Dr. John T Stranix

I recently had surgery performed by Dr. Stranix and found that he and his team are the best!! From my experience he and his team not only took care of my medical needs, but my mental state following surgery too. They were very supportive in every way to my whole body recovery and mental stabilization following the surgery. In addition to regular plastic surgery procedures Dr. Stranix is building a great team to perform transgender procedures both MtF and FtM as a full suite of transition services.

I met JT Stranix almost 2 years ago. I am tough on medical providers as a Transman. When this man walked in the door I knew that first he would definitely be the surgeon to perform my top surgery. But I also knew he would remain in my life long after the battle scars of becoming my authentic self have healed. He performed another surgery two weeks ago. On my first visit with Dr. Stranix, I don’t even think I asked him many questions about his background because I knew immediately that he was the one for me. He told me about himself and completely put me at ease. He listened to me so that he would know what I was expecting from my reconstruction. By the end of the appointment I had complete 100% trust in him. He performed a bi-lateral DIEP flap breast reconstruction with absolutely phenomenal results. I really couldn’t be happier. Can’t leave out his awesome staff. Everyone has been so unbelievably nice. I wouldn’t have been able to navigate everything without Lindsey! He really is the best at what he does. I’m at the end of my journey and feel like I’m back and better than ever. My happy is back! LIFE. CHANGING. I will be forever indebted to him. I am honestly sad that I won’t be able to see him anymore. I feel like I’ve made a friend. He will never lose points with me (if he reads this he will get it ????) IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING CONSULTING WITH DR. STRANIX REGARDING GENDER AFFIRMING CARE/SURGERY, PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW. If you are looking for a sign that this is the surgeon you should see for your care, this is it. I had my first consultation with Dr. Stranix on December 9th, 2020. My consultation lasted close to one hour, during which Dr. Stranix spent the majority of time asking me questions about my life so he could get to know me. He validated my identity and experience from the start, with his genuine interest and care. He was thorough in his explanation of the process and procedure for the surgery, and what his evaluation for the procedure was. After our conversations, I completely trusted him, and felt confident that I would receive the best in his care. During (I believe) the second week of January, 2021, I received a call from Destiny, whom works with Dr. Stranix. She informed me that my insurance pre-approved the procedure, and that Dr. Stranix was available and wanted to perform my surgery on the 8th of February, 2021. Destiny was so kind and pleasant to speak with on the phone, and was an absolutely instrumental part of relieving so much stress which came with the logistic side of this life changing experience. I had a final pre-surgery appointment with Dr. Stranix on the 27th of January, 2021, and on February 8th, 2021, I arrived at the Monticello Surgery Center for my procedure. Dr. Stranix performed a double-mastectomy with liposuction, where he contoured my chest and did not perform a nipple grafting (my preference and request). Drains were placed on both sides of my chest, and I was provided with a compression vest from the surgery center. The vest which Monticello provided was ill-fitting and cut from a larger compression vest, which made the drains uncomfortable. I ended up purchasing my own compression vest in the appropriate style, and I was instantly more comfortable. For me personally, I was cleared by Dr. Stranix for activity after three weeks of recovery. Dr. Stranix was pleased with how everything looked and was healing, and I was over the moon with joy at the results. I again saw Dr. Stranix on the 8th of December, 2021, for a final post-op appointment, and we both expressed how pleased we were with the results. To this day, I cannot believe that I ever lived with a different chest; it feels like a distant past, and I am enjoying an invisibility in life that I could never enjoy before. Dr. Stranix, I cannot thank you enough for the gift which you have given me. By providing the compassionate care and validation which you offer through your expertise, you have given me the first opportunity to truly be myself. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Destiny, I also wish to thank you for your time and dedication to my care. Your work alongside Dr. Stranix to ensure pre-approval, FMLA approval, and finally the approved coverage once billing came around provided my family with immense peace of mind where we were once stressed beyond words. Dr. Stranix is the key component to the new Transgender Clinic at UVA. On 22 December of 2021 I had Gender Confirmation Surgery with Dr. Stranix and Dr. Corbett! I could not be happier with the results! From Dr. Stranix over tasked assistant Destiny to all the other doctors and staff assisting with this new clinic I cannot say enough how great they are. My wife had not been to UVA until the day of my surgery and when we got home all she could say was she was surprised at the level of professionalism and a sincere effort to make sure everyone was comfortable and taken care of! And the interns must be mentioned also! They all care so much not just in what they do but that the patient is sure to have their needs taken care of! An amazing surgeon. Takes time to answer all the questions you may have. He really cares for the people he treats and it shows in his interactions. Wait times to see him are really reasonable. His pre and post surgery care is amazing. He isn't a do the procedure then afterwards pass you to a student or anything for any issues or questions. He handles everything himself from start to finish. really cannot say enough good things about this surgeon. I had had to deal with my fair share of surgeons over the years and he is one of the few you can tell loves what he does and it comes out in your interactions with him. He also is willing to listen to feed back from patients even if it's not all great feed back and use it to help make the care he gives better, which we all know some doctors don't like to do. All in all this guy would get 6 stars from me if I could give them. If you have the option of getting your care from him give him a chance I promise you won't regret it.

I went with my niece to her appt for her surgery and was very impressed with Dr Stranix. He was focused on what was being said, answered each question. Made sure we knew everything that was being done. He has made sure to follow up to make sure there is no other questions and his office has kept us up to date with all steps in the insurance process. The dedication and care of Dr. John T. Stranix is above any physician I have ever encountered. I had surgery in July 2021 in which I had a significant problem in the vagina region .He explained all he could to repair the problem in a minor I understood .I was on bed rest for five days in which he checked on me daily and also his fellow team did .Every attention to detail for a smooth fast recovery was taken and to make me as comfortable as possible. I was at the University of Va. in 1974 and it was absolutely a beautiful experience to know that forty seven years later I was in the best hands with Dr. Stranix . The University is so very fortunate to have such a skilled personable leader and surgeon and I will always be grateful to DR Stanix and his team ! I plan to go back again next summer for something a little bit more fun a face lift . Who could I trust more with my face and body than Dr. Stanix ? I had never had any kind of surgery before my procedure with Dr. Stranix but all my pre-surgery fears disappeared under their care. and my results are wonderful, beyond what I had hoped. I would absolutely reccomend Dr. Stranix to anyone seeking a procedure like mine.
