Dr. Hicks has seen me for several years now and performed fusion and disc replacement in my neck and in Dec. 2018 a pretty involved lumbar fusion with cages. Dr. Hicks is down to earth, concerned, easy to talk to and just a great guy plus a very skilled surgeon. He's the only one I trust with my back! I recommend him highly.

I have been very pleased in my experience with Dr. Hicks and EmergOrto from beginning to end. I was a walk in looking for an alternative to the mode of care, physical therapy, that I was receiving with another local provider. I had my first appointment with Dr Hicks in one week after my request with supporting MRI. He diagnosed a pinched nerve that he could treat with surgical laminectomy scheduled within a month. The surgery procedure was same day in the EmergOrto facility in Arden, far more comfortable to me than a hospital. My recovery from the intensive sciatic nerve pain was reasonably quick and complete. I know I made the right decision to seek a second opinion and in my case surgery has proven to be the best option. My thanks and appreciation to Dr. Hicks and the entire team of nurses, anesthesia and clerical professionals who essentially changed my life by their efforts.

We have known Dr. Hicks for a few years. He has taken care of all of our needs, to include my spouses surgery a couple years ago! When I knew I could get a referral from the VA to Dr. Hicks, it was the greatest feeling to know that I was in good hands!! With an upcoming surgery next month, I feel at ease, to know this office, etc.!! ????????

My experience with Dr. Hicks has been amazing! Dr. Hicks is very knowledgeable and the surgery he provided for me has given me my life back. He has a wonderful bedside manner and a lot of useful information that will help with my condition. I will be a lifelong patient of Dr. Hicks and will never be able to thank him enough.

Wonder experience...Dr Hicks listened to my issues. He was not condescending like other drs I have recently dealt with.

Dr. Hicks is outstanding. My lower back pain is minimal after a lamennectomy surgery procedure. He is a good listener, and only recommended surgery as a last resort.

Dr Hicks is an excellent doctor and he explains everything in detail. I truly think I finally found a doctor that can help me with my spinal issues. Having degenerative disc disease and osteoarthritis can at times make you feel hopeless but I feel somewhat hopeful now.

This was my first visit and they welcomed me in. They were very prompt in getting me back and the Dr came in within 5 .in He was very thorough and interested in what I needed and answered my questions I was forwarded to the next step, an MRI and they called me for an appt the next day! I so wish other Drs and staff had their bedside manners. Thank you Dr Hicks and Staff!!

I am very fortunate to have found Doc Hicks. His professionalism, in-depth knowledge, informative nature, and expertise in his medical surgery skills is above reproach. I can not thank him and his staff enough for how they have changed my life after performing lower back surgery for Stonosis. Two rods and 8 screws later I am and feel like a new man. I no longer have any ciatica pain and my lower back pain is virtually gone. I am blessed to have him come into my life and I would recommend him to friends and family without hesitation...HE IS GOOD at his job! My follow-ups have indicated excellent growth and the removal of arthritic build up was a blessing in disguise...Thank you Dr. Hicks for allowing me to live pain free.

Excellent caring doctor

He was very straight forward about my condition. After our introductions he stated that surgery was my only option. He wasn't hard to talk to about my problem. I was up front about not understanding the seriousness of my neck problem because he was the first doctor I had seen since my MRI. He took time and helped me understand that without surgery I could very easily end up paralyzed or die because of it. This is my first encounter with him. I pray my surgery goes well.

I have been coming here since 2018. The day I nearly crawled into Dr. Hicks office he told me he was going to try and fix me. He has performed multiple back surgeries on me and was able to get me back to where I can tolerate my pain and can function as a person now instead of just existing... I would highly recommend this place to anyone who has back problems, hands down!!!

I had a spinal fusion, laminectomy and cyst removal at Pardee and Dr. Hicks was wonderful. I was in shock when I heard that I needed surgery but he was very realistic from the beginning. He figured out what no other doctor could. My experience overall was a positive experience and now, 7 months later, I’m better than I have been since my back pain started and feel very satisfied with the results.

Had never met this doctor in my life, he walks in the room, looks at his papers and says "Don't think you are going to get 2 months out of work for this"....... I don't want one day out of work... I don't want pain medicine.... I don't want you as my doctor either... Unfortunately my injury was workman's compensation so I am stuck with this very insensitive doctor who obviously has no business practicing medicine...

Every aspect of this surgical procedure was perfectly handled. From the scheduling and rescheduling by Eleanor in the office, to Dr. HIcks stopping by to see me and discuss the procedure minutes prior to the surgery, and again after the surgery to detail what was done, to his PA, Emily making several visits to check on me, it was a wonderful experience. While it's been just a few days since my release from the hospital, it seems that everything is turning out as well as expected. Dr Hicks was very professional and explained the situation extremely well with my wrist. Tendonitis was the diagnosis, steroid pack was prescribed. After 2 days nearly back to normal. Thank you Dr Hicks!

Had a 3:30pm appointment, was checked in immediately, and had a brief consult with the nurse after only sitting for less than a minute in the waiting room. I have not felt content with my past spinal doctor. Now that I have found Dr.John Hicks, I feel a great confident in my spinal doctor now. He really takes time to listen to me. He takes time in his explaining of my health issues to make sure I understand and also waits for if I may have any questions about the issue at hand. You can tell by the time he takes to sit with you ,that he cares about his patient's. They are not treated like a number just getting pushed through. I went to see Dr Hicks at 10:30 this morning and by 3:30 he had my MRI done and read, had me seen by a neurologist and had me scheduled for a possibly life saving surgery. I trust him, the response he got from his colleagues and the hospital shows the respect he has earned and he shared his faith. I will see him in surgery tomorrow and have full confidence that he and the Great Physician will do an excellent job. Dr Hicks is my go to Dr. I have been seeing him on and off for the last 7 years. He is a very caring and understanding Dr. He listens to your every word and explains the situation in details that you understand. He doesn’t blow you off and send you out the door. I over slept the morning of my appointment because of medication and was devastated. I had been waiting two weeks for this appointment. Thank God there was a cancelation for late that afternoon. The staff was respectful and understanding, but even Dr Hicks was very kind and understanding. All the staff time is worth money and that's why if you think you're not going to be there call, but when you over sleep it's to late to call. The staff was amazing. Everyone was great Dr Hicks has the best PA named Emily. She is so sweet and competent. She is patient and listens to what you are saying. You can tell she cares for her patients. Quickly checked in by friendly office personnel & after very few minutes was taken back to room for additional info & preparations for meeting with Dr. Hicks by another friendly assistant. I was taken back to Xray and again was made comfortable by technician then back to room where Dr. Hicks arrived in a timely manner. He was friendly, kind and knowledgable. Dr. Hicks performed lower lumbar surgery to relieve sciatica pain due to a bulging disc, stenosis, and spondylolisthesis. Three weeks+ out of surgery and my sciatica pain is pretty much gone. Still a little sore from the operation but that is improving with time. Have all your questions to ask him written down before your appointment. He's busy man and can't hang around while you try to remember what you wanted to ask him (I think all doctors, especially specialists, seem to be pressed for time). Having said that, he has very good bedside manner and I highly recommend him as a spinal surgeon. Also, I have heard nothing but positive comments from several sources in regard to Dr. Hicks. I believe he is a knowledgeable and TALENTED surgeon. I'm glad he did my operation.

Dr. Hicks is talented but overbooked. When he is behind schedule he has little time for you and is brusque. Thus one does not get the service one expects and leaves unfulfilled and disappointed.

I saw Dr. Hicks for an ER follow up for my ankle. He never LOOKED at or TOUCHED my ankle. He rolled his stool to my chair and started manipulating each finger bending, turning, like a Carpal Tunnel exam. I told him this was painful. He proceeded and then took my other hand and started doing the same. "No, I was going to tell you that you should stay off the computer and not google a diagnosis. I don't appreciate a physician inflicting pain in order to make a snarky, unprofessional comment.

Did a wonderful repair of my spine. Releaved my back, Leg and ankle pain with a spinal fusion. Great bed side manors and made me feel safe and in capable hands. Would recommend Dr. How icks to any one needing back surgery.

I saw him Feb. 1. I was not impressed. He basically brushed off my concerns. I wanted to ask him if he thought my condition had anything to do with severe headaches. He was in such a rush he told me to let him finish. So I just shut up. He was flippant about everyone of my concerns. I wish I had my $94 back. He was no help at all. Why would a person go to someone who doesn't take anything serious. I have cervical degenerative disease, I wanted to ask questions and.was shut down!!!!!!!!

After trying every single outpatient alternative therapy for my hip pain ( pt, acupuncture, chiropractic, dry needling, etc) Dr. Hicks, performed surgery in April 2015. The pain was intense and really was due to back problems. After repairing two slipped discs, two herniated discs and severe stenosis, I have been almost pain free. I highly recommend him. No problems since.

When I come to someone for help, it is a major thing for me. I am looking for knowledge, information, choices, education and support. When a person spends around 4 minutes with me (after waiting 2.25 hours in the first waiting room and another 20-30 in a private room), and has his hand on the door chomping to get to the next step in his day, it does not bode well inside of me. On the second visit, the appointment was the first and almost as bad. I went elsewhere.

I was referred to Dr. hicks after my car accident. After no results with physical therapy we decided on spinal fusion. 6 weeks later I have 90 percent use of my hand and arm. I will recommend him to anyone needing an orthopedist.

Dr. Hicks worked with my longtime serious sciatic nerve problems for an extended time using pain therapy and then looked deeper when the pain therapy did not bring a cure with an MRI which showed a large cyst and bone spurs. Within days of review of my condition we went forth with surgery. Upon coming home from the day surgery I was pain free and ready to move on with my daily living. I have followed healing recommendations and am fully mended from a long time painful situation.
