Dr. John Patrick Lagrand

Needing a post menopause hysterectomy due to vaginally bleeding, I was at a loss- my ob/gyn had retired. Dr. Legrand was recommended to me by my daughter-in-law who had, just weeks before, had a hysterectomy done by him. She was very positive in her recommendation and I can see why. Dr. Legrand is a very kind, thoughtful and straightforward physician. He explained what had to be done, but instead of a large abdominal incision, he would do the surgery laproscopically, through my navel and remove everything vaginally. The results on my end were amazing! Recovery was rapid and the only problem was that I felt too good and needed to be reminded of the invisible sutures and my vulnerability to injury if I did too much too quickly. I highly recommend Dr. Legrand to anyone looking for a new ob/gyn.

Full hysterectomy, with bladder suspension. The surgery was performed laparoscopically with only 1 external incision. The incision is around the belly button. I was very happy with the way this surgery went and would recommend Dr. LeGrand to anyone considering a hysterectomy. The bladder suspension helps keep the bladder in a good place to prevent bladder leakage after the uterus is removed, and I am very happy with the way my surgery turned out. Everything was explained in detail, Dr. LeGrand pulls up a chair and talks right to you in a way you understand. I had this surgery done outpatient, went home the same day and the recovery went very well. This is definitely the way this surgery should be done!

Dr LaGrand was amazing to work with! He is medicine and patient based. He listened, and he took my pain seriously. We talked about the different options and he agreed that a full hysterectomy was the best option. Which is exactly what I wanted. I do not have children, nor did I ever want any. He was fine with that as well. He has a great bedside manner. The staff at Advanced OBGYN are all amazing, kind, caring people. They all made this experience so much easier and less stressful. I highly recommend them for any of your OBGYN needs.

At 34, I’ve had more than my fair share of surgeries. But fortunately for me, I can say the last two were with Dr. LaGrand. From the very first consultation, he went out of his way to sit down and thoroughly walk through my history and helped me make informed next steps. When it came time for surgery, having one incision instead of three like I’d had with other laparoscopic procedures was incredible. On the actual day, Dr. LaGrand somehow had the warmest hands, held mine and said he was going to take very good care of me and helped me count backward as the anesthesia began. I’ve never experienced such genuine care at each point in the healthcare system. After surgery, he took the time to show my husband pictures and explain them throughly so all of my questions were answered. I cannot recommend Dr. LaGrand enough, he is easily the most talented, kind and empathetic people I’ve ever met.

About half a year ago I was diagnosed with numerous fibroids of which two were about the size of my fist. I also had bilateral cysts. A friend referred me to Dr. Lagrand. He performed a total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo oophorectomy. I'm very happy with the outcome. I only have one incision through my belly button through which he took everything out (by containing it in a bag and then cutting it up before taking it out). I could go home the same day. I went for my daily walks again the next day already! I used my prescription painkillers for two days and over the counter pain medication for one week. Dr. Lagrand takes his time to explain what he is going to do. During the post surgery visits I could ask him all the questions I had. I highly recommend this doctor to anyone who needs to see a gynecologist.

I would recommend him highly. He takes time to listen and explain. He did a surgery on me about a month ago, and all went well. Procedure was the least invasive option. Wouldn't go to anyone else.

I can't thank Dr. LaGrand enough for the hysterectomy he performed. I was very hesitant to have this done because I was so worried about the down time. I work fulltime and missing too much work wasn't going to be an option. The way he does the procedure it was definitely far less invasive then I had ever imagined. I definitely had to be careful and not over do it but I was back to work one week after my surgery. I suffered from VERY heavy mensural periods and they were becoming something that I couldn't manage anymore. I had to get 2 blood transfusions within 6 months, just to keep my hemoglobin above a 6. I really now wish I would have done this surgery so much sooner. If you are considering a hysterectomy at all, and Dr. LaGrand is suggesting you do one as well, please take his advice and do it as soon as you can. It truly is life changing! He has the best bed side manner and puts you at easy every step of the way.

I appreciated the service and care received from Dr LaGrand and his staff at Advanced OBGYN. Dr LaGrand strives for the least invasive surgery to promote faster and less complicated recovery. He also took the time to explain in detail the procedures performed. I had a total hysterectomy. The outpatient procedure, pioneered by Dr LaGrand, was performed laparoscopically with one external incision. I was able to return to work the next week.

I would highly recommend Dr. LaGrand. He explaines everything very throughly and answered all my questions. I needed to have a total hysterectomy and Dr. LaGrand was recommended to me. He does the surgery laparoscopially using only one incision. Using only one incision is much less invasive and I was under anesthetic for a shorter period of time which meant my recovery period was much shorter! I only needed to use narcotics for the first two days. After that, over the counter pain meds worked just fine. I was driving and back to work four days after surgery. I did work part time the first few weeks after surgery. I did get tired more easily and found myself needing to take a nap most days the first two weeks. Overall, I felt really good! I had talked to a few other women who had a hysterectomy done with more incisions and their recovery peroids were 4-5 weeks. So I was really happy with my quick recovery!

My wife and I had twins back in April. We've had four kids through Dr. Lagrand and his office. Sarah was a huge help as well. Dr. Lagrand and his staff are by far the best office in GR and I would say the whole state. Maybe the country! Our first two pregnancies were relatively normal. Sarah delivered both kids and went very smoothly. We absolutely love Sarah. Our last pregnancy was a completely different story. My wife had multiple issues throughout the whole pregnancy. Every issue we had Dr. Lagrand, Sarah, and his staff were right there with us. Talking to us at all hours of the night and seeing us on short notice. My wife made it to 30 weeks and she had to be admitted to the hospital. Both John and Sarah came to visit us multiple times. I saw Dr LaGrand after many years of trying to get other providers to believe that I had a problem. He was patient, kind and LISTENED! I didn’t feel like I was crazy or had to defend why I was there. He did a total hysterectomy for me and only 2 weeks out, I already feel better than I have in years! He explained the healing process and why I need to follow his recommendations in a clear and down to earth manner - always making me comfortable. Amazing doctor and so happy I found him.

Dr. LaGrand did a total laparoscopic hysterectomy on me April 28,2020. At my preop he was very informative and drew pictures so I would understand exactly what would happen and on the day of my surgery he went over it again. At my postop appointment today he again help me with what to expect in the coming weeks and cautioned me about over doing it at this point because I feel pretty good and drew me another picture(quite the artist). I have been pleasantly surprised at how well this has gone and Dr. LaGrand made it so it wasn't as stressful- he has a wonderful bedside manner. I have never had a big surgery like this and I can say I would definitely recommend Dr. LaGrand and Spectrum Butterworth.

Referred to Dr Lagrand by PCP because of prolapsed uterus. Did not know this surgery could be done laproscopically through belly button (only incision) and went home same day! Only on pain pills 3 days and surprised 5 at how amazing I felt. Dr Lagrand is highly skilled and knowledgeable in this procedure. Not many surgeons can do it this way. At my pre/post visits, I felt like I was his only patient and his great sense of humor made me totally relaxed. He thoroughly explained everything and did the post op teaching himself. He clearly has a passion for what he does and puts the patient first. He even held my hand until I fell asleep in surgery. I would highly recommend him to anyone because of the great experience I had!! Words to describe him: highly skilled, meticulous, thorough, efficient, and compassionate. I was referred to Dr Lagrand by my Breast Health care physician for a possible tumor on my uterus. After total hysterectomy, at age 66, preformed by Dr Lagrand, he noticed that my vagina was extremely atrophied. Yes, at age 44 I had gone through menopause. I had pain during and after intercourse for over 20 years attributed to being post menopausal. I have had the Mona Lisa procedure and it works! I'm extremely happy that I had this treatment. I was referred to dr LaGrand by my PCP due to large Fibromas in uterus. He was very nice to my husband and myself, explaining and making sure we understood everything. I had minimally invasive radical hysterectomy. Took my uterus out through small incision in belly button. It was about 4or 5 times the size of a normal uterus. Two weeks later I feel.very good. Still healing of course;). Loved the attention and dedication that Dr John LaGrand gave to my case. He is an amazing surgeon, and a very kind and dedicated healthcare provider. Excellent, Dr. LaGrand is compassionate and kind. I had laser treatments that were painful but successful, and I was very satisfied with the procedure and care that I received.

I went through about 15 years of undiagnosed and untreated pain, and had multiple doctors (and OBGYNs) literally shrug at my symptoms. It was such a relief to see Dr. LaGrand. He was the only one to validate my experience, and took the time to make sure I understood all of what could be going on. He was such a partner in making sure that I was comfortable with every step, up to and including a total hysterectomy and bilateral oopherectomy for endometriosis (turned out to be significant adenomyosis). I'm now incredibly pain-free, and there are no marks on my belly - he only made an incision inside my belly button, and it looks so normal I can still wear bikinis! I did not know you could get an organ out of my abdomen with just one incision. Plus, bonus, after 2 kids and nearing 40, I can work out again without any bladder leakage.

Wonderful, caring Dr. As a post menopausal woman I had a few concerns with bleeding , hot flashes, itching and uncomfortable sex. Dr. LaGrand explained that as you age , body parts age also. Very easy to understand and also talked to my husband. I had the Mona Lisa laser treatment done. What a difference in our sex life and itching went away. Yay. Took care of hot flashes with hormonal patch and IUD. Yes, IUD at 72. Works. Thanks Dr. Lagrand

Awesome physician! He is a pioneer for single incision laparoscopic procedures. He repaired my pelvic prolapse issues, and I experienced no complications whatsoever. He’s extremely knowledgeable and professional. I highly recommend him!

Dr. LaGrand is the most kind & compassionate OB-GYN’s I have ever been to & his skill is unmatched. I had a single incision laparoscopic hysterectomy & bladder lift at age 36 due to uterine prolapse. He spent so much time with me and my husband answering all of our questions and held my hand as I went into surgery. His genuine care and concern for me as a patient for the last 10 years is why I highly recommend him. He is truly the best!

Dr. LaGrand is a kind, compassionate and highly trained specialist. His time and care before, during and after surgery are what make him stand out from the rest. Dr. LaGrand performed a minimally invasive complete Hysterectomy through the belly button with such care that I virtually have no scarring and had very little pain. Absolutely worst OB I’ve ever been to. Not only did Dr. LaGrand make me cry at my first apt, he belittled my midwife and tried to scare me that I was “going to end up with a child who would need care for the rest of their lives” I had a ultrasound a few weeks later, that I never got results for (it’s been a month now) AND they contacted my private midwife to tell HER they were dropping me as a patient, and to not plan on going to my apt/ultrasound the next day. I had multiple surgeries with Dr. LaGrand and he was one of the best doctors I have had. He had wonderful bedside manner and helped to put any of my fears at ease. He also spent as much time as I needed at an appointment explaining things and understanding my thoughts and fears. He is the only doctor in the area I know of to do certain procedures mainly thru the belly button. His staff was wonderful to work with.

My purpose in writing this, is to let you know that Dr. John LaGrand is an excellent and experienced surgeon. Dr. LaGrand preformed my minimally invasive complete hysterectomy at the age of 65, due to prolapse. I was filled with apprehension about the procedure, until my consultation. He explained my situation and exactly what needed to be done. My surgery went well, with minimal pain. My regret, is that I waited so long. I wanted a better quality of life and Dr LaGrand gave me that- don’t wait!

Dr. LeGrand was excellent! I had a total hysterectomy and bladder repair at age 44, something I was not expecting at this age. He was down to earth, explained things well, and showed that he cared. 6 months prior to this surgery I had back surgery with blood clot complications. I was very nervous about having another surgery, but Dr. LeGrand helped me feel comfortable and at peace. I had no issues recovering and everything has gone smoothly. I highly recommend him as a a surgeon!

i am not the type of person that is great with words. but john has the best bed side manner. his great knowledge of his field is amazing. You could voice any concern you may have and he will tell you the honest facts. John has been my doctor for the last 21 years. i have had 4 kids and one dnc. my final story is ended with a total hysterectomy 6 weeks ago. he is just an amazing person inside and out. you could never find another obgyn that cares that much.

After seven months of pain and distress due to a fibroid, doctors who were not able to help me, and a failed surgery by another doctor, my friend referred me to Dr. LaGrand. He was able to remove the fibroid, using minimally invasive surgery, which wasn't an option others could offer. He is a caring doctor and excellent surgeon, and I am so thankful and relieved to feel healthy again. I wish I could have found him initially, to feel better for my July wedding however I am so thankful.

After a hysterectomy didn’t alleviate my cyclic abdominal pain, I started my own internet research. I was sure I had Scar Endometriosis. My OB said it was just scar tissue and sent me to PT. PT didnt work, so I got a second opinion with my PCP. After a CT scan came back negative, I was referred by a friend to Dr. LaGrand. I told him I thought it was Scar Endometriosis, and he agreed. He performed surgery and found and removed a mass of Endometriosis. He is an excellent surgeon! So grateful!

Dr. La Grand is a very caring person and takes time to explain in detail what your problem is and how he is going to fix it. I had a Uterovaginal prolapse which he told me was very common in elderly females. He explained what it was and then showed me a detailed diagram of what it looked like now, what it should look like when in normal position. He then proceeded to explain how he was going to make it the way it should be. He was willing to take the time needed to answer all of my questions

Dr. LaGrand is absolutely fantastic. I had been to many other OBGYN practices around the area, and Dr. LaGrand was finally able to take on my problems and complaints and help me in finding a solution. He took an extraordinary amount of time with me to explain, answer questions and ensure that I thoroughly understood what was going on. His practice and office staff are also phenomenal and incredibly responsive.

Dr. LaGrand is amazing! Very knowledgeable and understanding to patient needs. He spent close to an hour with me asking questions and just getting to know me. He eventually performed my hysterectomy using the DaVinci robot. It was done as an outpatient procedure and I was able to go home the next day. Great recovery and I went back to work after just a couple of weeks.

Dr LaGrand's care is unmatched. The first thing he asked me was how I was doing. Tell me what's going on with you? When was the last time a Dr. genuinely cared about how things were going with you and LISTENED intently. He was gentle, understanding and he believed me when I told him my essure coils were making me sick. He took care of me and I didn't have to wait six months of back and forth to get relief. Dr. LaGrand should be the standard of our Healthcare Professionals, not the exception.

I highly recommend Dr John LaGrand. Every interaction with him has been great! He is very thorough and takes the time to answer every question that I had and explained the procedure (surgery) that he was going to perform in depth along with expectations for recovery. I had surgery 1-30-2018 and needed pain meds only until the following day. My incision is only in my belly button so literally no scars! He is an outstanding surgeon, very skilled and up on the latest technology.

Dr. LaGrand was very thorough in discussing options. I had the single incision hysterectomy and needed no pain medicine other than a couple Tylenol. I would highly recommend him.

I participate in several discussion groups related to the type of surgery I had and I’ve heard hundreds of horror stories from others who’ve been in my situation. Knowing what others have experienced is proof that Dr LaGrand is a rare gem who delivers excellent care. You may think your doctor is good, but he/she is not Dr LaGrand.

Dr. Lagrand and his whole staff were very welcoming. He explained things both with medical terminology and in layman's terms. He was very thorough and talked to me like he had a vested interest, which I believe. I was very scared and left feeling totally confident in good care and abilities.

I was able to make the appropriate decisions for what procedures I needed done, because Dr. LaGrand made sure I was well informed and understood what my options were.

I have only met with Dr. LaGrand to discuss the upcoming Hysterectomy that he will be doing. He is one of the best doctors I have ever been too so I am so confident that my surgery will be handled beautifully. I wish he was my regular GP! Not many doctors left like him....

I had a hysterectomy back in 2012 and Dr. LaGrand was amazing! He really cares about his patients. He listened intensively to my Questions and concerns. I felt very well cared for by him and his entire staff. I most definitely recommend him to my family and friends should they need his expertise! He is very knowledgable in his field and I have no doubt that I am at the right place when I have needed his help. He makes you feel so at ease while he performs the exams and that is huge!
