My husband has been going to Dr. Mallen for back pain the last few months. We understand that back pain could be complicated and we were patient to follow his orders and take baby steps by going to PT multiple times a week and nothing else, even though not much improvement was seen. We trusted him even though he told us that he is a not a back specialist. A few months later, MRI came back confirming my husband has sciatica, we were told nothing has to change, continue to go to PT and if pain gets worse, he can prescribe medication and refer us to a back surgeon. Things got worse quickly. Since last Friday my husband has been having severe shooting pain down his leg to his ankle and foot numbness. He has been having a hard time walking, let alone doing anything else. I’m worried sick and haven’t slept, extremely stressed about my husband, along with taking care of our 20 months old and working. We have been calling everyday but a week went by Dr Mallen did not even return a call

Dr Mallen filed a claim for my MRI stating that I had persistent knee pain and had not had an x-ray, when I had a raptured ACL from one catastrophic fall and he had just done an x-ray. My insurance company therefore denied the MRI authorization. Dr Mallen's practice did not even call me to let me know - I had to follow up with my insurance company to find out. The girl at the front desk said they don't give water when I asked for a cup due to the pain. Upsetting and cold service from beginning to end.

I was sent to Dr. Mallen by Veteran Affairs for hearing loss due to my injuries sustained while in the military. Dr. Mallen and his staff went above and beyond to address my situation and to made sure I was given the proper information dealing with my hearing loss. Staff was kind and easy to get along with. Dr Mallan is personable knowledgeable and very caring. When he gives you a cortisone shot he is gentle and precise. I came to him in such pain he said it would take 3 days. 3 days later no pain .highly recommend him. Thank you.

My mother visited this Dr due to extreme back pain. She explained to the Dr. due to such extreme pain she was unable to wear a bra to work. The Dr's response was "The guys in the office must like that" she was in such pain that she did not respond to such an unprofessional remark. Dr. Mallen is a warm, caring orthopedist who takes his time listening to your questions and explaining what you need to know. He's very knowledgeable and doesn't just treat what is happening to you now, he looks ahead and gives you input on what to do to help prevent problems down the line. It is easy to get appointments, the office has a clean sitting area, low wait time, and attentive and smart doctors. They also have the equipment to get scans right in the office as well as a large Physical Therapy room so you do not need to travel around for these related items. The only con is the front desk staff's attitude; they aren't nasty, they just make you feel as if they have better things to do rather than look up to see you standing there. Dr. Mallen and his office staff are all fantastic. I went here after being told by a hospital that I had an orthopedic issue and I was able to book an appointment on a Saturday morning - convenient! He listened to everything I had to say and scheduled me for two MRIs. When one MRI was denied by insurance, Joanne at the office was BEYOND helpful. She didn't ignore my calls or not call back like many other offices - she was attentive to my issue and really went the extra mile for me. It is appreciated beyond words. I went to Orthopaedic & Sports Associates of Long Island.My left knee was bone on bone & Dr.Mallen determined I needed a full knee replacement. He was absolutely wonderful explaining to myself & husband all about the surgery & what to expect.He is very personable & his bedside manner is impeccable-most of all his skills as a surgeon are exemplary.I have to mention John Downey-the Administrator who set up everything pre-surgery to post-surgery. A true Godsend. Thanks to the entire group.

Hello my name is Glen Polerstock and Dr. Mallen is in the process of Rebuilding my body from my Knees to my Hips i had both knees replaced 16 months ago and this April 3rd u gad my right Hip replaced need the other one done next year and after that need Major back surgery. Im truly thankful too him for building my body back up words can't express the gratitude i have for him. Im 52 years old looking forward to sonner before later will be a #Brand #New #Man. Dr Mallen repaired my mothers hip. She is 102 she was scared and was very unsure of the surgery. Dr Mallen treated my mom with professionalism and tlc he spoke all the right words and the surgery went very well. Mom came out happy and Dr Mallen was wonderful about explaining everything. I give him my highest reccomendation. Bravo.
