John Brannan Smoot

Dr Smoot has treated my foot over the last 3 years. He is a wonderful doctor with a true concern and care for his patients. I would highly recommend him.

I had my first visit with Dr. Smoot for a year-long case of Achilles tendinitis. He gave me the most thorough exam I’ve had for the problem yet. He asked lots of questions, listened, and carefully laid out options and steps I should take. He was very friendly and engaging throughout the visit.

I was really impressed with Dr. Smoot and the Texas Ortho Surgery Center. Everyone was great: friendly and attentive. You can tell these folks enjoy their jobs! I drove in from El Paso to have my surgery here because I knew I would never get this type of service there.

I apologize as I am months late at posting this review. I first met Dr Smoot 3 years ago for knee pain. We began Synvisc injections in my knee, once every 6 months. They worked great! The injections were administered by mike, his PA. Mike is also great! On my last visit, May 2020, it was a different PA and I could not get the injection because my knee was now bone on bone. They took new x-rays and the PA examined my knee. After consulting with Dr Smoot, she comes back and tells me that he wants to do a full knee replacement. The doctor never came to speak to me or explain anything or let me ask questions. She just asked when I would like to schedule for a pre-op appointment. So I'm being told that the doctor wants to cut out and replace my knee but he can't even be bothered to come talk to me in person to tell me this? I thought he handled it very poorly and decided he was not the doctor to help me further. I have not gone back.

I had a broken toe and Dr. Smoot was able to see me quickly. He was very patient and explained what my options were. Excellent doctor. I would recommend him every day.

Dr. Smoot thoroughly and carefully examined my foot and ankle. He gave me a choice of procedures to address my issues.

The entire visit was seamless! Minimal time in the waiting room. Nurse was polite and efficient. Dr Smoot was extremely thorough and was very easy to talk to. Hopefully I won’t have to go back but if I do I feel confident that I will be take care of.

Dr Smoot has treated my husband with ankle surgery and knee replacement with a good experience. He has treated my knees, and feet. We have complete confidence in him. He has a wonderful bedside manner too, taking all the time we need.

I had a very extensive foot surgery done in February of this year. I was pretty nervous about having to have such a surgery performed, but super happy I had Dr. Smoot do it. Everything went well from the beginning and I’ve been doing my physical therapy everyday so I can get back to normal. I just reached my 3month marker and saw him this week. I’m doing great and he’s very pleased with the surgery outcome and my taking care of my foot. A good friend of mine who is an MD said that DrSmoot is the best and HE IS! I’ll go back in the Fall to get my other foot operated on which will be less. ??

Dr. Smoot took a great deal of time with me. I have substantial underlying conditions and he carefully looked at my list of medicines to assure no problems with the treatment.

Dr. Smoot’s physician’s assistant Mark saw me on February 1, , 2021. He had my feet x-rayed, examined my foot, made a diagnosis, and gave several RX’s to be filled. I got a follow up scheduled. Mark was very kind, professional, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Texas Orthopedic Sports and Rehabilitation Associates. I’ve been to several doctors in this practice. I’ve always been well cared god.

Dr. Smoot is pleasant, knowledgeable, listens, and explains all of your options. Texas Ortho also has a very cow cost MRI, and takes any doctor's prescriptions.

I've been a patient of Dr. Smoot for 12 years and have always received top notch care. He replaced my ankle, dealt with unforeseen complications, performed foot surgery and treated my knee problems. I have also had excellent results with Drs. Onan, Mukai, Martinez and Laverty for various arthritic and orthopedic issues. I'm still walking upright at 76, and am relatively pain free. Today's visit was for pain arising from my prosthetic ankle and knee.. CT scan results are pending.

He's very knowledgeable, but fully engaged *with* a patient - totally avoiding the anachronistic authoritarian stance to which many physicians fall prey. Empathic without losing pragmatic focus. Truly cares about outcomes.

Dr. Smoot is very nice and thorough. I was a little concerned at first how quickly he jumped to recommending surgery but after doing research on my own, the recommendation makes sense. The office staff is somewhat inefficient. I was two minutes late checking in to my appt because I couldn’t find parking in their very small parking lot. Two of his patients who checked in after me were taken back before me and I had to wait an hour and 20 minutes before I saw the doctor.

Second occasion to visit Dr Smoot. The quickly diagnosed and treated my condition. I feel very confident in his care.

Dr Smoot was amazing! He worked me into his schedule between surgeries to evaluate my foot injury! He was kind and knowledgeable! As a health care provider myself, I really appreciated his ability to see me on an emergency basis! I would highly recommend Dr Smoot.

I had Subtalar fusion surgery on my ankle in September 2018. One year I walked around with the bone not fusing. My daughter who is a physical therapist recommended Dr. Smoot. And I am happy to say that the bone graft he used from my hip is working!

Only few weeks into recovery from surgery too early to know results and overall effectiveness of corrective surgery. So far all is good no issues time will tell and I am satisfied as of now.

After over 2 yrs of surgery my right foot is still swollen and nerves are sensitive. Dr. Smoot can not tell me why he would not come into the exam room on my last visit. Too bad statue of limitations have expired.

Took his time to evaluate my issue and answered my questions. A compassionate doctor.

Dr. Smoot was great. He got my son in early after an injury, treated him quickly and we were on our way with clear instructions about restrictions and how/when to rehab the high ankle sprain.

Great w physician and office staff X-ray technician was efficient but not personable

I was referred to Dr SMOOT by a family practice doctor. My left foot and ankle has been swollen for 10 days but there was no injury and the cause of the swelling is still a mystery. Dr SMOOT did X-rays and spent a fair amount of time asking questions and trying to explain the cause of the swelling. He told me to elevate it, wear compression socks when possible and we will hope it resolves. A friend had this condition recently and the unexplained swelling lasted a month. Dr SMOOT was very professional but also friendly and he put me at ease. The whole team at Texas Orthpedics was very welcoming, friendly and professional. Thank you

I had such a good experience at the southwest location at Barton Creek. Dr. Smoot and his PA Mike were fantastic. My surgery also went smoothly and would definitely recommend them to anyone needing foot/ankle surgery.

I’ve had 2 foot injuries that have had me limping over 2 years. Dr. Smoot assessed everything I told him regarding past treatment for an acute strain and plantar fasciitis. He was an extremely caring listener, even though my issue was not severe. He offered all options openly. I felt so comfortable. I would highly recommend him.

Dr Smoot,and his PA Mike are very personable, knowledgeable and takes their time with their patients. I am speaking from personal experience. I was apprehensive about having surgery on my ankle. They put my fears to rest. Offered me a "pre" rehab to prepare me for the surgery so I will be prepared in advance and know what to expect beside the pain!! I will always use Texas Orthopedics and Dr Smoot with his incredible team!

Excellent. Dr Smoot is a personable, caring, professional. He explains options and consequences of any action selected. He does not rush to surgery. He removed bone spurs from my heel and debrieded the Achilles’ tendon before reattaching it to the bone. Even with complications not related to the surgery 10 days ago, I have recovered at a rate that exceeded my expectations. He kept me informed of the results of all tests even if it meant contacting me at home after clinic hours. I would highly recommend Dr. Smoot as a competent, caring, professional who cares greatly about his patients.

Dr. Smoot was great--listened attentively, reviewed previous medical records from another location and then ordered a current test for better assessment. The office is very professional and nice.
