Wait time can be crazy but Dr. Martel is great. My dad's eyesight was progressively getting worse. DR. Martel explained the difference in the scans and helped us understand what was happening. Dr. Martel did what was possible to preserve the vision and helped dad through the process of becoming blind. He takes his time with every patient and doesn't rush you out the door. Totally unorganized! Way to many people in waiting room. I like Dr.Martel, but not worth the waiting room.

ZERO STARS. I really like Dr. Martel. But the idiots running his office billed the wrong insurance company and then sent me to collections for an amount that was about 3 times what they said it would be during the office visit. They never answered the phone when I called, never returned a single voice message, never responded to a single letter. The collection agency was only interested in getting cash out of me, not resolving the blatant billing error shown on the statement it took me months to get them to provide. "Pateint appears to have other coverage" written right on the statement. Completely incompetent! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

It is hard to understand how this man is even in business... completely unprofessional. Go anywhere else but martel eye. Wish I had read the hundreds of reviews prior to my wife's appointment. People are not exaggerating this is the worst possible health care you can find. 3 hour wait skipped over twice. Rude staff that shrugs at you because you are only an inconvenience to their conversation... This "man" shouldn't be allowed to sell at the swap meet let alone medical care. It is true that often, so much is going on that appointment meetings get backed up. That is because the doctors are genuinely interested in problems presented by their patients, a refreshing change from no feedback cookie cutter, one size fits all, approach taken by many medical offices in the name of efficiency and profit. A 2020 hire is a stronger influence for efficiency, pressed to keep high compassion levels. Along with their Accounting Manager it can help for them to hire an Information Manager to better control their time with more staff or to take on fewer patients to keep on track. To me they are very capable practitioners. You really want that in eye guys. It is true that often, so much is going on that appointment meetings get backed up. Customer service is horrible. If your appointments are at 8:00am get ready to be seen at 11! They have no respect for patients time.

My Husband went for his appointment and waited 3 hours and twenty minutes. Over booked and understaffed! DON'T GO. You will be irritated with the LONG wait.

Dr Martel was contacted by Sutter ER when my mother was in from out of town and had an emergency eye problem in the middle of the night. Dr Martel made a recommendation for emergency treatment and then scheduled a follow up appointment for the following day, which was the Friday after Thanksgiving. Dr Martel was a no show. We're very disappointed with the lack of professionalism in how this was handled. Forgetting an 89 year old woman in need of further evaluation and possibly treatment is not excusable. My 72 yr old mother was originally scheduled for an appointment back in November of 2019 for a surgery on her right eye for early January. One day before the surgery I get a phone call from Martel Eye to tell us the Dr who scheduled the surgery decided to go on vacation and now we need to pick another day. ( mind you the surgery is a 2 day process 1st day surgery 2nd day follow up) I have already moved my days around at work to accommodate what days I thought I needed off. I work out the details with my job after calling in a few favors and reschedule for later in the month of January when the Dr will be back from Mexico.... fast forward to the day of the surgery where they had asked to be there at 6:45AM ( had to be up 2hrs prior to surgery for pre op eye drops to dilate the pupils) after sitting for 2+hrs for the Dr to show up I ask how much longer ... to where the rude nurse (Julia Kaplan) tells me they are running behind because the dr still hasn’t showed up and if I want to leave go ahead and leave... I asked why they would schedule a surgery without Dr being available? She continues to tell me how I can leave my mom and go handle whatever I need to handle... I tell her no “I wouldn’t leave my mom alone with you guys” at this point the entire waiting room finds out what’s going on so they all start asking the same questions. Which makes Julia give me a foul look with her eyes like saying look what you started. Long story short is if you get recommended to this place ask for a second option. The amount of unprofessionalism that exists here is unreal. Stay away from Julia Kaplan the rude nurse and the Martel eye group! I am a retired physician who had bilateral cataracts removed by Dr. Martel. I asked active physicians in the ER department and staff physicians at Sutter Roseville which eye surgeon they respected and almost 100% of them eagerly recommended Dr. Martel. Both my surgeries went flawlessly. The long wait times in the office, I feel, are the result of the large volume of patients being seen and Dr. Martel’s penchant for completely explaining facts and procedures. Most complaints in my opinion, are petty, especially knowing you are seeing the number one eye physician in the area!

You will have to.wait 2 hrs for a 15 mins exam. This place books too many appointments in a day. The doctor rushed through exam.

My initial thought... If you can, find someone else. Had an appt... Got called back 45 minutes later... Tech starts one test, and WALKS OFF! I have to find someone to get her back to finish the test! Only to realize, she didn't set me up correctly for the first side... She had to call someone in to help her! We move to a second test... She had to call someone in AGAIN! Then, although I should move on to the doctor, I'm told they HAD to take someone ahead of me!!! WTF! Should anything improve DRASTICALLY, I will update my review. But right now, I am crazy underwhelmed, and will most likely have to leave before they get around to completing my visit because of another obligation that was scheduled 3 hrs later! Staffs were friendly and professional. The only complain was I waited almost 2hrs to be seen for less then 7 mins. I was on time for my appointment. My kids were climbing up the walls. Need improvement on that. Other than that my concerns were addressed. Doctor knows what he's doing. Recommend.

Dr. Martel and his staff rush through everything. I felt like I was a piece on an assembly line. When Dr. Martel walked in the room he didn't introduce himself. I told him I get dizzy when my eyes get dilated and asked him to talk through the process with me. He brushed me off and grabbed the dilation drops anyway. I had to tell him to stop, slow down, and even ask if he was the doctor (as he never even told me his name) He was so unprofessional. No doctor should treat patients like this.

I also have a review posted on yelp but in6addition to that one I must add that the front office staff is just short of being rude but are very detached and unconcerned and couldn't care less if someone can potentially lose sight. I'm sure if I could actually speak to my former Dr. Martel he would be so caveleer about it But I guess I won't find out because I have to find another doctor. Long wait time to get an appointment, longer wait time to see the doc. Office furniture is dangerous to your back! Be aware of this when you sit. Doc told me that my blepheritis is caused by poor hygiene! When I told my new opthalmologist this, he laughed, using a kindergartener playing in a sandbox, who rubs his eyes as an example of how easy it is to get blepheritis.

I waited four months to see Dr. Joseph R. Martel, the Ophthalmologist. He was running 1 hour behind by 10:30am and his assistant took me back and had me read two lines on the eye chart. Then Dr. Joseph R. Martel came in and looked at the findings and took my glasses into the other room to check the power of the lenses. He came back and said I was fine - no adjustment - and no need to complete the remainder of the exam. No dilation, no lens comparisons, no glaucoma check. Simply Appalling!

My mom went to Dr. Martel before. I took her to see him for her third appointment. He didn't seem to remember anything they talked about in her previous appointments. We were at his office for 4 hours and he only spent 30 minutes with us. Also, the staff wasn't friendly. This lady, with a thick accent, was asking my mom questions and when my mom couldn't understand her she raised her voice at my mom. I don't recommend this place to anyone. I would give zero starts
