Dr. Jim B Fernandez

I am an accomplished competitive athlete. I have been a patient for years and his level of care has always been top notched. For example, his care aided me in finishing in the Top 18% of Ironman Boulder in 2014. His level of care leaves you informed and comfortable with the decisions you have to make. He is not a cut first doctor.

I was able to get in and see Dr Fernandez on very short notice. He was testing the nerves in both hands because I had quickly developed a pretty severe case of carpal tunnel in both hands. He was right on schedule, and very personable. He and I enjoyed talking about a variety of subjects while he prepared each test. His results allowed me to quickly get surgical treatment and prevent permanent damage. This was my only interaction, but it was 100% pleasant and he seemed very competent, in fact he was recommended by my personal physician who is one of the top internists in Austin as rated by his peers. Dr. Fernandez explained everything and talked through my concerns with me. The x-ray machine is down the hall and by the time you get back to the room he has the x-ray pulled up on the computer ready to discuss. I had an injection in my back, felt nothing and it has helped. Also an injection in my knee which has made walking easier. I would highly recommend him.

Fast talking Doctor who didn't seem to hear anything I said. I felt unheard and as if this Doctor didn't see me as a partner in my healthcare. I explained my condition and he repeated back to me completely different things than what I said. He just wasnt listening. He was abrupt and not warm.

I am an avid marathoner and runner who has hip issues. I have been a patient of Dr. Fernandez for several years. I cannot say enough positive things about his knowledge, ability to treat and explain my diagnosis, as well as his super kind and caring manner. He is an excellent doctor. The office overall has a great staff, runs smoothly and I am never left waiting for hours as with some doc offices. Thank you Dr. Fernandez!

I crashed my bike 4 days before my first Ironman. Dr. Fernandez fit me in immediately. Because of the care he gave me I was able to leave for Houston right after the office visit and compete in 48 hours. He gave me peace of mind knowing that I did not fracture a spinous process in my back and that I would not cause irreparable damage to myself if I could handle the pain. He gave me appropriate medications that helped me heal quickly and safely compete. His advice on deciding whether to compete and how to treat myself over the next few days was HUGE.
