What a fantastic doctor! So very informative and patient and he even has a great personality. I’m always comfortable with seeing him. His staff is experienced and polite. Something that is very rare these days. All together a great place to go.

He is very kind and on top of things. The office staff including the nurses are wonderful. Very rare.

After hysterectomy , cancer,internal radiation , 5 hernias. My bladder and all were falling out with very little wall to hold it up , he fixed it perfectly !! First time I’ve felt normal in years !!! I highly recommend him ! Great Dr !!!

Wasted almost a year repeating expensive tests that had just been done. Was told I had to go through physical therapy (for an unrelated issue) before he would perform my surgery. Involved another surgeon that ordered the SAME tests to be done again. Then office staff called and told me an absolute lie; that Medicare would not cover my surgery, so he could not do it. Upon speaking with Medicare, and learning this was untrue, I called the office back and was told that they said that because they didn't know what else to say, as he was not interested in doing my surgery. This was just SO WRONG! Everything being done for almost a year was in preparation for my surgery. Now I'm having to start completely over with a new doc. So disappointed, and shocked that this is acceptable behavior within the medical profession. Wasted almost a year repeating expensive tests that had just been done. I was her patiente for maiby 7 years and always the waiting time is too longer and when he came to room for see you ., he take no more that 3 minutes for stay with you and ask question about your health. Now he move from Chattanooga to Gunbarrel Rd far and today I have my appoint at 9.15 but I were there at 8:55 am Nobody was in the recepcion for Md Portere (is supposed to be Stacy) another person in recepcion said wait wile somebody call you. But I was seat for 45 min and I look to Stacy ans she still not there. After 5 min ., finally I saw her and told was a mistake and I m the next person for going to waiting room. After 5 min than still wait I DECIDED TO GO !! I was never happy with the doctor or his reception Now he move IT’S A NIGHTMARE TO TALK TO SOMEONE IN PERSON !! You need to leave a message on the machine and then in the afternoon they call you back ??? I DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DOCTOR JOSEPH C PORTERA ! After treatments by other doctors had failed, Dr. Portera performed extensive bladder and pelvic surgery on me. He is very knowledgable in his area and explains procedures in depth. He and his staff were a pleasure to work with. I would certainly recommend Dr. Portera to others!

Wasted almost a year repeating test that had already been done performing required physical therapy before my surgery, surgery never happened, asked questions that I never got a response to. Ultimately, staff called me and told me an absolute lie about why my surgery couldn't be performed. When I checked with Medicare and found out that was not true, I called back and was told they didn't know what else to tell me but he wasn't interested in doing my surgery. A lot of time and money wasted.

I have been a patient of Dr. Portera's for over 15 years. He has always been kind, professional, very knowledgeable on up-to-date information, takes time to listen as well as give any information I have ever needed while under his care. I have a complete trust in him when it comes to my care. I'd also like to mention Stacy, at his front desk. She is always friendly and has a smile on her face.
