my family and friends who I all referred there. Takes most insurances that unfortunately to many practices these days refuse to accept because they don't want to deal with the Government programs. Total Eye care actually cares about working with new potential patients in as soon as possible. Dr Trusty has been arguably the best Optometrist in North Texas. Donates Children in need with glasses and a beautiful office with actually good amenities including Netflix and comfortable seating. Several Years as the TWU and UNT Athletics Optometrist keeping our great city of Denton with great Doctors like Dr Coleman with top tier New Age technology that many other offices just don't have yet. Very thorough eye exam with a perfect prescription; wide range of glasses to choose from, house lab, AND they carry Silhouette brand lightweight frames which I adore. I found the staff and Dr Trusty to be genuinely friendly...took time to listen to me...what’s not to like?!?! 2 yrs now-they are ok- nothing to write home about- I get tired of messing with them sometimes- keep having to go back and change contact brands and get my glasses adjusted- no Saturday hours- open till 7- 2 days a week so we rush in- most of staff is nice- lady was really rude to me over the phone once for no reason - eh-

Dr. Coleman and his staff are amazing. I was determined to wear contacts but have an odd prescription. Dr. Coleman didn't stop until I was fitted with the perfect set of contacts. I've never had a more wonderful experience in an eye doctor's office. I highly recommend Total Eyecare!!

We have been seeing Dr. Trusty now for years. This office has watched us grow from a family of 5 to 6 and he has seen most of my children since they were 3 years old. 3 of us currently where glasses.We can all go in the same day and be seen. Walking in with 4 kids tends to throw some offices off. Not this one. 2 of my kiddos have special needs, this doesn't throw anyone off either. One of them having a speech issue, Dr. Trusty was great at figuring out how to communicate with her to know what she was seeing. We have been seeing Dr. Trusty now for years. Great health care provider! Dr. Trusty cares about you and your well-being. I would recommend him to anyone who needs anything from a regular eye check-up to someone who is having unusual vision problems. I cannot speak well enough about this man and all of the assistants who work in his office!

This is my second year visiting this Doctor of Optometry. One thing I like about smaller clinics is the one-on-one personal experience you get with your Doctor. That is not something you will get at this office, you will be handed off from one technician to another in assembly line format till you see a doctor, not guaranteed you will see the same doctor twice either. I have come to the realization that the doctors only hire "eye candy" all of the ladies working in this store are younger co-eds that meet some stringent requirement. I would not say they are inept but it seems the management pushes for speed rather than perfection. I have visited the office almost six times in the past two years and one thing for sure is that my wallet can not continue supporting this business. I have complete a cost check of optometrists in my area and this office runs a good 50% higher in price than all the others I have checked with, the only reason I went to them to begin with was my doctor moved to a different area and was no longer covered under my county vision insurance. I have now been waiting nearly a month since my optometry visit to have a trial set of contacts provided and I keep getting the answer that they have not arrived yet. Really? Why do you not keep sizes in stock for trials and emergencies? The one thing I do like about this location is that the technicians and doctors have been friendly to me, they have setup appointments when I experienced an eye injury pretty fast, and I do enjoy the fact they use modern equipment and electronic records. Dr. Trusty is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, extensive eye wear selections and a friendly interacting staff. This gives patients the impression of a happy place and a good working environment. Although many patients love going here, his management style is completely selfish as is the management below him. The flow of employees here cannot be compared to any other working place, especially a place with such "prestige". Sweet talk and community service projects give the impression of a caring heart, but it isn't so behind closed doors. Poorly trained staff with destructive managers who know how to put on a smile is exactly what you have here. Good place to go, terrible place to work. Great place, great equipment, fake people.
