Dr .Dounchis has done replacement s on both of my hips and my right shoulder, and repaired both rotator cuffs with 100% satisfaction. He is by far the best orthopedic doctor in all of Southwest Florida. If your looking for excellence in orthopedic care, he should be your doctor of choice. Bob Burton

I had a robotic total knee replacement, went home the same day and was walking without support within a week , At 7 weeks I have 130 range of motion and am feeling great. Note that I am a very senior citizen. Pre op Nurse Karen was most helpful. The post operation treatments provided were excellent. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Thank you Dr. Dounchis for an excellent experience.

I was driving in a week! On pain meds for 2 1/2 days. Only needed two days of out patient therapy. Never needed to go to rehab. I had girlfirend with me for 4 days and asked her leave as I live alone and could manage by myself!

I had a total right hip replacement done magnificently by Dr. Dounchis on 1/27/22. It was the anterior procedure with the Mako Robotics. They also took bone marrow for stem cell enhancement as part of the recovery. After much preparation, I was admitted to NCH at 5:30 AM. A team of three people doing Anesthetics and two nursing professionals met me with precise care in pre-op. At 7 am Dr. Dounchis did a final run through and I went under short time later. That afternoon I walked for the first time down the hallway and stayed that night in the hospital. Dr. Dounchis called my wife after the surgery, visited me in the room that afternoon and came in again at 10 pm that night to see how i was doing, and talk through the right way to heal and rehab. (BTW, my nurses at NCH were fantastic.) Today is my third day at home. Yes, there was plenty of pain to go around and I did take pain killers, as prescribed, to manage it. But I got rid of the walker after day one of physical rehab in my home. Today, I walked two flights of stairs up to my home office without difficulty and walked about 1/2 mile outside my home. Tomorrow, day 4, I'll walk a mile and get on the elliptical. My goal is to play light tennis in 8 weeks and tournament tennis in 12. As for my review of Dr. Dounchis and his team, (It's always about the team) they don't fit on a 1-5 scale. I'd give them a 15. I believe DR. Dounchis is the absolute best hip specialist in Naples, and may just be the best hip specialist in the United States. His entire team is professional and committed to their customer. They are simply great. I had a total right hip replacement done magnificently by Dr. Dounchis on 1/27/22. It was the anterior procedure with the Mako Robotics. Dr. Dounchis is the top orthopedic surgeon in this entire region. He is EXCELLENT!! Brilliant, caring & answers all my questions clearly & succinctly. I have had the most excellent care, treatment, advice, skill and overall “doctoring” from him through all four of the surgeries he’s done. I have had my right shoulder’s rotator cuff & labrum repaired; later on, my left shoulder’s rotator cuff, labrum & “shredded” biceps had to be repaired. He did knee replacements on both knees at the same time giving me back full use of my knees w/o pain. The next year my right hip was replaced, further improving my walking. I did exactly what Dr. Dounchis & my physical therapy teams said to do in order to get the best results. I have no pain in my knees & hip, full motion and no problems. Both shoulder repairs were totally successful, full range of motion without pain - until I re-injured my left shoulder. He’ll do a full shoulder replacement next month because I’ve just totally wore it out.

Dr. D. may be a decent surgeon, but if you have any problem he refuses to deal with. He continued to send me for more therapy and pain management. When I finally went to Dr Robert Casola for 2nd. opinion, he found that the prosthesis had been placed too late ( the cement had dried). Dr. Casola did revision. Why did Dounchis not find the problem?!? Because of his big Ego! Beware! (He also has NO personality)

Dr Dounchis and his team did an emergency partial hip replacement at 8pm in NCH for my husband. Dr. Dounchis called me twice after the surgery at 10:30 PM because I missed his first call. He explained the procedure in detail. His Naples office is state of the art and he couldn't have been more modest on the follow up visit as we thanked him and he gave credit to his team. It was a bad break and two months later my husband has no pain and walks as he did before the fall. I'm a tough grader and I give him and his team 5 stars.

Exactly 2 years ago Dr. Dounchis replaced my left hip. I am not sure what went wrong, as I never received an explanation, but to this day I am in pain day and night and nothing can be done, no medication or physical therapy help or has helped. One leg is now longer, which requires me to wear a lift in my right shoe. In the original report, both of my legs had the same length. I no longer exercise, take dance classes, and enjoying walking and hiking is no longer possible. My life before the hip replacement is gone and has impacted my health enormously. This makes me very angry to have my life changed so drastically. I certainly would not recommend Dr Dounchis as a surgeon.

Ruthless with the syringe and terrible bedside manners. Never again! Find anyone else with better empathy for their patients. For being a “Naples” caliber surgeon I expected him to exceed the standard. He fell far short. True disappointment.

I had a total hip replacement in 2018 that was a disaster. The implant was too big and I lived in misery for almost three years until I had a revision done recently at Cleveland Clinic. Dounces wouldn’t even deal with me. He just wanted to write a script for pain meds and be done with it. No accountability for his botched surgery. He wrote in the post surgery notes my leg length was good but in reality it was incredibly off and did not improve much after recovery. I ended up with a gluteal tear, scar tissue, tendinitis and bursitis from the wrong size implant. Do not use this guy! I had a total hip replacement in 2018 that was a disaster. I just traveled hundreds of miles back and forth to Naples for Dr Dounchis to repair my shoulder. Dr. Dounchis performed a reverse shoulder replacement surgery on me February 6, 2020 - 11 months later I am still in a great deal of pain. Sadly, Dr. D could care less and has no desire to help me figure out the cause, so I am having to seek the help of other shoulder specialists out of the Naples area. He may be good with knees and hips but DO NOT go to him for a shoulder problem! He should have been in sales - he just wants to sign you up and get you on the operating table ASAP! If you have any post surgery issues (which is not uncommon with shoulders, although he never disclosed that to me!), he doesn't want to hear about it, hoping if he prescribes more and stronger meds you'll shut up and go away. After several more visits seeking help, all he kept saying was that "every thing I did is perfect, you'll be fine". Disgraceful.

Went for a minuscule surgery on my left knee, he said it was something simple and easy. But I went fine for this surgery and 2 weeks later I was in so much pain, went back to see him, he give me a cortisone shot witch didn’t work at all, and the next thing come of his mouths was. “Well you will need a knee replacement. “ why if I just had a simple surgery?” After several months with pain, couldn’t walk at all, no insurance. Dr D. he did not ask me to return for a follow up. I was so disappointed. Went to see another doctor, and got a new EMR then new doctor told me I have a died bone, probably after the surgery something went wrong. I said yes Dr Dounchis ruined my life, I was fine with my knee and left his surgery with a bad knee. Dr D. Dr Dounchis thought he could help relieve some of the pain in my knee through a little arthroscopic "cleanup." After this surgery he said I will need a knee replacement in 3-5 years. I said, "How come I didn't need one before this surgery?" I know this to be true because I had been under the care of a top orthopedic surgeon in NY who said I did not need to worry about needing a knee replacement. He said I should avoid wear on my knees like walking, golf and tennis. These happened to be my sports and exercise of choice. Dounchis is just a surgery revenue factory.

A year and a half ago I had elective total hip replacement with Dr. Dounchis. I was not yet 60 years old. The day after surgery I asked him how it went and he stated it went well, no complications. Imagine my shock when I saw a cable wrapped around my femur when I finally saw my X-rays about 8 months after surgery. According to him, this cable is a “routine” part of total hip arthroplasty. Numerous surgeons as well as the manufacturer of the cable have since told me that the use of a cable is NOT a “routine”part of a hip replacement. One surgeon told me - “in 15 years of a very busy practice I have only used a cable twice.” So... if you would like a cable wrapped around your femur as part of a “routine” total hip replacement, Dr Dounchais is your man. My recovery was long and painful. I made numerous calls to his office to complain of pain and difficulty with walking and was repeatedly told the exact same words each time by his main nurse-“What do you want us to do? Go elsewhere.” It is still difficult to simply get dressed each morning. Walking my dog is now a chore versus the joy it once was. If you are contemplating surgery with Dr Dounchis I would STRONGLY advise that you follow the advice of his main nurse and-“Go elsewhere.” A year and a half ago I had elective total hip replacement with Dr. Dounchis. THR by Dr. Dounchis. Post surgery asked how it went. “Fine, no complications” was his reply. Imagine my shock when I finally saw my X-rays and I saw a cable wrapped around my femur! He said a cable is a routine part of surgery. Other surgeons and the maker of the cable have stated a cable is NOT part of a routine THR. Absolutely the worst care I've ever received. I've had knee problems since I was 10 and seen many orthopedics/surgeons as well as worked as a medical assistant and scribe for one for 8 months, so let me tell you this guy is the worst of the worst. His bedside manner is non-existent. Didn't interact with me at all during my physical exam, didn't explain my injury, didn't explain what my physical limitations should be, didn't explain my x-rays, didn't ask about my daily physical activity or history of problems with the knee, only ordered an MRI at my request since every other time I've massively dislocated my knee I typically have some sort of soft tissue damage, did not outline any form of treatment plan to prevent this from happening again, didn't ask if I had any questions, and rushed out of the room so quickly I didn't even have the time to give him a piece of my mind. Seriously, the physician visit from start to end took 6 minutes and he just dictated to his scribe without saying a word to me. I spent more time and had a better conversation with the x-ray technician than I did Dr. Dounchis. Absolutely shameful behavior from a physician. Thankfully I'm used to these type injuries and a medical student so I at least know to advocate for myself and insist on better care but I can only imagine the hundreds of people he has let slip through the cracks. VERY obviously he is in this for the money to see as many patients as possible and not actually invest any time or energy into someone's quality of life. Also based on my previous orthopedic experience his exam was incomplete to say the least. He did a few basic stability tests, didn't ask about any tenderness along the joint line, didn't watch me walk, and did no kind of comparison to my uninjured leg. Having seen multiple other orthopedics in my life as well as assisted in hundreds of physical knee exams to say he cut corners is an understatement. Absolutely the worst care I've ever received. I've had knee problems since I was 10 and seen many orthopedics/surgeons as well as worked as a medical assistant and scribe for one for 8 months, so let me tell you this guy is the worst of the … More

I've had both knees replaced by Dr Dounchis! He did an amazing job and my recovery time was very quick. His staff was very efficient and so knowledgable. That's what you want when going through any kind of extensive surgery. Any kind of any upcoming bone surgery, I'd go to Dr Dounchis hands down.

My husband had a double partial knee replacement with outstanding results. He has regained more than 75% mobility after only 6 weeks. Some pain is still in each knee but mostly during sleep. Dr. Dounchis was great.

I don't know why Dr. Dounchis' office schedules patients for a 7:30 AM appointment, when he doesn't even arrive until 8:00.

Dr. Dounchis spends very little time in diagnosing or explanation. He recommended minor arthroscopic knee surgery to "take a look and clean things up" but he removed 2/3 of my cartilage. He did not explain the risks. After the surgery he told me I would need a knee replacement in the next 2-5 years. I had only occasional knee discomfort prior to surgery but I am now in constant pain and cannot participate in the activities I used to enjoy. I have considered filing a malpractice suit.

Absolutely the worst care I've ever received. I've seen many orthopedics as well as worked as a medical assistant and scribe for one for 8 months, so let me tell you this guy is the worst of the worst. His bedside manner is non-existent. Didn't interact with me at all during my physical exam, didn't explain my injury, didn't explain what my physical limitations should be, didn't explain my x-rays, only ordered an MRI at my request, didn't ask if I had any questions, and rushed out immediately.

Terrible wait time for appointments and surgery. No one ever answers the phone in the office and you can wait forever for a call back. In terrible pain waiting for knee replacement and was told I would have to wait almost three and a half months for surgery. Asked for medical records to help find another doctor who could do surgery sooner but never received them or even a call back from the person who was suppose to provide them. Sad to say a terrible experience all in all. Very poor service.

I highly recommend Dr Dounchis, he replaced my hip. He was extremely friendly, polite and informative. He kept me informed every step of the way, he uses the latest technology which means recovery is faster. I was walking without a stick 3 weeks after my surgery, with very few restrictions on movement. Many of the nurses and staff that I met during my hospital stay, said I was lucky to have Dr Dounchis as he has a reputation as a really good surgeon. I would use him again.

Dr Dounchis did a total hip replacement for my husband on February 3rd 2010. 5 weeks later we were dancing at the Saint Patricks Day dinner dance in our park. Hubby was completely pain free. 2 weeks after surgery hubby wasn't even using a cane. Everyone in his office including Dr Dounchis were absolutely professional and caring. Had a knee TKR that did not go well, unable to bend and extend from day one after. The nice guy disappeared immediately. He was worried about a law suit and made up negative, untrue facts to write in his reports that would substantiate a nonparticipation in my own rehabilitation. A form of bullying to be sure! I was in PA for one year after his surgery and still never gained back my range of motion. As long as all goes well, he could be considered a good surgeon, but watch his charges!

If I could give a zero star rating I would. Like others, I found him to be difficult to get information from and he was too quick to want to do surgery on my shoulder. Gave me a shot in the shoulder and left the room even though I told him I was dizzy. Went north to NY Hospital for Special Surgery because I was in so much pain (shot did nothing) and was told I had a frozen shoulder. Tried to get copies of my X-rays, told it would be $60 and would take a week or so. Zero rating for this dr.

After his assistant and xray tech saw me he came in said my hip/knee/ankle pain was coming from my back and that I needed an MRI and an epidural. As he was leaving without asking me any questions or examining me I asked about my knee. He sat down lifted my leg and said we would also get an MRI of my knee. His office never returned my call when the doctor he recommended for the epidural didn't belong to BCBS. They won't release my x-rays, will only make copies for $70. What a joke!

My right shoulder has been painful and my PCP referred me to Dr. Dounchis. (He has great creds, so I was optimistic.) After waiting MORE THAN AN HOUR i was brought in to see the Dr. He spent less than 3 minutes with me. Never examined (touched, palpated, etc.) me. Had me put my arms in 3 positions as he watched from across the room. Called for X-Rays which proved inconclusive. Called for MRI scans, at a cost to me of more than $750. I did not go. I have been to a chiropractor since and the pain is GONE. I went back to Dr. Dounchis several weeks later as my left knee was in pain. The wait this time was a little shorter, but not much. X-Rays were done and an MRI was prescribed. Again, Dr. Dounchis did not come more than 4' from me, other than shaking hands. At this second visit he did not ask about my shoulder or why I didn't follow up on the MRI. **Please** note this very carefully: The second visit was required because my shoulder is (appropriately placed) above my waist. I COULD ONLY DISCUSS SOMETHING WITH DR. DOUNCHIS ABOVE **OR** BELOW MY WAIST DURING ANY ONE VISIT. PAINS ARE NOT ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE BELTLINE? ... GOTTA COME BACK. I would appreciate a reco from anyone for an ortho doc who cares about the whole person... and doesn't mind a little contact from time to time. Apparently the thigh bone ain't connected to the hip bone after all. UPDATED 3-24-15 I just received my Florida Blue summary of expenses and on there are three charges for services that I did NOT receive from Dr Dounchis. One was for an injection of prednisone. No one gave me an injection. One was for a set of x-rays -- twice. And one for arthrocentisis... draining fluid by syringe. Again, no one stuck me with a needle. All bogus. Am following up with Blue Cross Fraud Dept. My right shoulder has been painful and my PCP referred me to Dr. Dounchis. (He has great creds, so I was optimistic.) … More
