Dr. Bernard come coiled an aneurysm in my brain. Now it’s seven years later everything has went pretty much textbook. He communicates great, and he obviously knows his stuff. I would highly recommend him.A++++

I am very particular about who I trust my family’s care with. I like that Dr Bernard is extremely down to earth and also extremely knowledgeable. He listens to the patient and family members. I had spinal surgery performed by him twice in 2014. He is now seeing my husband. I feel very safe with him caring for my husband.

December 24,2011 I was shot in head with Glock 45 and Dr. Bernard saved my life ! I may had to learn talk , eat and walk again but I was blessed to still be here with my family and my son who was 3 years old at the time now he is 14 but im now a mother of two and i been independent on my own for 9 years now and I just want to say if you ever need a good neurologist !!! Dr Bernard saved my wife’s life . Not only is he an ultra skilled surgeon, more importantly he has caring and compassion. His communication about the diagnosis and reasons for proposed treatment are clear and understandable . Some neurosurgeons cope an attitude of I am God because I work on the spinal cord and how dare you question me. This is not Dr. Bernard. I went to have a follow up MRI at their Baldwin ave location. The entire staff from check in to check out were professional and friendly. Everything was explained to me throughout the visit and any questions I had were answered immediately. I will continue to have follow up appointments and am very comfortable with this entire practice.

Dr. Bernard is my brilliant neurosurgeon. He did brain surgery on me exactly one year ago, to successfully remove a growing meningioma. The procedure went as planned. Recovery was amazingly quick, even when it required an incision from ear to ear across my scalp. He didn’t shave more hair than was absolutely necessary at the incision site…which of course made everything easier for me. Pain management was excellent, and not even necessary for more than the first few days afterward. Bruising and swelling were minimal. His office staff, and the people he worked with in the hospital, are/were awesome . He was great at communicating every single aspect of the procedure, from preOp to postOp…and beyond (for my follow up imaging.). He even was willing to meet with me again, AFter my initial consultation…just to answer my additional questions and calm my fears. He is knowledgeable and professional, but also warm, and caring and personable. This week I saw him again….this time for chronic sciatic pain. I feel comfortable, and at ease with him, and I am confident that his plan of action will help me. Thank you Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates… for Dr. Bernard. Dr. Bernard is fantastic! He takes the time to review and thoroughly explain test results and provide viable options. He genuinely cares about “you” as a person and provides treatment plans accordingly. If you won’t be helped by a procedure he honestly tells you that, rather than instilling false hopes and having you go through surgery that won’t provide improved results. Dr Bernard is a gift from God that uses his skill to save lives. I had a ruptured subracnoid hemmorage June 30, 2009 and another developing brain aneurysm March 15, 2015. Both times he performed the necessary surgery to close the bleeds allowing me to survive without consequential disability I feel as if God led me to him and so blessed that he allowed God to use him in my survival. I went for second opinion. He was thorough and explained everything in terms I easily understood. His office notes were available for my review the following day. With this my family is able to review my condition.

Dr. Bernard and his staff are fabulous! In 2002, Dr. Bernard did endovascular stenting of a vertebral dissection and anneurysm coiling for me. He saved my life, highly recommend!

Dr. Bernard is one of the best neurosurgeons in his profession. Dr. Bernard performed my brain aneurysm surgery with coiling. The surgery went well. After a few days in the hospital, i went home without any complications. Dr. Bernard also performed my ACDF cervical surgery. The surgery went well without complications as well. He always gives great advice and has great bedside manners. He will let you know if you actually need a surgery or not. He's not going to perform an unnecessary surgery. He will give you other options first. Now he's going to perform my next surgery. I have been suffering with osteoarthritis for years now. I have bulging disc and narrowing. I suffer with moderate degenerative facet. I also have pain from sacatia that radiates from lower back to toes. My pain doctors is extremely good at his job, just out of network. After years of physical therapy, injections and pain pills. We've decided that the SCS would be my next move. So Dr. Joe Bernard is my choice again. I had a 4 level cervical fusion & bone spurs removed in June 2017 at 36yrs old. Not a very good doctor like he claims...he told me my spinal cord has dead cells and that causes my chronic pain for nine straight years!!! Dead cells do not cuase PAIN!!!!! Then he tells me he could put a rod and screws in my 3 bulging discs!!!!!!Then this doctor told me we had 10 more years for stem cell usage!! And stem cell therapy is already in use!!!!Not I repeat NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!! Great, caring, and knowledgeable doctor. Particularly in the area of neurosurgery treating brain aneurysms and other brain injuries.

Dr. Bernard performed surgery on my cervical spine when no other doctor in my area of South Carolina would even try and some were discouraging me from attempting surgery at all which was the only option that offered any hope for me at that time. Fortunately, for me, I got a referral to Dr. Bernard. All my records, MRI's etc were transferred to him and we had a consultation. I preadmitted myself to the hospital for surgery the next morning. I came through the surgery fine. I was kept overnight since I am elderly. The next morning, Dr. Bernard came in to see me and he and I discussed the next step, which was that I was home by 12pm that same day, went into my office and worked until 6 p.m. The surgery was successful, with no complications and I was treated great. I am thankful for Dr. Bernard's skills, his personality and professionalism. Since the primary care physician's and the rheumatologist advice to me was to stay close to this practice (Dr. Bernard and Associates) in the event I needed their skills for other conditions, I have followed that advice and I can say that I could not have been treated better from my own family as I have by the staff there . Dr. Bernard and all of his staff have been so amazing. After suffering from multiple back surgeries locally, I was sent him to replace my stimulator. Also I fell, ruptured a disc and he fixed that and just the past December, 2016 he did an out patient surgery fixing a small disc issue that fixed what was hurting. He is caring, efficient and makes sure surgery is what you need before he takes that route. So thankful for him! And his nurse ??

We were not allowed to see him. We had to see his PA Mike who belittled my daughter who has suffered from a bad back for 3 years. He told her it wasn't her back, but her hip, and that his daughter has had a bad back for 5 years with no resolution... Who cares!! We had already seen an orthopedist who ordered a lumbar MRI. He told me to let his assistant Amanda know when the MRI and he would look at it. I told her when it was done, and NEVER heard back from him.
