I have tried to make my husband (who has no insurance) an appointment with Dr. West for a shoulder injury. They refused to see him! Apparently, because he had been seen in the ER and the notes said that it COULD BE in the neck. And they refused to see him until he seen the neck Dr that did a previous surgery (years ago). Only if that doctor sent Dr. West a referral saying that it "was not" in the neck would he then see my husband. I have had one surgery and one procedure on my shoulder completed by Dr. West. And spent hundreds to thousands of dollars at this office. At the time, thought highly of him. I knew the office had some quirky ways, but I overlooked them. But this is going too far! They even require "self-pay" patients to pay a $350 deposit before they can ever be seen. Pretty sure this is discrimination! It is absolutely ridiculous to expect someone with no insurance to see multiple doctors just to get a referral. Healthcare is too expensive with insurance much-less without it. I don't know what their deal is there, but they are NOT the only orthopedic office around. And I will never go there or send anyone else there EVER AGAIN! He’s excellent

Great dr

In 2017 Dr West performed a partial shoulder replacement to relieve a double bone spur and arthritic socket. I was assured that I would be functional and largely pain free so I agreed to the procedure as an out patient. I executed all physical therapy protocol to the letter both at the facility and at home. I felt all along that something wasn't right and mentioned it repeatedly to Dr West and in late 2019 had it re evaluated by another Orthopedic Dr. The bicep was never reattached to the tendons at the top of the shoulder and the socket is rift with arthritis. I can no longer play golf, my big love in life next to my wife and dogs. A revision is possible but the damage to the bicep is not correctable per the other Orthopedic surgeon. Terrible violation of trust and professional ethics in my view.

I had shoulder resurfacing in July of 2018. My shoulder was frozen as a result of bone spurs. I taught handicapped skiing and had numerous injuries. I had no pain after surgery and only took one pain pill. I worked very hard and was diligent with pushing hard in physical therapy. I was released from PT with out full range of motion although I hired a personal trainer. I am stronger than I have ever been and have improved my overall athleticism I am 61 years of age and am a testament that hard work in both PT and hiring a personal trainer got me back to more than 100%.

He did Rotor surgery on my shoulder- several years ago. It was fairly easy and he is always there for us. love this man. Several of my friends also went to him and were very pleased. I am getting "older" and know he is there- whew!

Dr. West performed rotator cuff surgery on my shoulder. The experience by him and his whole team was amazing. I am happy to say my recovery has been very successful. I highly recommend him.

Dr West performed rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder in 2017. He informed me that one of the tears I had was very old and could not be repaired. After 10 weeks of PT my shoulder still did not function satisfactorily. Dr West then suggested we do a cadaver graft (which he specializes in). After 10 more weeks of PT my shoulder is still very painful and my ROM is horrible. I'm now supposed to have an MRI... I'm so frustrated and don't know who else to go to. After all I've been through I cannot accept the fact that I'm not "fixed". I'm an artist and I need my arm to work as it once did. I was told from so many nurses and staff that Dr West was "the best". I'm not so sure of that. Maybe I'm just the odd man out.

Excellent surgeon

Dr. West is a excelant surgen and is very caring to make sure you get the best results. His office personal are very helpful in guiding you through your experince to get all steps through surgrey.

Dr. West is known as THE rotator cuff surgeon in the Asheville area for good reason; besides his expertise, he is kind, friendly, with a caring bedside manner. Dr. West corrected a torn rotator cuff for myself and my husband. Surgery results for both of us has been outstanding. Very little pain medication was needed.

I destroyed my shoulder doing whitewater kayaking, smashed into a river bounder which dislocated my shoulder, tore my lebrum, severed (not tore, severed) my supraspinatus rotator cuff, dented my humerus and left me with a couple of bone chips floating around. It was bad. Jay West performed the surgery, and after 6 months of PT and followup exercises (I was religious about PT), I now have full strength and range of motion in that shoulder. I can't say enough good things about Dr. West. A+

I tore my rotator cuff, tendon and bicep and Dr. West put me back together and did a spectacular job. I was in rehab the next day - had minimal post-op pain - have full range of motion and I'm only 3 months out. Not bad for my age! Dr. West is open, professional, caring, listens, and provides complete descriptions of what's going on at all stages. And he's just a great guy. Dr west performed surgery on my shoulder back in September 2016. I followed this with 8 weeks of intensive pt. I had pain and discomfort from the beginning. over the winter I tried everything to rehab it. My shoulder has limited mobility and is constantly in pain. I'm at another pt. This time for another 8 weeks. Still no success. I'm scheduled to go back to see dr west in early May. I'm concerned that he may not be able to fix it. And I'm afraid to give him the second chance.

Having just moved from Virginia, I asked friends and healthcare professionals who they recommended to repair a messed up rotator cuff. Everyone told me to go to Dr. West. Three physical Therapist told me that if I wanted good results, quick recovery time, limited pain and minimal surgical scars to go to Dr. West. The surgery was a breeze and I cant find my scars. I had minimal pain including therapy and was to 100% range of motion within 10 weeks. I was well informed of the process. Great
