About John Patrick Manta
Reviews for John Patrick Manta
I had a recommendation from a friend to go to Dr Manta as he had him do his knee replacement about 4 years ago and he feels Great. This was a second opinion my first Dr took fluid out of my knee three times over a year and wanted to do a regiment of shots and then injections and wanted to drag me along. I appreciated that Dr Manta took a MRI to confirm I needed replacement and I am now scheduled

If you’re a woman steer clear unless you want a misogynistic man in an ill fitting suit to bark orders at you like you’re working for him then interrogate you on your injury because work related injuries aren’t real in his mind and women can only get hand arthritis from lifting laundry detergent bottles. Apparently they just give away these doctorates because his bed side manner and knowledge of the situation he was walking into was awful and embarassing.

Dr. Manta broke my femur during a partial knee replacement. He told me that my femur broke since I have brittle bones and put me on Fosamax. I had to spend a month on bedrest to let my femur heal and, when I was finally able to put weight on my leg again, I was in excruciating pain. I went to Premier for a second opinion and they said I needed to have the partial replacement fixed. I also had a bone density scan done and was told that my bones are not brittle and I did not need Fosamax. I had Premier fix the botched partial knee replacement. They did a revision and did a full replacement on the same knee. It’s been almost three years now and I still have problems walking on stairs. My knee is definitely worse than before I allowed Dr Manta to touch it.
The staff was great, but the appointment was unprofessional and uncomfortable. During an appointment about a possible torn meniscus, he asked how many kids I had. When I said zero, he asked me why. He then asked if my wife and I were having trouble conceiving and said "that tends to happen when you wait." Somehow, this was relevant to my knee pain? The appointment felt very rushed and he told me go get an MRI and then see him for surgery and walked out the door. I didn't even know the appointment was over. Maybe I just caught him on a bad day.

I wish I could write a better review because the staff of Dr. Manta's office were phenomenal and so comforting (Zane and Bronwyn!), but I have to leave 1 star. I was referred to Dr. Manta after meeting with my PCP and having an X-Ray after a trauma injury skiing. My appointment with Dr. Manta was uncomfortable. Dr. Manta did not call me by my name, but called me 'Princess' (I am 26 yrs old!) and called my fiancé Mr. Wonderful, while also criticizing him for not being there with me as my mum had driven me (who he did not acknowledge until she asked a question). Before asking about my injury (which he didn't do at all!!), he advised that this was an ACL tear that would require surgery. Dr. Manta barely touched my leg (less than 2 seconds on top and bottom) and told me that he would bet his house that this was an ACL tear. He then advised I needed to apply for disability and that he would schedule me for surgery. He then asked if I had had X-rays done, they were already up on the screen, but he did not care to review as he felt they were a waste of time. If you can avoid Dr. Manta, I would recommend it. I felt rushed out, as though I was just a number and he gave me NO confidence in his diagnosis or surgery skills. I had no idea what the surgery is. I felt like I wasn't allowed to ask questions. While waiting for a brace to be fitted, the surgery scheduler kept popping her head in saying that she was leaving soon for the day so I didn't have much time. I went for a second opinion elsewhere who sat down with me, talked through what an ACL does, what tearing it means, how I've torn my MCL also, and how I had bone bruising which they needed to recover before they would operate so that I would have a better chance of recovery.
Absolutely horrible!!!
Dr manta did a rotator cuff operation on me.not only did he not reattach a ligament he ran a stitch through one of the good ligaments I had.witch is not repairable.I had to get operation re-done.he suggested he re do it I said no way I Allready had second opinion done and new Dr..what a BIG difference.the receptionist was pleasent but manta had no Dr patient manners.this butcher caused me another YEAR of rehabilitation.stay away from this guy.looks are decieving..it's your body but if you want it done right the first time move on.. Dr Manta is the best orthopedic surgeon I ever seen and I seen a lot. He truly cares about his patients. His staff is wonderful and office is very clean.
My Mom had pain in both knees, multiple doctors in Florida & India had recommended knee replacement surgery to left foot. Dr Manta saw my mom walk and started discussing right knee. That was a game changer, he figured out that my moms walk has disconnected her previous replaced Knee and was part of the grief.. Very impressed with is thinking and analytical approach
He jumps to conclusions before test results can prove his thoughts. Also a little quick suggesting knife before other options. Please get a second opinion before surgery with any doctor. My imaging from Fern Hill (MRI) was way off yet Manta supported findings. Two follow up doctors confirmed non-surgical options (Dr.Dodds and Dr.Roedel) and blessed to dodge a not needed knee surgery. I always have gone to Dr Manta but this time I will not go back and have found a better doctor. I went in because my knee gave out, I tried resting it but I knew I needed help. The pain was unbearable and walking was very difficult. When I started seeing him I felt that he was somewhere else mentally. The computer was in a place where his back to me and I felt unconnected from my treatment and discussing how he could help me. During the month of going to him he gave me 2 shots in my knee, towards the end of my feeling that I needed to see someone else, he was looking at his computer and turned around WITHOUT WARNING, he tried to stick his fingers Under my knee cap! I yelled, WHY DID YOU DO THAT???? He said, I had to. That was my last visit of ever seeing Dr Manta! I always have gone to Dr Manta but this time I will not go back and have found a better doctor. I have been going to this practice for years. They are a professional caring group of doctors, nurses, and staff. Highly recommended for your orthopedic needs.
We were able to get Mom in within 2 hours of my calling. Dr. Manta was gentle with my Mom who has Alzheimer's. He explained the diagnosis clearly and plan of care. Office staff was terrific. I highly recommend.
Do not receive care from Dr. Manta! I fractured my calcaneus in 2016, then developed a staph infection from infected hardware. After two irrigation and debridement surgeries following the initial surgery, two pic lines, and a wound vac my foot was still infected for over year. Dr. Manta never even sent me to an allergist so I could be prescribed the appropriate intravenous medication after the initial infection. Thankfully, I eventually sought another doctor through the Rothman Institute, Dr. Pedowitz, he did a superb job given my situation. Dr. Manta treats patients as numbers not people! I was called from the nursing home my mother resides and on a Thursday night saying that she fell and has a break in her leg/ hip area and was going to Brandywine in the morning. I received a call from Dr. Manta in the morning said she broke her hip and requires surgery and said he will call me back shortly to get consent and talk with the anesthesiologist. I get a call back from the Dr. Manta, anesthesiologists, and 2 nurses to get consent approximately 9am. Dr Manta said that he would call or have a nurse call to follow up after surgery I received no phone call after waiting all day until I had to call the hospital at 9pm. The nurse said that my mother didn’t have a full hip replacement as the Dr. told me that she would. I visited her on Saturday and no one brought me up to speed or seem to acknowledge that I was even there. Top it off I went to visit her Sunday and she wasn’t there they discharged her with out notifying me. I spoke with the case manager and she apologized and it was her fault which I accepted her apology. She said she would send a message to Dr. Manta’s office with my concern and the Doctor will be reaching out to me, never heard from anyone. This is the second time that mother has been there and released without notifying any immediate family members. Seems like Dr. Manta treats you like a number and not like a human being. I do have positive positive for feedback with Dr. Lyons he did multiple surgeries on myself and did my mother’s hip last year with no issues. Saw Dr Manta for a second opinion. Great bedside manner, knowledgeable, personality was great and just amazing doctor all together.
After a year of multiple specialists and tests we decided to try another orthopedic and found Dr Manta! Great experience-he listened to my 17 year old son and agreed something was not right. Within a few weeks he nailed the correct diagnosis. Although it was not the news we wanted to hear we got an answer to this rare condition. Surgery was the only answer which he needed to wait for school to end. Just had the surgery on both legs and hope to be on the road to recovery! Great doctor!! Caring, personable and knowledgable! Dr. Manta is a wonderful physician and I highly recommend him.
Awful customer interaction did not give me any information on what was wrong no information regarding recovery time and alternatives if something was to go wrong. I felt as though I was pushed out of the office as quickly as I was pushed in not very personable stuff and the doctor is nowhere to be seen quite rude actually. I've seen Dr. Manta several times over the years for my herniated disc in my lower back. He's always taken great care of me and tried all non-surgical options before going right to surgery for my issue. I had great success with both the injection and PT he referred me to for my back.
Our family have been patients of Dr Manta for 30 years. Our 3 grown children were all involved in multiple sports with a variety of injuries. He has always effectively diagnosed, offered options, and treated all injuries with caring, compassion and kindness. I would highly recommend this physician to anyone in need of orthopedic care. My recent experience at Dr Manta’s office was excellent. My two year old daughter broke her arm and instead of rushing to the emergency room, we called Dr Manta and he fit my daughter into his busy schedule. She was seen first thing in the morning and received the care she needed. She was evaluated, received an x-ray and cast within an hour. Dr Manta and his staff were patient, caring and attentive to my daughter’s needs and my concerns. As a parent of three young children, I was thrilled with the level of care and concern for my child. Dr. Manta was very helpful during my recent shoulder injury. I suffered a rotator cuff tear in a dirt bike accident and was in a great deal of pain. I was able to get an appointment within 24 hours with Dr. Manta, had X-rays in his office (very convenient) and was on my way to getting better. After an MRI, the tear was confirmed, and Dr. Manta, to my pleasant surprise, encouraged a non-surgical approach to healing. He took plenty of time with me to explain the findings and the path forward.

DO NOT GO TO DR MANTA if your child is an injured athlete. I do not want anyone to experience what my daughter did. She is a 14 year old upper level competitive gymnast who hurt her ankle tumbling on the floor. Our pediatrician referred us to Manta. He looked at an X-ray and said its just a sprain and told her even to wear her regular shoes.. after a few weeks, her coaches and I noticed she still could not really put weight on it and she was walking strange.. I called the office and told them I wanted a MRI- when we went to his office to have the MRI read, he never even touched her ankle and said it was just bone bruises and she could still wear regular shoes etc and come back in 4 weeks.. My gym mom friends and I thought that was strange so we went for a second opinion at CHOP- as soon as the doc there who was amazing looked at her MRI, he saw that there was a fracture and that it had been there the whole time! This is now 4 weeks later!!! The "bone bruises" were actually the injured area around the fracture. CHOP immediately casted her and put her on crutches for the next 4 weeks non weight bearing and said if she kept on she may have split the bone and needed surgery!!! Dr Manta does not care! She was just a number to him.. To me, she is my state champion gymnast daughter who works so hard training 20-24 hrs a week at the gym - this 4 week delay in her treatment has cost her the majority of her meet season!!! I also just got the radiologist report that was sent to Manta - it said clear as day she had a pretty serious fracture - and the report was sent to his office the day before we met with him! He never even looked at it!!!I have heard so many negative things since I have told people about this doctor.. I wish I had known.. I would have went to CHOP right away. I've had experience with Dr. Manta for almost 16 years. The first incident was in 2000 when my husband turned his right foot completely BACKWARDS sliding into 2nd base playing soft-ball. This dislocated his ankle, ripped ligaments, and broke the Fibula. Corrective surgery required pins, plates and screws, but he was back up on his feet and back to work within 3 months.

He completely misdiagnosed and mis treated my daughter. My daughter is a state champion upper level gymnast who hurt her ankle tumbling. After looking at an X-ray and weeks later an MRI I had to insist on getting he said she just had a sprain and bone bruises and there was no need for a boot or anything. Went for a 2nd opinion at CHOP and turns out 4 weeks later we find out it is a break and she needs to be casted and on crutches. He set her back 4 weeks!!! He just did not care!!!
