Worst office and Dr experience of my life horribly incompetent from the office staff to the back. If you have an appointment with this Dr plan on wasting at least 4hrs waiting for him to give you bad info.

My sons doctor sent a referral here, so I called this morning to schedule an appointment. The doc himself is a great one, i'm sure, but unfortunately the receptionist is the rudest person I believe i have ever spoke to from Beaumont. I am reaching back out to my child's referring doctor to see if she can send me to a place that actually cares and their patients. Its a shame that she is making this type of name for herself on here, yet still employed there. My sons doctor sent a referral here, so I called this morning to schedule an appointment. I was blessed enough to have Dr Z, do my back surgery in 2011. I was back to work in 3 weeks..I recently asked to the Dr again over a new issue due to an extreme fall as an Iron worker. Dr Z, was extremely professional. I do agree that whoever he has in the office now is extremely rude..... However. Dr Z, wld be the surgeon that I would take my own children to see if needed..... Dr. Zakalik is awesome. He did the surgery for a subdural hematoma I got when I got hit by a van Mar of 1994. I did more research about this procedure and I am extremely blessed to be here in the condition I am. I read that alot of people don't live 6yrs after having this operation. I am now 40 n you can barely tell where Dr. Zakalik cut my head open. I have tried to reach out to him but like the rest of the reviews office staff is rude . Dr. Zakalik implanted a subdural shunt in my then-6 month old in February 1987. This was after we'd been seeing a pediatric neurosurgeon at a well-respected Chicago hospital who for 3 months just kept sending us for a new CT every week. We only had the great fortune to get connected to Dr. Zakalik because a job change necessitated that we relocate to Detroit, and the Children's Hospital referred us. We saw Dr. Zakalik within a couple of days, and surgery was the following week. He said he couldn't understand why the first neurosurgeon had delayed. Dr. Zakalik was very personable, easy to talk to, and showed great care for our son and us all along the way. Fortunately, the shunt resolved our son's medical condition within 12 months, and Dr. Zakalik was able to remove the shunt. There have been no subsequent issues either. I have thought of Dr. Zakalik many times in the now 32 years since we last saw him and am deeply grateful to him, as well as to Dr. Alexa Canady, who assisted him. I see several reviewers have commented about rude staff. His staff in the 80's was great, so it's a shame to hear the current folks may not be very helpful, but don't let that deter you from choosing Dr. Zakalik. He is an amazing and caring surgeon, and that is much more important when choosing a doctor who is going to be doing such delicate work. First off, I want to say that the office staff were not disrespectful to me. As long as you show them respect, then you will be fine. Even if you do feel they are disrespectful, ignore it and focus on seeing the physician. DO NOT let these reviews stop you from seeing him. Now for Dr Zakalik, I cannot describe how much he changed my life. I started having health issues at 18 years that lasted for 4 years and he performed a temporal lobe lobectomy surgery and my seizures stopped. He is absolutely amazing and is one of the greatest gifts I have received from God. He is an extremely experienced surgeon and knows exactly what he is doing. On top of all this, he shows compassion to his patients which helps so much in our struggles. IGNORE EVERY SINGLE NEGATIVE COMMENT ON THESE REVIEWS BECAUSE HE WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! Good doctor. Horribly rude staff. I would go elsewhere if your insurance allows that. There is only 1 person in the office and she is so rude and difficult to deal with to the point of hanging up on you and cussing.

The main office assistant lady is so awful that she should be fired. All other reviews mention how terrible she is but the only way to fix it is to either tell Dr Zakalik directly about her OR file a complaint with your insurance company. This gets the doctors attention as they risk losing insurers from complaints like this. Otherwise your only choice is to accept extreme incompetence, rudeness, and unprofessionalism. Changing doctors is not an option for many people like myself unfortunately so we are stuck going to the best doctor with the worst office staff. Dr. Zakalik is a wonderful and gifted physician so I don’t know how he ended up with the most horrible and rude office staff (the receptionist that answers the phone).. we had a billing issue because his staff billed the incorrect insurance resulting in us receiving the bill in error.. not only did she have an attitude but she yelled at me, said oh well about the mistake and then said she would just leave me on hold because she is busy. She’s unprofessional and extremely rude and difficult to deal with. I’m sure Dr. Zakalik has lost a lot of patients because of her. I know I wouldn’t return to the office because of her and would definitely not refer anyone to that office. Great Doctor, great care. His receptionist is horrible. She berated me on the phone when I told her I have Medicare coverage. She did not have that information and told me that she has to work three times harder and said in a sarcastic voice "UNBELIEVEABLE". She did change her tone when I pushed back. Please make a change, I can't recommend Dr. Zakalik as long as Carmen works there.

Awesome Doctor. His receptionist is by far the rudest person you will encounter. I filed a complaint through Beaumont because of her. After seeing others experiences are the same I am not hopeful anything will change. Which is a shame because he is a good doctor and I am positive people go elsewhere because of her.

Everything great to say about the Doctor, however Carmen in his office is terribly rude and hostile to deal with. When asked for the office managers name she refused to give it to me with good reason. She does not want to be reported! He really should reconsider having her in his office.

Called to make an appointment for the first time. This was my experience just in the phone call. Receptionist answers the phone and has me on speaker and it is difficult to hear her and she kept saying to me "WHAT?" so I assume she was having difficulty hearing me as well. Also I didn't feel being on speaker phone was appropriate for an office to talk with a patient. I asked her if she had me on speaker phone and her response was "Yea cuz there aint no one in the office right now" I responded "well I prefer if you don't have me on speaker because we seem to be having trouble hearing one another for one, and also there are privacy concerns." her response "theres a what?" I hung up. good job on the wonderful office staff doctor. will not be seeing you because of this experience Called to make an appointment for the first time. Dr Zakalik is an amazing surgeon. He did brain surgery on my 3 week old baby to give him a shunt for his Dandy-Walker (rare) and hydrocephalus. He was very free with important information and answered every question that we had. He checked on him several times after surgery (baby was in the NICU) and made us feel like our boy was really important to him. <3 Dr Zakalik is an amazing surgeon. While I have only amazing things to say about Dr Zakalik, his office staff is basically one lady who is the rudest person you will come across when trying to deal with sensitive issues like surgery! She must be related to the Doctor because there is no other logical reason why she would be allowed to work here as she is so rude to the point of hanging up on me multiple times when trying to reschedule an appointment and using profanities.

Can't say enough good things about Dr. Zakalik. I had a L5-S1 Microdiscectomy in June 2016 by Dr. Z for a herniated disc causing partial foot drop. I had a lot of anxiety about back surgery given all the horror stories you hear and sought multiple opinions prior to moving forward with surgery after 2+ months of PT and little improvement. After meeting with Dr. Z I had full confidence my surgery would be successful with no complications and it was. He's down to earth with a sense of humor too.
