Dr. Joseph Kandel

After having such awful past experiences with neurologists, I was extremely nervous and apprehensive about my referral to another neurologist. However, Dr. Kandel was absolutely wondeful and incredibly thorough, attentive and empathetic. His bedside manner was outstanding and I truly felt listened to for the first time with any neurologist. The patience to listen to me and the knowledge and skill to treat me literally brought me to tears when got back to my car. Thank you Dr. Kandel. I feel like my life and health will only get better from here on out. P.s. I also had such a wondeful experience with all the staff there.

Very personable and relatable. Highly knowledgeable and highly organize. Never been to ANY Dr . as highly organized and has everything laid out to have an access and easy step by step approach, no matter what a person’ intellect ability is to understand. Answers all questions while leaving patient with dignity. Takes time and does not rush. Breaks everything down so a common person can understand. Makes patients feel important and treats patients with upmost respect. No arrogance at all. Comes across as down to earth. Office staff friendly and professional and personable. Would recommend to anyone seeking professional and thorough advice while not making patients feel like 2nd class citizens.

I saw Dr. Kandel today with my husband, who is battling Alzheimer's dementia as well as various orthopedic issues. I was very impressed with Dr. Kandel's attention, empathy and approach. During the time he spent with us he made sure to get a full understanding of what we are going through and we immediately felt that he was focused on finding the best possible outcome for us. His staff was great as well, from the gentleman at the front desk who assisted us with the forms to the lovely Sottish PA who took our vitals and history. Dr. Kandel and his entire staff are very caring. They listen and always do their best to make sure all questions are answered and develop a plan of treatment. Dr. Kandel is amazing! The staff on the other hand are not! Claire the clinic manager is extremely rude with rolling of her eyes when you try to express your frustration with how the clinic is being overseen. She is not friendly nor does she have any sympathy or care of the clinic operations .

I called as a new patient to get an appt after having two strokes. The Dr. denied my intake form based on my address which is in a different county. My insurance recommended him. I work in Lee County, why does it matter where I live?? I guess accepting new patients if you live 10 mins away.

I was referred to Dr. Kandel by my internist. I have been dealing with several medical issues for many years and have become well versed about my diagnoses. I had hoped that the doctor could help me as I was overwhelmed with my latest set of issues. Unfortunately, the appointment was a disaster and upset me horribly. I can honestly say that I had never been to a doctor who was so rude and arrogant and had absolutely no compassion. When I disagreed with his conclusions and wanted to discuss, he cut me off completely and said he would not accept me as a patient and stormed out of the office. When I saw the negative reviews on Dr. Kandel in Healthgrades, I realized I was not the only patient who was treated this way. dr kandel was one of 8 neurologist I saw. He dismissed me when I got upset because it took 3 attempts and 9 1/2 months to get an mri. Last month the 8th neuro did a spinal tap and found I had a hsv 1 brain infection. I was lucky because it never turned into encephalitis or meningitis. My Infectious Disease Doctor told me she had never seen someone live as long as I did with this type of brain infection and that I will have to stay on the medication for the rest of my life. dr kandel should understand that neurological disease can often present as a psychiatric disorder. If I had died from this he would have been a big reason why as he could care less and did almost nothing to help. He is very sensitive so don’t hurt his feelings or he will dismiss you. Went to see Dr Kandel after a stroke. First visit was wonderful and I thought wow. But the good Dr did the old ‘switcheroo.’ He ordered more MRI of brain and neck and when the results came in I was switched to a PA who clearly couldn’t interpret what she was reading. At which point I requested his majesty and he obliged me with his presence for a few minutes to tell me I might need spinal surgery and referring me to his colleague. Subsequent appointment was made with the PA which I promptly cancelled. Waiting to see how the insurance was billed—PA rate or Experienced Neurologist rate. Absolutely amazing. Clearly he needs more Neurologists in his practice instead of relying on PAs to read results and give a prognosis on life and death matters where patients are paying for his expertise. I went to Kandel 9 months ago with cat scan showing extreme pressure in my head. I stated I hear a thumping in my head all day and night, I have recent weigh gain, no energy, developed high blood pressure something is wrong with me. Three visits of tests, Kandel comes back in the office, throws up his hands and says"There is nothing wrong with you" You need to see my friend the chiropractor, that will fix your problem. So I go see him, meanwhile my condition is getting worse I am developing more health issues and now I can not see straight, can't think right, but I go back to my primary care physician and start getting recommendations to other specialists to see what else it could be. Why is this happening to me.......months later, thousands of dollars wasted, over 60 doctor visits, no closer. During this time my head pressure is getting worse. I forced by PCF to approve an MRI Until finally it is so bad I thought I was going to die, I call Kandel and (who wouldn't get on the phone) his admin said they were prescribing a drug. I literally had spinal fluid running out of my nose and I could not see, I thought I was going to die. I was rushed to the ER where an ER doctor looking at my MRI and my condition diagnosed me ti psuedotumor cerebri. And, the ER team was SHOCKED that after all this time neither neurologist would not have diagnosed this right away or my doctor. They were so shocked they googled Kandel to actually make sure I was telling the truth he was an actual neurologist. Kandel made me suffer. Kandel wasted months of my life searching for answers elsewhere trying to figure out the puzzle of my illness when, if he was worth a damn, this could have been solved on my first visit. As I have come to understand this is a very common an easy diagnosi, left untreated as I was, it causes blindness, blood issues, strokes, etc. It is unforgivable. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I recently saw Dr. Kandel with my 87 year old father. Dr. Kandel cut me off when I tried to ask questions, he was obviously upset that I asked to see him rather than his Nurse Practitioner. My father has severe Parkinson's and cannot communicate. As my fathers patient advocate, I needed to ask important questions about his diagnosis and his care. Dr. Kandel was demeaning and condescending. I later shared my experience with a nurse at my fathers assisted living facility and she stated that Dr. Kandel has a horrible reputation due to his rude and abrupt manners. I just recently started seeing Dr. Kandel a few months ago and he is phenomenal. He is extremely thorough, and you can tell how much he just wants to help you!

When I first met Dr Kandel I thought I finally found someone to help me. But I was proven wrong. After rescheduling 1 apt and missing 1 I was told he would no longer treat me. I explained that I missed the last apt due to my 13 year old daughter not dealing with this pandemic and stress of starting back to school. So on the day of my apt I got a horrifying call from her that she really needed some mental health help right away, and my daughter's life was most on my mind that day and I forgot about my apt. All the receptionist could say is "well it is the doctors time you wasted and he can give you a referral but will not treat you" . So apparently his time is more important than my daughter's life. That's good to know and I will never refer anyone to him and will make sure everyone knows.

Just moved to Naples, Florida and did not yet have Medical Insurance, but needed a Neurologist. I would be happy to pay out of pocket for each appointment, but apparently this Dr. enjoys abusing insurance companies for extra cash, and won’t take self pay patients. Looking at his profile, maybe he should find weight loss clinic, and stop overindulging his diet with insurance money ripping off patients! Maybe he should look at his practices during COVID-19 Pandemic!

I started treatment with Dr. Kandel this summer during the COVID thing. We had a lengthy visit without masks. When I came back, they gave me a hard time about not wearing a mask. I explained my medical exemption, and they accommodated me. The third time, however, the office manager would not let me in. I had two masks with me, but neither was acceptable (one was a Donald Trump mask, but I don't know if that was the problem). She then said they had no masks to give me, so my only option was to leave without being seen. I found that strange, given that three of the four women in the front were NOT wearing masks themselves. Two were maskless, and one had her mask hanging down over one ear. After I left, I wrote Dr. Kandel directly to ask if there was any workaround, but he did not reply. I wrote him again, and his office manager called and told me, basically, "No mask, no service." So, that was the end. In short, I liked Dr. Kandel, but his office staff was both rude and hypocritical.

Comprehensive exam with large support team including physical therapy. I have been fighting headaches firvyears and thus is the first time I don't need to always turn to a narcotic for relief. Great "bedsid manner" and easy to get an appointment. Helped negotiated insurance coverage.

Dr. Kandel and his staff are awsome they are working with my workers comp people to help me with whats going on with my back . They think that i might have to have surgery and i am going to see him on the 1st of next month to get this pain under control and see what needs to be done because my back is still killing me like crazy

Worst office ever. My husband was seen by this doctor once. The doctor had a list of at least 7 tests to be run, but the office staff gave me an incomplete list and expected meet be clairvoient and figure out what tests he wanted and how to get them run. They were of no help in scheduling a sedation for his tests even though he could not have the tests done without. They argued with the hospital on paperwork and the test was denied until I called all of the hospital execs to get help. One minute they told us he needed a certain test before he could see the Dr and the next he did not need it then back to needing it. But they did not tell us where the test was to be done or that orders had been sent months before. Then one person in the office told us his chart would be marked as "non-compliant" if we did not get all of these tests done before his appointment in two weeks. Again we had trouble getting sedation for another test. Everything was a fight. He had gone for still another test and the Dr who did the testing asked when he would see Dr Kandel again. We told her in two days. She looked surprised and told us we may want to check because she thought he was on vacation, which he was. They had made the appointment with the PA to review all of these tests. I found this inappropriate all of these tests should be reviewed by the Dr with the patient to establish diagnosis. The case can be turned over to the PA once that diagnosis is established. Then we were told he had to get one more test done before anyone would see him. So he did and an appointment was made. We got to the office to find the doors locked. Went next-door and they told us he was not in that office today. My husband said he would never go back. If the doctor is incapable of overseeing his office staff which is the front line of his business, then it is doubtful he is capable of overseeing his patients health. Worst office ever. Superb diagnostician with stellar PT staff. Their collective enthusiasm has me functioning at great levels. Getting back to this functionalilty was done with minimal pain - I highly recommend.

Dr Kandel is excellent, listened to my concerns, didn't feel rushed at my appointments. He is very compassionate and knowledgeable. His bedside manner makes you feel relaxed and at ease. I saw Dr. Kandel for the first time yesterday and I have never had such a lovely experience at a doctors office! He spent ample time with me and I'm confident he is going to get to the root of my problems.

Dr Kandel and his Staff are incredible. His PA Christopher Hatwell, his OT Gloria, and the man who conducted my nerve tests were all top notch. I went from suffering from debilitating migraines every 5-7 days to having one in 3 months. I cannot thank them enough for giving me a better quality of life. I am forever grateful.

Please beware. The most rude, arrogant, and downright nasty doctor I have ever been to. These positive reviews must be false. I have never been treated so poorly be a doctor. He was insulting and negative and should not be practicing. It is a good thing I'm in the medical field, because I was able to recognize a lot of false and wrong information that he was giving me. Please don't put yourself through what I just had to endure.

Dr Kandel is an amazing doctor! He was the 7th Neuro doc I’ve seen in the last 2 years. He had me walk around and almost immediately pointed out weak muscles I have been telling other docs about but they all ignored. He was also teasing me saying I was rushing him through the exam (as every other doctor did rush me before I met him. He is very Honest, Kind, and Humble. He also went above and beyond by giving me videos and telling what shoes to buy for optimal back alignment and showed me a shiatsu massager which I bought and it is amazing and he sent me to a stand up MRI because I am severely claustrophobic now for some reason. I am so happy I found him and am looking forward to a good long patient doctor relationship. Again not just a wonderful doctor but he also seems to be a great human being.

Poor,

Worst office ever. My husband was seen by this doctor once. The doctor had a list of at least 7 tests to be run, but the office staff gave me an incomplete list and expected meet be clairvoient and figure out what tests he wanted and how to get them run. They were of no help in scheduling a sedation for his tests even though he could not have the tests done without. They argued with the hospital on paperwork and the test was denied until I called all of the hospital execs to get help. One minute they told us he needed a certain test before he could see the Dr and the next he did not need it then back to needing it. But they did not tell us where the test was to be done or that orders had been sent months before. Then one person in the office told us his chart would be marked as "non-compliant" if we did not get all of these tests done before his appointment in two weeks. Again we had trouble getting sedation for another test. Everything was a fight. He had gone for still another tes

I have never been to a Dr’s and or rehab offices that are so professional ???? I have been receiving such marvelous care.. I highly recommend anyone In there rehab center !! And of course Dr. Kandal Thank you ????

Excellent medical care. Dr. Kandel is very thorough. Physical therapist treatments help me to get relief from pain & are they very competent.

I've been coming to this office for almost 2 years. I've been to several places for therapy this is the absolute best I will never change. If I could give 10 stars i would. Dr. Kandel diagnosed me after some testing within days. First doctor that's ever done that for me. A++ team!

I cannot say enough about Doctor Kandel and his amazing staff. When anyone goes into therapy you are not yourself, you may feel broken, depressed and for certain you are in pain. I can speak for all who have chosen to come here for relief that the staff here are the most caring, kind and loving people that you can ever meet. The staff here is not only educated and skilled in physical therapy, but help guide you back emotionally with motivation, determination and sometimes even tough love after all it’s you who has to do the work. I’m so happy that I was guided here by a friend in the community. It has made a tremendous difference in my life. I’m on the road back and I am so grateful and blessed. My husband and I have been receiving treatments after a car accident. Dr. Kandel and his PT/ staff are perhaps some of the best health care providers in SWFL as far as we are concerned. Lets start with an excellent bedside manner of Dr. Kandel and his PA Chris P. Lynn the front desk coordinator..is the BEST we've seen in Florida. She goes above and beyond to accommodate you on days where you have to have PT and also to follow-up with the Dr. She is efficient, courteous and very helpful. This is a big + in any Dr. office. The PT dpt. comprised of Becca, Shelly and Eddy..they all are very good hands-on practitioners, very knowledgeable. They all make you feel welcome and they truly care about your outcome. Dr Kandel did not listen to my late husband when he told him about the excruciating pain and swelling he had in his leg but because Dr. K. thought he was faking for workers comp. He ignored it and My husband died a week later from a deep vein thrombosis when all Dr Kandel had to do was order an ultrasound. I would never recommend him.

Best doctor we have ever had! And we ate not young!!

Dr. Kandell is one of the best doctors I've ever been to. He spent lot's of time with my wife and I, much more than I expected. He listened intently, asked lot's of questions and gave me a thorough exam. I had been to 4 other doctors who did tests and then threw their hands up. In all the neurologist I have ever met in Naples, Mayo Clinic Etc I have never met such an amazing doctor..... DOCTOR KANDEL .When DOCTOR KANDEL lwalked in the room he was such a joy and so kind.He took so much time with me and most of all he LISTENED TO ME AND MY PAIN, WHERE most of the neurologist have saided there's No HOPE. After I met with him he immediately ran test for me that I've never had done by other neurologists. They showed many results of where my pain was coming from. He immediately lined up an amazing physical therapist Gloria who worked with me brought my pain down from a 10 to 3 . Between her and all of his staff with no pain medication in my body I was able to get my nerve pain under control to a 3 Then he did a procedure that really really helped me bring my pain down to a one I have nothing else to say but this is a miracle !!!! I found dr. Kandel and his staff everyone there is friendly I really believe this is the way medical field should help people not just get them in and out. Dr. Kandel is very knowledgeable. Thinks outside the box and provides information and guidance in an unique way. I believe he truly cares. Very easy to understand and explains everything very well. His staff is very friendly and helpful.

Not only he is great with his patient. He has a great loyal respectful and knowledgeable medical staff working for him. He’s not only love by his patients, he’s love by his staff

He made some very rude comments to me and made me feel uncomfortable. He didn't care about listening to symptoms. He just told me I'm a mess... The office mixed up my MRIs and got the wrong ones done which ended up costing me more money, then wouldn't go over my MRIs. I won't be coming back.

The Most Caring and Loving doctor in Naples. We have been going to him for over 20 years. He has help, both my husband and myself, So much. In Neurology for the nerves and back pain, he is an Expert in Neurology. Not only he is great with his patient, he is a professor and a writer, he writes an article on Neurology on a monthly basis for the medical journal. He has a great loyal knowledgeable medical staff working for him. He is not only love by his patients, he is love by his staff.
