Dr Houpt gave my husband amazing care in diagnosing what was wrong with him. The Dr and ER staff went to work trying to stabilize him and made him comfortable… ultimately he ended up have gallbladder surgery.. Extremely grateful for his care from Dr Houpt and Hoag Hospital.

Dr. Houpt saved my mother's life. Last year she arrived into Hoag's ER after being misdiagnosed by her PCP for 10 months. Dr. Houpt's actions were swift and certain. He was able to diagnose her accurately and he appropriately escalated her care. My family found Dr. Houpt to be patient, confidently calm, direct, and caring in his own way. It is because he suspected something very bad to be the underlying cause of her condition, he correctly insisted to admit her. We are so grateful to have had him care for my mom. 11/16/21 Emergency Room at Hoag Hospital, motorcycle accident, broken Tibia Plateau, Stitches needed in Left leg. Dr. Houpt did a good stitch job on a 75 year old knee. Also he had recommended an excellent trauma surgeon Dr. Christine Siefert perform surgery. I am grateful to Dr. Houpt.

Dr. Houpt dismissed testing me for COVID-19 during the peak of increasing infection rates, and treated me like an ignorant fool for asking for a COVID-19 test when I exhibited multiple symptoms including major chest pain, after being referred to the Hoag ER by my primary care physician. He sent me home with a prescription for "anti-viral" pills and said to stay home until I felt better. After this experience, I received a bill from his office for $1200 in addition to the $2000+ of ER fees incurred for his 10 minute "visit". Great example of the corrupt healthcare system we're all subject to, where $1200 gets you 10 minutes in front of a doctor who dismisses your immediate needs with a handful of pills.

I received a COVID-19 test a few weeks later for $25 at CVS - and shouldn't have wasted my time and hard earned money at Hoag.

He did not seem caring. I was concerned about my COPD and he just wanted to get me out.

I don’t like hospitals so going in to one was not my first choice. I appreciated how Dr. Houpt was direct at explaining the process and was more than willing to answer my questions. Thanks to him I was in and out in no time, despite long ER wait times.

Not well this doctor wasn’t focused all he wanted to do was get rid of me my wbc was high he didn’t seem to care. He talked and didn’t listen

This doctor was knowledgeable and explained my boyfriends condition with clarity. He patiently answered our questions and gave him multiple tests for his condition.
