Dr. Jerry Chow

Patients Beware! So many ratings of one star are a red flag. Our experience, like others I’ve read, was beyond belief. When we asked about the consequences of removing a leg tendon prior to a leg skin graft he replied, “ How should I know”…. And suggested we ask his primary care physician. He was unprofessional , flippant and unwilling to discuss what could result in the loss of already compromised leg function. We immediately got a second opinion from the head of the plastic surgery department at University of Chicago . He was strongly against surgery and recommended a nonsurgical intervention . My take is that Chow will perform unnecessary and even dangerous surgeries because he’s paid per surgery. At a teaching hospital such as u of Chicago surgeons are on staff and not paid per procedure.

His staff are great and understanding and will try to accommodate you and your scheduling especially for emergencies. He knows his stuff which is helpful but he can be a little off putting sometimes if you are not used to that type of attitudes. Overall, he is a good doctor with many years of experience.

After ignoring previous provider notes and myself Chow thought a quick 30k for a bone graft would be an easy buck. After therapy, which he made a ton on, he realized I still needed multiple surgeries to fix what he ignored. After the elapsed time to take him to court he sold medical debt falsely. I didn't take him to court so he waited patiently until the window of time closed to make a few hundred bucks. Not the motives of a good man. My husband and I have seen Dr. Chow for many different situations and have always been pleased with the outcome. He and his staff are very professional and easy to work with, we highly recommend.

Dr. Chow was a bit condescending during my consultation when I came to him to get a ganglion cyst removed, saying it wasn't that big and inferring it really shouldn't bother me. After the surgery he admitted the cyst was much larger than he thought. He did not give me any after care instructions, other than getting the stitches removed. I am now left with a large scar, and pain in my forearm after the surgery. His office also did not explain there would be separate bills form both his office and the hospital. I had sent a check to his office, but before my check was able to arrive the office sent my bill to collections, and would not work with me for a payment plan. Years later I am still paying the bills, and my credit took a hit from the collections charge.

Saw Dr Chow today for the first time. Very impressed. Had about a 5 minute wait in lobby. His staff was very friendly. He took his time with me. I never felt like he was rushing me. Highly recommend

Beware! This office cares more about collecting your money than anything. Took my 4 month old here, and it was a big mistake. Rude staff. Will take your insurance payment, then send your bill to collections before your next follow-up appointment on the books, then rudely tell you they “don’t do free medical care” when you explain that you thought you could pay them at the next follow-up appointment. It’s also 2021 and you cannot pay them online seemingly making it conveniently inconvenient. See a doctor who cares more about you as a patient. Steer clear of this office. Not another dime of my money will go to Dr. Chow.

I cannot say enough wonderful thing s about Dr. Chow. He is a kind and extremely knowledgeable physician. I was being treated by a different doctor (for 3 months) for a very bad infected ulcer on my lower leg. I was in ALOT of pain. Dr. Chow performed surgery on my leg just a few days after my first visit with him and I am now walking pain free!!! His staff is excellent!! Very compassionate and attentive to their patients. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Chow!

I was recommended to Dr.Chow by my dentist when I explained to her that I wanted a mole removed on my face. Dr.Chow got the job done. Fast and made it no big deal after going to doctors in the past who said it could never be done. He made it happen.

I wish I could give this guy and staff 0 stars. This guy permanently messed up my pinky and it’s been “repaired” by another doctor somewhat. The staff sent my bill to collections without notice, didn’t accept a payment plan while I was in college. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

Dr Chow is the best. He removed a basel cell carcinoma from my mom's cheek. She is 96 yrs young!! He was very kind, gentle, and put my mom at ease!! She is doing very well!! Would highly recommend!!

Dr Chow saved my leg three drs wanted to cut it off but Dr Chow told me if I wanted to save my leg to believe in him and we would take this journey together. Dr. Chow reconstructed my wrist back in 1999, great doctor, therapy was wonderful, although a bit long - almost 20 years, hand/wrist feels great, almost full ROM - never guaranteed. Took my son to Dr Chow in 2005, Dr did surgery in July, son back in school with no issues by September - Highly recommend his skill. Dr chow does not take time to exlplaine he jumps around like a jackrabbit. He is definitely not gentle. Almost passed out taking out a stitch that was difficult. Said nothing to do after surgery in follow up care. Called office they said didn’t he tell u what to do post surgery. Never explained after eff to which was nerve damage. Should go back to China sub zero care. Never go again by him and would definitely not recommend him

I had a left thumb joint replacement in May of 2019. The thumb responded so well that I was able to schedule a similar surgery on my right thumb in December 2019. It is now mid March 2020 and I am back to full activity with no restrictions. Dr. Chow is a gifted surgeon and a great person as well. Well respected and liked by all the hospital staff I met. His office is very accommodating and well run. I never waited for a scheduled appointment. Office staff is great. I will definitely recommend Dr. Chow in the future.

Dr. Chow is so pleasant and upbeat that I enjoy our visits. He is professional and kind and very caring. He listens to what I have to say and I really appreciate that! I would recommend him to everyone. He is an excellent surgeon and my pain was minimal. My husband will see him for a hand problem of his his own soon. We highly recommend him!

Since my pregnancy in 2004, I have been dealing with bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome. No, it wasn't an official diagnosis because I never went to a doctor for it. Fast forward to 2020 and the symptoms were so bad that I could barely use my left hand. I bit the bullet and made an appointment. The first thing Dr. Chow did was order an EMG and NCV which showed moderate to severe CTS in my left hand and moderate in my right. I thought I might be able to skirt by with cortisone shots but after discussing my options with Dr. Chow, I opted for surgery, starting with my left hand. I couldn't be happier with my decision. The constant tingling is gone and I am finally able to sleep through the night. He is straightforward and tells it like it is, which I totally appreciate. Tell me my options, the pros and cons of each and then let me make the decision. The office staff was wonderful and my wait time to see him on the day of my appointment was less than 15 minutes. I highly recommend Dr. Chow!!

After dealing with an open Venous Ulcer ankle wound for months that wouldn't heal, the wound was at a point where I was referred to Dr. Chow for a skin graft. A noticeable improvement was seen within weeks after the procedure, and now continues to close and fully heal more rapidly, with an actual end in sight. My wife and I both find Dr. Chow to be informative, patient in answering questions, and provides personal attention to addressing the immediate needs of the wound. We also enjoy his personality.

Dr Chow is an excellent surgeon. Professional and cares about his patients.

Very shady doctor. Should not be a surgeon. He never answers questions, just stares. All, 100%, about the money. I do not recommend him.

Very upfront and knowledgeable. Told me exactly what was going on and did not try to sugar coat anything which I appreciated. His staff is great and accommodating. Very pleased with my care

Would never ever recommend. Rude and just waited 3 hours for him. Office is rude and not at al helpful. DO NOT SEE DR CHOW

I would not go to anyone else, Dr Chow is highly skilled , easy to talk to and compassionate. I have never waited in his office past my appointment time to see him his staff is excellent and the appointments are easy to make.

Would NOT go back after looking at my daughters broken finger he told me to know go to physical therapist to get a splint she doesn't need surgery. He couldn't even put one on and wanted me to make appointment to go somewhere to get this minor thing done that he could have done.

I had satisfied my Blue Cross/Blue Shield out of pocket deductible by the date of my appointment with Dr. Chow and even verified it by speaker phone in front of the dragon-lady nurse. She was extremely rude to me and insisted she must collect $50. I haven’t even seen the docdor yet, but my confidence level going in is not very high.

Dr . Jerry Chow is an excellent hand surgeon. Very good experience and trust his expertise and decisions. His office staff is supportive, helpful, responsive and friendly. Highly recommend Dr. Chow

I made an appointment to see Dr. Chow,refered by a Dr friend. Showed up, receptionist Debbie Chow, refused to let me see the Dr. I made the mistake of sharring that years before I had surgery on my hand due to work related injury. Freakout time for Debbie Chow. I have BC/BS PPO and even offered to pay up front. Still "NO, I'm sorry, we cannot see you, we wont get paid." IT WAS YEARS AGO, not W.C any more. Whatever. There are other hand surgens out there and I will be visiting one of them.

I am a doctoral OT who referred a friend to this practice based on Dr. Chow's past reputation. I was dismayed to find out this person was turned away upon arriving by his wife Debbie because it was a past worker's comp injury which had no bearing on this visit. This client had BC/B PPO and offerred to pay for the appointment. When I inquired why this happen I was rudely told this client could not be seen. I find that highly unethical and can not recommend this practice to anyone out there.

Dr. Jerry Chow is the most thorough and hard working doctor I have ever met, he explains everything to you so you can understand what is taking place with your health care. I feel blessed to have been referred to him by Dr. Rizzo. I believe my medical outcome may not have been as favorable with another surgeon. Thank you Dr Chow.

It amazes me that people online want to troll Dr. Chow and his office hiding behind the computer screen. My family has now had 4 generations go to him from Breast Cancer, to lacerations, to carpal tunnel surgeries and he is nothing short of a miracle worker. To the reviewer about listening to what you wanted to do, maybe he's the doctor and might know what's actually best for your condition. I know Dr. Google automatically gives you an MD, but I would trust Dr. Chow with my life!

After meeting with doctor. I called the office to scheudel the surgery I was advised to call back next day because nurse was out of office and she does the scheduling. Deb the manager is very rude and went out of her way so that we would not schedule surgery. This office needs to be investigated she lied to my insurance company about diagnoiss and codes.

This doctor has no bed side manner and I found him to be strange in his approach. I went to see this doctor for his specialty, which is hand surgery. My overall health is good and has been good all along. He did very little examination of the area for which I came to see him, but instead chose to focus on my entire health history. He was acting like he was my primary care doctor, instead of a surgical specialist. He does not listen to the patient and I will never see him again.

The first visit, I was able to get in early. The second he was about an hour behind. When all is said and done, I can wait the hour to receive great health care. Dr. Chow and his staff were friendly and answered every question I had.

My grandmother saw Dr. Chow for a routine surgery. His bedside manner was indifferent, cold, and left us in complete shock when he wouldn't listen to our concerns. "I don't care, that's your opinion." Were his exact words to my aunt. His staff at his office were the same. When my cousin called to get a post op appointment due to concerns of an infection and severe pain, his staff said he is not available for 5 days. They refused to get her in sooner.
