Dr. Joseph J Souza

Inept doctor.ICD by Metronic installedin 2014. Had me on different meds which caused more shocks due to irregular heart beats complicated by the medications . He could not give me the number of my shocks. Claims all have been erased.I estimate the number of episodes to be over 1000. I saw him personally 3 times in 6 years. I have an idea . The reason is his lecture tour and reimbursements from Metronic and other pharmaceutical compannies. You can see these on "Dollars for Docs" provided by Pro Publica. I am unable to show you on this review It's about 400,000 in fees paid to him . Way over the national average ! April 2020, was admitted again to ER . This time for more than 300 + shocks. Fortunately he was "on vacation " again. Anotherdoctor was on duty . He recommended an ablation which I discussed previously with Souza but always told me it was dangerous, that a change of meds again would be better despite my objections Had the ablation at Duke 7/1/2020. No Shocks. Disgusted

Saw this doctor 3 times in six years.( on paid lecture tour) He Installed anInternal Cardiac Device (ICD)in July 2014. Received more than a thousand - two thousand shocks in a span of 7 years. In April 2020 was brought to the ER after 350 + episodes. He was on vacation another Dr recommended an ablation . It was finally performed at Duke who immediately took off the medicine that was causing irregular heartbeats causing the ICD to fire. I insisted that an ablation be done in 2015 but Dr Souza said it was dangerous and changed the Amiadarone for Quinidine which caused the same results. Very disappointed and sad in his handling this situation that caused me distress for 6 years in delaying the ablation.

After 10 months of not getting any better, I asked for a second opinion. To which Dr Souza threatened me . This 'doctor' should not be practicing medicine period. Will be filing formal complaint.

He did surgery on my Husband, Could not ask for better treatment and an excellent outcome. Very nice to family, even though we could tell he was physically exhausted from long hours with my husband in the operating room. Over a year later, my husband is fine.. Thank you –from a grateful wife
