Dr. Joseph Upton III

Questionable billing practices several years after services rendered and no bill nor communication created over several years. Have to seek legal counsel to subpoena Upton’s patient records and billing history as he is now in retirement and office claims there is no documentation. Potential ethical issues for this practice that needs to be revealed.

Please do your research. Do not fall into a false sense of security by the doctors confidence. I can only speak to my own experience, and everyone has opinions. Dr. Upton did surgery on my wrist when I was a teenager leaving it with super restricted movement, blood flow restriction returning to my hand, nerve damage and put me on a path of chronic pain. None of these issues caused by the surgery have ever been able to be fixed. The medical issue I have is very complex, and I understand that unexpected things can happen, but he ensured me with great confidence I didn't need to live in pain and he would be able to help with the vascular issue. Then when things got worse I never heard from him again. Hearing there was a viable option was a pray answered for an active high school kid. Sometimes we can be talked into false hope when we are desperate for help. Please make sure you approach every decision cautiously with rational expectations. It wasn't until after my surgery that it came out he was being investigated for his for something that had happened in a previous surgery. I will not go into detail but if you look into it, it's not hard to find. Luckily for the doctor, he never has to think twice about messing up someone's wrist after they leave the hospital. DR Upton helped my father with alzheimers approximately 15 years ago. My handsome daddy in his 80s had cancer on his nose 1/4 was cut out . Dr Upton used a skin flap to fix his nose.. Given that he had alzheimers Dr Upton made sure my father was well cared for two weeks with a sitter and a hospital stay until my father was healed. My dad lived for a few years after and was still handsome until the day he passed. The kindness Dr upton showed my father and I , from the office visits , surgery consultation, to the after care. I dislocated my left thumb very badly falling down the stairs. When the MRI revealed I would definitely need surgery to get my thumb and hand back to normal I was skeptical and nervous. Dr. Upton made a process that should've been very unsettling and anxiety provoking to be easy instead. Dr. Upton was truly an A+ in all the areas you would hope for. Sometimes you'll have a doctor who has excellent bedside manner but you don't think is giving you the correct advice/diagnosis or you'll have a doctor who seems very competent, but doesn't really seem to care about you. Dr. Upton was as good as I could've asked for in every category. Now, less than a month after my surgery my thumb is healing great and feeling more and more like normal every day. Extraordinary surgeon who excels is handling the toughest of cases.

Dude operated on my stump (amputation) in 1986. He transplanted 1/3 of my latissimus-dorsey (side/back) muscle to the end of my stump to enable me to wear a prosthetic. (9/7/85 amputation was traumatic and was a mess that Dr.Upton made-into a viable stump. 15-hours' surgery, with all the venus and blood cell connection, et.al. I am eternally grateful.

Dr Upton has saved my finger and thumb over 17 years due to saw accidents (I am a carpenter). Other less educated doctors wanted to cut off my index finger and my thumb and Dr Upton refused to do so. He is still as sharp as a tack and looks as good today as the day I met him. John G Nee.

Dr Upton is the best of the best hand surgeon. I caught my hand in a machine that wasn't guarded. I lost the 1st digit of my small finger and my thumb. The tendon in my ring finger couldn't be repaired. So an extra tendon was taken from my arm and inserted into my finger. After a few weeks of therapy the tendon ruptured. My index finger was almost completely cut through including the bone. Dr Upton along with Dr Tattlebaum painstakingly put my hand back together. You can't even see the stitches. I was in the hospital for 8 days on antibiotics because it was an industrial accident. It's amazing how they could put everything back together. Thank you Dr Upton and Dr Tattlebaum. Highly skilled, knowledgeable specialist who has an excellent bedside manner. I felt fortunate to have him care for family member.

Dr. Upton has worked with us for over 10 years to help our burned grandson have the best chance possible. He is absolutely amazing with his compassion and bedside manner. I would never take Alex anywhere else when it comes to surgical care. We absolutely love Dr. Upton and the care he provides. <3

My child was born with Grieg Syndrome and Dr. Upton performed multiple surgeries to correct multiple issues with her hands and feet. He is dedicated and extremely talented. My daughter is full grown now and aside from a single extra large knuckle shows no hint of defect. I thank God for him every day.

A genius with a great dry sense of humor. He did what a top surgeon said he would not even attempt. It seems as if he would like to sit with you and chat for awhile. :)

Doctor Upton has been with me since early childhood, he has routinely preformed miracles in correcting a birth defect in my hand. Going so far as correcting some very ugly work from a previous physician in PA. I can honestly say I wouldn't be the same person I am today without the care of Doctor Upton.
