In my X-rays my spine looked like rocks washed out of a drainage ditch by a hurricane. Dr. Stern told me my back was “horrendous.” So I figured I’d be lucky to be alive after the operation. Afterward Dr Stern told me in recovery that mine was one of the bigger operations he has done. But all went well. It is a measure of his mastery that I never had much pain afterward. And while I was headed toward losing the ability to walk and control other functions prior to surgery, every day after has brought improvement. I am still making significant progress each week in PT. So though I cannot yet report end results, (I am now walking with a cane and driving my car) as Thoreau once said of himself, “I expect great things.” Oh, and I must add,Jody’s positive spirit and the upbeat attitude of everyone in the office aid the course of recovery. Said simply, he’s the best.

Got an MRI for what I thought was a pinched nerve. Found out I had a really bad disc herniation in my neck. The herniation caused a lot of pressure on my spinal cord. My orthopedic wasted no time. I was referred to CNSA, specifically to Dr. Stern, mind you, that was before I even left their office. Upon my meeting with Dr. Stern & his wonderful team, they reviewed my situation, discussed options & expressed clearly why this procedure would be best. Were patient, thoughtful, & kind with me. Answering all of my queries on & off hours. Even made sure to prioritize my surgery ahead due to severity. On 2-28-22, I had a C6 Corpectomy. The last thing I remember is Dr. Stern saying I got you. I had said aloud to the universe that morning, you got me right? He surely did. I have had no pain from the surgery, easy healing & am back to normal! Dr. Stern is meticulous, compassionate, & respectful. He is top notch! 10/10! Josh & Brian are amazing! Thanks for everything guys! #bestteam

Everything was great,on time and helpful.

Dr. Stern came highly recommended from close friends. His office is about 50 miles (an hour) from my home. After seeing him I know why my friends said that I should go to him. He is thorough and easy to talk to. I have recommended family and friends since seeing him, including my wife. His office and clinical personnel are great as well. Thank you Dr. Stern. I am very pleased with Dr. Stern’s assessment of my neck and lower back pain. I look forward to the upcoming steroid shots which I hope will relieve some of the pain. The best news was - I will not have to undergo surgery.

Dr. Stern is an excellent surgeon with a great bedside manner. I highly recommend him.

I have been a patient of Dr. Stern for over 15 years. He is attentive and compassionate! He has been a wonderful doctor for me. Highly recommend his book, “Grief Connects Us” from Amazon.

Dr. Stearn agreed to see me quickly after I contacted his office and explained my situation resulting from an injury caused by overexertion during yard work. An MRI revealed a severely ruptured disk impinging on nerves. Surgery has been scheduled for removal of the protruding tissue. Hopefully, all will go well.

I came into contact with Dr. Stern and his team when my dad was brought to the ER with a traumatic brain injury. Dr. Stern and his NP Josh were incredibly compassionate and explained the situation in a simple, straight forward but kind manner. They were in regular contact with us throughout the whole process. Their expertise and support helped make a very difficult situation a little easier to deal with. I would highly recommend them. We felt heard and supported.

Dr. Stern and his entire staff are wonderful. Very cordial and efficient. I would recommend this practice to anyone in need of their services. I had a DBS which eliminated the tremors I had for years. I will be trusting Dr. Stern to replace the batteries this week. Brian is also great.

Great listener, very patient, great doctor

I am so impressed by this group, with their care, compassion and knowledge concerning my medical issues. I have been to several doctors that did not know or did not care about my medical issues. But Dr. Stern, his PA, Josh and his entire staff have located the issue and the solution. Highly recommend!

My visit was excellent.. My problem was explained to me very through so that I could understand very clearly. I felt very comfortable and confident in Mr Dr that I met with. I went to Dr. Stern for years of lower back pain. After Dr. Sterns evaluation he indicated my spine was causing much of my lower back pain, how ever he felt my hip was much more of an issue. After taking X-rays he confirmed I needed hip replacement and after that procedure he would re-evaluate my spine. One Year after hip replacement Dr.Stern corrected my lower back with with surgery. I checked in at the front desk and was given the information form to fill out. After being seated, immediately the Nurse called out my name;; shockingly, my health care began. Everyone in this practice was extremely Professional, friendly and genuinely caring with regard to my needs! This positive experience was one which I have never had before anywhere . After this initial visit, I then had to sit down to fill out the information form as the service was so exceptional there was no time to complete this. I arrived for an initial appointment on an extremely busy day, and had a long wait, but I understand that there's no way to schedule a patient for any specific amount of time until they've been evaluated. When I was called back, it was a very short wait before the PA, Josh, came in and began to do my initial exam and send me for x-rays. When I returned to my exam room, Dr Stern very quickly came in, as well. He was very pleasant, willing to answer all my questions, and his plan of care for me makes sense. After i left, I did realize that I forgot to mention a couple symptoms but I feel like I can call Dr. Stern's PA and get the information to him and the doctor. Dr. Stern is an amazing surgeon with an incredible bed side manor who genuinely cares for his patients well being. I had a level 3 ACDF and carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists and this was one of the best decisions I have ever made for my own health. Dr. Stern and his staff have been polar opposites of the care team I’d been relying on for over 15 years to free me of recurring back issues. When told to just learn to live with horrific groin and leg pain because surgery wasn’t an alternative I sought out Dr. Stern. He and his staff quickly zeroed in on the cause of pain and a month after surgery the results have been life altering for the better and a huge, huge relief. Dr. Stern performed neck surgery on me in 2002, replacing two discs, then again recently (May, 2021), due to a car accident. He has done surgery on my husband in 2007, and also advised my daughter when she was first diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Not only is he extremely skilled and knowledgeable, he is also kind and compassionate. I wouldn’t consider anyone else. Our area is very fortunate to have a surgeon of his caliber. Telephone visit but as always a very good visit

Without a doubt I would recommend Dr. Stern. He did surgery on me 10 years ago and would never consider anyone else. He obviously knows his surgery and his communication, concern and compassion for his patients is amazing! Never too busy to answer a question or concern and you are a person not just a patient or case!! He helped me 10 years ago and know I will have the same outcome this time!

Dr Stern and his PA are great. Most like-able medical specialist I have met in a long while. The business end, not so much. Was told I had to pay my part up front with no option of payment plans. Was told by the “finance” person I could put on a credit card or get a loan or maybe a credit on my mortgage or take out of a my retirement. Not very professional , sympathetic or helpful. Dr Stern has been my physician for years and has performed successful back surgery for my degenerative disc issues. He has always shown deep sincere, genuine concern to me as a patient and a person. I have complete confidence in his health care and in his advice.

I was following up for a disability letter. Dr. Stern has been an excellent physician/surgeon. Has has performed two major surgeries for me in the past 14 years. He is amazing, attentive and does exceptional work. I refer everyone I know to him.

My procedure went well. Four months later I can hardly tell that I had surgery. Dr. Stern kept me informed as to the risks, what outcome to expect and was honest enough to tell me the surgery may not fix everything. Because of his reputation as a skillful surgeon, I was not at all frightened to proceed with the procedure.

From the time you walk into the waiting room ,there are so many patients coming and going talking about their pain or what medical problemsi they had before coming to see Dr Stern. They talk of healing recieved or what the feel they will get from him. We come from far away and near to see him because for most of us we now have hope of a better quality of life. From your first consultation to completion of your time with him. You know first that he cares, he listens, and have taken the time to really review your medical situation prior to you coming to see him and then explain all you will go through and answer any questions you may have. Dr. Joseph Stern is a excellent neurosurgeon with a wonder bedside manner. He cares for his pts and has the best office staff. Dr. Stern listens to your concerns and if he doesn't have an answer he will get back with you. His nurse Brian and MA Liz are wonderful. The office staff is always very professional and courteous. Dr. Stern he’s a great doctor. He has performed surgery on me and I had an excellent result. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable he is able to explain the complex neurosurgical issues going on so that I could easily understand my condition. He takes time to listen to his patients and I would highly recommend him.

I highly recommend Dr. Stern. I have had back problems for over 40 years. I had excruciating leg pain. Dr. Stern did surgery on me in March and I have rods and screws in my spine to stabilize my spine. I have not had any leg pain since my surgery. I could not ask for better results. He truly cares for his patients and it has been a pleasure for me having him as my surgeon.

Horrible doctor. Had to see him over a workers comp claim and he ignored my condition and sided with the workers comp company. Stay away!!!

I have a pinched nerve from a previous surgey . Mr stern wanted to use me as a pin cushion. I told him I have had them before and did not get the needed results I wanted. Mr. stern said I had a misaligned spacer from earlier surgery by dr. Roy yet he didn't want to operate on me .There is no way a injection will fix that. He didn't give me any meds for my pain instead he wanted to stick me .I have found how prevalent it is that drs. want to inject a person because they charge your insurance a lot of money for very little work. I couldn’t be happier with the results of my L5/S1 spinal fusion! I suffered excruciating nerve pain which required daily painkillers for several years prior to having my surgery - I’m now virtually pain free. Both Dr. Stern and his RN Brian Poteat were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time necessary to fully explain the procedure to me. Additionally, as I was having second thoughts the week of my scheduled surgery, Brian spent more than a hour on the telephone with me, answering all the additional questions that I had, helping me better understand what to expect. Amazing experience all around. I had been dealing with numbness and tingling along with pain in my right leg and foot for 7 months along with constant lower back pain. I tried therapy and multiple other things with no improvement . I had a Microdiscectomy of my L5-S1 with Dr Stern and had immediate relief after surgery, all feeling returned in my leg and foot and pain gone. I wish I had the surgery earlier!!
