Dr. John Phillip Ternes

Absolutely would not recommend to anyone. He is very rude and dismissive and did not know what he was talking about. When I asked him questions concerning my injury he started fussing and never answer the questions.

Dr. Ternes is one of the best doctors I’ve ever gone to… so personable and thorough. He has always given me the best advice and treatment throughout the years. When he retires, he will be missed.

Great support and resolved issue quickly

Even though it was a busier day I felt well cared for and updated throughout the process. The nurse was wonderful and the doctor took care of my needs well but quickly.

I was impressed by Dr. Ternes knowledge and quick diagnosis of my condition. I appreciated how explained what was wrong as well as how to treat it.

Had Surgery Wednesday to repair my ruptured Achilles. It must have gone extremely well because I do not remember a single thing. Thursday was painful but now Friday, two days later, and I am feeling great with little pain and ready to get after it! Thanl you Dr Turnip!

I've seen Dr. Ternes a few times. He repaired my bicep tendon, which surgically went very well, and some other minor issues. I never feel rushed when I see him and he spends a good amount of time explaining your ailment and treatment. I appreciate his professionalism and highly recommend him.

Dr Ternes did surgery on my knee 16 years ago and has been very honest about my progress and has given me options to help my knee. I will have to have it replaced one day and hopefully he will be the one to do it.

Doctors are professional by providing exceptional service taking time to go through the actual issues and options available. I never felt rushed or considered myself just a number to them. Staff was amazing too! Great experience!

Great facility and even better staff. Dr. Ternes was the ultimate professional, and was able to answer questions about my knee that I had for years. It was very comforting to know that my condition can be better without surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Ternes to anyone having knee pain.

Dr Ternes is a great doctor. He’s busy because he is good and doesn’t play games. He finds the problem and gets right to the solution. The entire group are always positive and upbeat so if you’re a morning person they won’t bring you down.

Dr. Ternes made me feel comfortable and at ease right away. He was very kind and informative. I would recommend him for anyone looking for treatment of a joint injury. He did an excellent job explaining everything to me in a way that made sense.Thank you for taking good care of me.

Visit regarding shoulder pain. Dr. Ternes was engaged (so often physicians are dismissive), and patient. He talked me through my imagery and how/why he arrived at the conclusion he did. I felt my pain mattered and left feeling confident with the treatment ahead. I would return to Dr. Ternes without hesitation.

Was able to set up an appointment 1 day prior. Dr Ternes was a great guy who asked me lots of questions to find out what was wrong with my shoulder. He did lots of “tests” to my arm and explained all the anatomy along the way. Overall good experience and helped me decide what to do next. Recommend!

Dr. Turnes was my first experience with an orthopedic doctor and I was so happy wort my visit. He is such a great doctor who will listen to your concerns (he told me he learned to listen to what his patients feel the issue is). He has great bedside manner as well. Everyone in the office was top notch. I highly recommend Dr. Turnes.

Went to him after fall in January 2019 that separated my sholder. His PA sent me for MRI and seeing doctor was the next step. The doctor said I had nothing to worry about but gave me a shot in the shoulder. NOTE: I am having surgery on July 1, 2019 to remove a piece of bone out of rotator cuff. Dr Ternes performed my first rotator cuff surgery. When I explained to him that my right shoulder was still hurting badly, after he sent me back to work, he told me that it sounds like I just don’t want to work! He did another MRI and told me that my shoulder was fine. A few days later I went to get a second opinion from Dr Perry with Novant. He looked at the same MRI results and told me that my rotator cuff was completely torn. If it weren’t for Dr Perry I would still be in severe pain. I don’t suggest him, he was rude to me, pretty much called me a liar when I told him I was still hurting. Dr Ternes performed my first rotator cuff surgery. Great doctor if you know exactly what's wrong with you already so he doesnt need to do any work. Also if you like being rushed and going home with many unanswered questions. I know doctors are busy and always overschedule themselves but it's their job to spend time with their patients and help them as best they can. They shouldn't schedule surgery so close to in office appointments if it's not going to give patients the time they deserve. They also shouldn't tell their patients that's why they dont have time for you. Nor should they berate you for asking questions and taking up too much of their time. Update: November 26th. I went to Novant Health for a second opinion. I was diagnosed with a SLAP tear. I did everything Dr. Ternes suggested including a month long round of a prescription anti inflammatory. Waste of time. So along with Dr. Ternes lack of humility in conversation, he also outright was wrong. I've been to see Dr. Ternes twice. Once last week for a shoulder injury and this week for my knee. I tried to get both looked at the first visit but he said he had two patients waiting on him at a hospital for surgery. I had an xray on my shoulder and was told it was bursitis. He did an adequate job of explaining the bursitis and reviewing the x-rays. I felt rushed though and left with many unanswered questions. I cast my reservations aside and scheduled an appointment for him to see my knee. I had an xray done and he showed me the results and ran me through some exercises/tests on my leg. He pointed to a little arthritis in the knee but said otherwise it was good. I had tried answering his questions about the source of pain and discomfort. I must not have done a good job because in a strange way he turned on me. He launched into a diatribe about him spending 15 minutes with me (not so) and me not being able to give him anything to go on. That I had told him a lot about nothing. I'm paraphrasing because he spoke fast and I cannot remember it all. It also was in front of someone shadowing him, so that made it more uncomfortable. I was surprised and had to control my anger. When he was finished, I vocalized that this was not my domain. I didn't know anything about anatomy or physiology and I did my best to describe the pain I was having. He ended up referring me to a neurologist. I still have so many questions and it really left a bad taste in my mouth. I did not complain about him there but after talking to my wife, felt I should say something. All in all, I found Dr. Ternes flippant and quite arrogant. I took time away from work both times to be there. I was there early, and am paying good money for his services. I wouldn't say he didn't help me, but the service was far from good.
