Dr. Joseph F Buell

I am a former patient and all I can say about butcher Buell is...RUN! He messed with my intestines, which was not part of my surgery. I was told my intestines exploded. It's been almost 3 years and every time I asked him what happened, he ignored me. I was left in a coma and on life support. I have memories of a horrible coma dream and hallucinations for the first month and a half. During that time he gave me multiple surgeries that were not necessary. My stomach wall became so weak. He left my intestines touching my stomach wall. That caused me to have fistulas pop up on me. It's like sink holes in your stomach and bile pours out. Been having those for about 2 years now. He told me not to mess with my life support tube cause he didn't think I'd wanna pull it out and die. Of course I didn't! So with no warning he jerked it out and started laughing cause it scared me so bad. I am highly allergic to gabapentin and he prescribed it to me in the hospital, knowing I was allergic. It's been almost 3 years and I'm still fighting to get past the injury he caused me. HE WAS FIRED. A certain doctor took notice of what he was doing and knew he had to go. So they jumped on the first excuse to get him out quick. He was fired for calling a patient a homo! Yes you read that right. I am now left mutilated by this monster. I will have chronic pain the rest of my life because of him. I asked another doctor to never recommend butcher Buell and his words exactly were... After what he did to you and one other patient of mine, I would never recommend him ever. I have a friend I went to school with. Her mother was a victim of butcher Buell too. Unfortunately, she died. He left a huge hole in this poor lady. I've had doctors, nurses, CNA's,LPN's, and orderlies tell me horror stories of the conditions he leaves his patients in. There are so many who have lost their lives to this butcher. And there's a few of us who survived only to live a horrible life. I am begging you to please listen to my warning. I took the time to write this all out and I'm hoping I can save someone from making a fatal mistake. I will forever warn people of him till he is stopped. Please sell someone else. I can personally recommend Dr. Jesse Sulzer. Now that's a doctor who cares and he's amazing. He corrected a lot of stuff butcher Buell did to me. But I underwent a 2 day surgery to get it fixed. Please always check out any doctor you get. It's a lesson I learned the hard way. Not all doctors can be trusted. I hope you make the right decision. May God bless and be with you.

Do not go to this man. Can't express that enough. He butchered me and a lot of others too. He was fired from Asheville Mission Hospital. I have filed a complaint with the medical board. I won't stop till I know he will never hurt another person again. He caused my insides to blow up. Then he put me back together all wrong. I'm still fighting to heal but Dr Jesse Sulzer is an amazing doctor going around trying to heal the ones Buell hurt. So please for God's sake, save your life and don't see Buell.

My daughter’s experience was a nightmare. She had an umbilical hernia that Buell operated on in February, 2021. He did it by robot and installed mesh over the hernia. She was in extreme pain from the very beginning until March 2022 when she had a second surgery that removed the mesh. Buell was the most non caring doctor I have ever experienced. He let my daughter suffer for over a year telling her lies and making excuses. Thank God she found a wonderful caring doctor that did the second surgery and I have my wonderful caring and happy daughter back. Buell should be banned from doing more surgery…he’s a monster. I’m sure there are others who have had similar experiences.

Dr Buell was on the team that transplanted my husband liver in 2003 At UC he was wonderful husband was very very ill. He was one of the best factors of getting us thru the transplant !! I was a transplant patient and he was my surgeon I was very well taken care of and looked after I would highly recommend Dr.Buell or anyone with Tulane abdominal. They are the best.. Every complication I ran into they were right by my side the whole and I thank him and his team..
