About Dr. Jeffrey A Goldstein
Reviews for Dr. Jeffrey A Goldstein
Dr. Goldtein and his team were very caring. They took time out to explain everything. Communication with the doctor and his medical team were excellent and office staff was very professional. Highly recommend.
I had the great honor to meet Dr. Jeffery Goldstein in person and my life is finally returning to normal after 10 years and more chronic lower back pain and I don't even think there are enough words to thank him for everything they have done for me. Dr. Jeffrey Goldstein and his team are real super heroes in this world! I also visited a couple of countries in Europe and I was not satisfied with their way of solving my big health problem with the lower part of the spine because the recovery would take more than 6 months. Today is almost 5 weeks since my surgery and I feel fantastic! I got up on my feet on the first day after the operation and since that moment my recovery has been more than excellent because I can do things that I couldn't do before the operation. If anyone in this world can solve any problem for the spine, my personal opinion is that Dr. Jeffer Goldstein is the person who is the best at it!!!!!
Dr Goldstein and his team held my hand from the first day I came to visit all the way through to my surgery. No question or concern was too small all my fears and concerns were answers in a timely fashion and assurance. I had spinal fusion of my C3-T1. My quality of life had diminished and without this surgery it was in the decline. Dr Goldstein and his team are brilliant and restored me. It is a journey but all good things come with time and each day I am stronger and better. My symptoms of an impaired gait, numbness and tingling are gone!
My boyfriend had a surgery a month ago, he finally wakes up with no pain at all, this doctor is way more professional than any other, in my opinion. We were in Europe, went to 2 different doctors to hear the opinion, but Dr Jeffrey Goldstein was a winner! Many many doctors are coming from Europe to perform and learn from dr Jeffrey, so people who have serious problems with back or neck should def go straight to him! Thank you doctor and NYU Langone hospital!

I was shocked to learn that I had Cervical Myelopathy. I never heard of this disease, never knew anyone that had it, and never had major surgery either. I was told to handle this situation ASAP. I researched answers to the following questions: (1) What kind of surgeon should I seek (ortho or neuro)?, (2) Does this doctor specialize in my condition?, (3) What hospital is he affiliated with?, (4) Does he accept my insurance?, and (5) What patients comment about in a review? The reviews pushed me for a consultation. During this visit, I was impressed by Dr. Goldstein's confidence, congeniality, and calmness. He went over details and soothed my concerns about the surgery. I knew immediately I was in good hands. After surgery, people are always asking, "How do you feel?" I say, "Great and I don't even feel as if I had surgery." Then they reply, "That's because you had a good doctor!"
I have received wonderful results from surgery by Dr. Goldstein. I had significant pain from spinal stenosis. In 3 weeks after surgery I am able to walk more than a mile with no pain at all. Great care and after care at NYU.
Condition, lower back pain for many years and tried everything to avoid surgery. Dr. Goldstein and I agreed that Spinal Fusion was a correct choice for me. During the 2 consultations I had with him, after many questions the choice to proceed was not easy or straight foward. He will not commit to being pain free or even give percentages of success post surgery. The reason is "everyone reacts differently". What pushed me to proceed was him saying he would not reccomend surgury if he didn't feel it would help. In the end it was my decision and my decision alone to move foward. I am currently one month post surgury and he is very pleased with my progress. I am very confident that the surgury was successful but will not know for sure until everything has settled down. So far so good. BTW Chelsea his NP is awesome helping with pain management and answering questions.
Dr. Goldstein truly is a miracle worker. After suffering from intense back pain for over a year, with no relief from injections or therapy, I was at my wit's end. My wife's research into Dr. Goldstein's credentials revealed his expertise and led me to seek his help. From the moment I met him, I knew I was in good hands. My back surgery was scheduled quickly, and the results have been nothing short of amazing. After just two days in the hospital, I was able to walk into my home with ease and even managed to take a one-mile walk the very next day. The transformation was so remarkable that strangers were stunned to learn I had undergone spinal fusion surgery. I cannot thank Dr. Goldstein enough for giving me my life back and relieving the constant pain I had been experiencing. He truly is a godsend."
Everything from setting up my initial appointment, to the surgery and follow up. Dr. Goldstein, his assistant Chelsea, and all involved were attentive, friendly and actually "heard" me. Now 5 weeks after L4/L5 fusion, my pain is gone. Now I am just dealing with healing with is expected but I'm doing great. Highly recommend Dr. Goldstein and his staff!
Dr. Goldstein is the absolute very best spine surgeon. I went to Dr. Goldstein with severe back pain, a loud crunching sound coming from my lower back, and loss of feeling in my legs. I was unable to walk around the block anymore. Dr. Goldstien quickly identified the problem, and within a few weeks, in early Oct. 2022, I was going in for spine fusion surgery. Dr. Goldstein and his team were very reassuring and guided me through every step of the way, explaining what would be done. In addition, he has the best bedside manner I have ever seen in a surgeon. He fused my L5 and S1 with the rods, screws, and a cage, I thought I would be in so much pain afterward, but recovery was speedy, and within a few days, I was walking around with no issues. People I know who had a similar surgery with other surgeons were stunned at how fast I recovered. Three months later, I am 100% pain-free and active again. Thank you, Dr. Goldstein and also to his assistant Chelsea for also doing an amazing job.
An outstanding surgeon with a fabulous support staff. During my first visit Dr. Goldstein explained in detail what my laminectomy and fusion would entail and what to expect afterwards. He was patient, answered all my questions and treated me with respect. The support staff was compassionate, knowledgeable and returned my calls promptly. I am no longer in pain and enjoy walking once again.
I had such an amazing experience with Dr. Goldstein! After dealing with extreme pain, I decided it was time to seek for an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the spine. I had a large L4-L5 disk herniation which progressively got worse. I was unable to perform with daily activities like: walking, running, exercising, chores, standing for long periods of time. I would wake up multiple times throughout the night from the pain in my right leg. I was unable to tie my shoes and cross my legs. The pain reached an unbearable point. I went to Dr. Goldstein to consult about my pain. After undergoing an MRI, he provided the choice to receive a non-invasive procedure to help with the pain or surgery. I decided to follow through with the surgery. Dr. Goldstein was extremely comforting and made sure I was ok. His entire team was warmhearted and professional. Over a month out from my surgery and I haven't been happier. My pain was immediately gone! I can't thank Dr. Goldstein enough!
I had a Microdisectomy operation done in March of 2022 by Dr. Goldstein at NYU. Prior to my operation I had really bad sciatica—I was unable to walk without severe pain and was literally taking cabs everywhere to get around the city. Dr. Goldstein was very professional and upfront about the operation. He even suggested I maybe try physical therapy first instead of going through with an operation, but I chose to go forward with the operation due to how much pain I was in. I will be up front myself here, this was the most painful post op I have ever experienced, however within a week the severe pain was gone and I was already walking normally. I haven’t had any sharp nerve or back pain since the operation at 2 months since my surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Goldstein!
I spent almost the entire month of October 2021 on my stomach, unable to sit upright in a chair or on the couch due to a severely herniated L4/5 disc. My mobility had been reduced to hopping from my bedroom to the living room and taking showers on all fours. When I met with Dr. Goldstein and his team they were very pragmatic and clearly presented me with all of my options which included physical therapy, steroid injections and surgical options. Due to the severity and impact to my day-to-day from the intense sciatic pain I was experiencing, the microdisectomy surgery seemed to be the most logical option. Since my immobility and pain was quite obvious, Dr. Goldstein and his team were able to quickly find a surgery slot and things were all uphill from there. On surgery day I rode to the hospital on my stomach in the back seat of my car and literally hours later I walked out of the hospital with virtually no sciatic pain. Recovery & PT were also quick. This was life changing. Thank you
I visited Dr Goldstein about 2 months ago. I had a prior lumbar fusion 12 years ago and the level below the fusion was in bad shape. It was very difficult to perform any strenuous tasks. I was also tilted when I walked and my right thigh was in pain. Dr Goldstein was extremely professional and knowledgeable about my condition. He gave me alternative ways to perform the surgery without trying to be pushy. We came to the conclusion to perform the surgery. Several weeks later the surgery was performed. Immediately after the surgery my leg pain went away and when I started to walk the following day I was straight. Dr Goldstein and all his staff are extremely knowledgeable and sympathetic especially nurse Chelsea. I would definitely recommend Dr Goldstein to anyone with spinal issue
I had laminoplasty surgery with Dr. Goldstein at NYU Langone approximately a month ago. While this type of surgery is described a relatively common, it is nonetheless serious. That being said, the surgery was successful and the recovery was consistent with what was described to me by Dr, Goldstein. I selected Dr. Goldstein to perform the surgery because I was comfortable and confident with both him and his team. I am happy with the decision I made and would recommend him to others considering spine surgery. I also had a very positive experience at NYU Langone hospital, it is a first class facility.
Dr. Goldstein and his team are amazing. I'm 30 yo and I couldn't live a normal life in the last years due to my back pain and sciatica issues. Dr. Goldstein and team found the problem and recommended the surgery according to my situation and medical history. The whole process was not only fast but more importantly, very successful. The team was in contact with me the whole process and they answered my questions and commented with me all the concerns I might had every time. Now it is in my hands continuing a proper recovery with physical therapy and I'm looking forward to exercising now that I am able to do so again.
In the journey to get my disc pain treated, Dr. Goldstein was the first doctor to make me feel like a priority. He was exceedingly informative, caring, and attentive. Paired with his incredible skill as a surgeon, I can easily say that seeing him was the SINGLE GREATEST DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. After years of unbearable pain (ignored by dozens of other doctors/surgeons), I am finally back to doing the things I love and planning for the future I always wanted PAIN-FREE. I owe everything to him!
I first visited Dr Goldstein after I saw 2 different orthopedics. He reviewed xrays and MRI that I had with me. He advised me against the surgery and said that I have first to do 3 months of Physical Therapy and then visit him again. I did as I was asked. Unfortunately my issue got much worst. He then explained to me everything around the surgery and he recommended it. He answered all my questions honestly and did not rush or push me for anything. His office was extremely very helpful at organizing the surgery and getting all the required approvals from my health insurance. I got to work with Sonia and she is just a wonderful person and will reply to any call or email asap always willing to help. Also with Dr Goldstein there is Chelsea, his assistant. I cannot say enough good things. Professional, helpful, made me feel comfortable all the time. After the surgery I was texting her through the NUY app almost every day with questions. She was replying to me immediately. Just amazing.
Dr. Goldstein performed an Artificial Disc Replacement on my L5/S1 in November following re-herniation and microdiscetomy done by another surgeon. I was nervous going into the procedure but Dr. Goldstein and his team answered all my questions and did their best to address my concerns. Now my sciatica is gone, I feel rejuvenated and have my life back. I don't regret a thing and wish I had considered this option sooner.
After a number of physical therapy visits, x rays, mri, and other spine surgeons. With no relief in pain and all the other surgeons saying my only option is a spinal fusion, which I am not a fan of at all. Initially I was scheduled for a fusion by one of the prior doctors I have seen. I canceled a few days before my surgery date because I was scared of adjacent segment disease occurring and many other things. So i searched and searched, then I came across Dr Goldstein, I visited on 3/3/21. He and his team listened and explained my options. He was the only Dr out of many that I saw that recommend artificial disc replacement. So on 3/16/21 I had artificial disc replacement surgery on my L5 S1. I have to say it was one of the Best decisions I have made. The first month or two was a real struggle, now I’m 4 months post surgery and I feel much much better.
Dr. Goldstein performed a double micro discectomy on my lower lumbar spine, and I am 27 years old. Dr. Goldstein made me feel comfortable before the surgery, was able to accommodate my operation on short notice, and had zero complications. I do wish I was better aware of the recovery time (I was told I would be able to "walk out the same day" which was technically correct, but I wasn't prepared for the amount of pain I would be in and the lack of mobility I would have for the first few days after surgery). That said, I did have spine surgery, so I probably should have known. Dr. Goldstein's office was always available for my post-op questions and I appreciated the NYU MyChart app which allowed me to easily send questions and receive prescriptions, etc. Great bedside manners and would recommend to my family and friends.
My experience was quite positive. Although quite busy, he always came with the relevant information in hand. He was well informed and a skillful surgeon. His staff always was positive and helpful. For someone already 86 years old, I had confidence that I had made the right decision.
Absolutely the BEST.
Dr Goldstein is the best of the best. He’s saved my life twice. 15 years ago he was able to repair an old military injury to my spine so I could return to work and be active again. And recently, he saved my life again by repairing another terrible injury to my neck. I have been to many doctors and hospitals over the years. And Dr Goldstein along with his office staff and the staff at NYU are amazing! Thank you Dr Goldstein and the nursing staff at NYU.
Dr Goldstein and his team saved my life. Spinal fusion had been a surgery which frightened me above all others and to note, I had as a young man, survived brain surgery to resolve a growing cancer. This surgery was complex and had followed two prior surgeries over the past year to address the advancing osteoarthritis which stole the use of my hips from me, age 53. Over a decade of ever increasing narcotic use coupled to conservative modalities had ultimately failed. I never felt rushed, coerced nor any other feeling other than empathy while under this teams care both pre and post-operatively. The recovery was longer that I had anticipated and uncomfortable. I returned to work at 20 weeks. Now close to six months post-surgery, I am relatively pain free with the use of medication though my narcotic use is greatly reduced. I have lost over 50lbs of weight and continue my physical therapy at home and at a clinic 2x weekly. My only regret is not having found Dr Goldstein and team, earlier.
I am now one month out of lumbar diskectomy and decompression L3-4, with only positive results to report. My experience with Dr. Goldstein, and his team at NYU, was characterized by professionalism, patient education, accessibility, and technical success. I had been unable to sit down and was suffering from debilitating sciatic nerve pain. After examining me, Dr. Goldstein was able to perform surgery. His NP, Chelsea E Havelock answered all of my questions pre-op and post-op with detail, expertise, and care. The procedure was flawlessly executed and I was up and walking the same day, the results are amazing. The leg pain I had been experiencing was gone as soon as the surgery was completed. One month into the healing process, I continue to have no pain and feel only the most gratitude and respect for this team that has restored my health and quality of life. Would recommend it to anyone.
Easy to make an appointment with instead of jumping through hoops like other surgeons/doctors. Office is always responsive to all my concerns so that’s great with follow ups and one of the many reasons I would recommend Dr. Goldstein to anyone in my situation. I had to get a micro discectomy due to a severe disc herniation in my lumbar spine. He may be straight forward but he tells you exactly what needs to be done and executes it very precisely. I am only a few weeks post op but I feel like he gave me a new chance of life. His doctor and his nurse practitioner, Chelsea made the follow up appointments so easy and I felt like they are genuinely happy to see their patients thrive after surgery. Thank you for everything!
From my first initial telephone call to the post operative visit Dr Goldstein and his team (especially Chelsea) are very professional and attentive. Every step of my examination and surgery was fully explained to me and they couldn’t have asked any more times if there were any other questions. As for the surgery I went in with constant sharp pain in my lower back into my legs and after the surgery I’m pain free. I would highly recommend Dr. Goldstein spinal disorders/injuries. Thank You Dr. Goldstein and Staff
I have been suffering from lower back pain for over 10 years and have tried everything under the sun to relief it. I finally went to my Medical Dr. and he referred me to Dr. Goldstein. Dr. Goldstein ran all the test and was able to tell me what he can do for my case. He explained and answered all my question. His staff is also right on point by following up with me every step of the way. I am so glad I had it done! I want to thank to the following people whom took really good care of me: Chelsea E Havelock, NP, Sonia Lorme, Maxine J. Chuang and everyone at the NYU Hospital.
I am a retired U.S. Navy Veteran who flew in from Puerto Rico to obtain a second opinion concerning a lower lumbar surgery procedure that I required. After speaking with Dr. Goldstein about my health condition, I immediately felt as if I was placed in the right hands and the right location to have my surgical procedure preformed. Dr. Goldstein and his extremely professional staff proved my decision to proceed with the surgical procedure to be the right one. Dr. Goldstein delivered all medical services as promised. His staff and the staff of NYU Langone Trinity made my hospital experience feel less medical and much more like family caring for family. For this I will be forever grateful. Special thanks to Sonia, Chelsea, Luis, and Joanna from the operating room. I would never hesitate to highly reccomend Dr. Goldstein his staff and NYU Langone for optimum medical care.
I had a 2-level cervical disk replacement with Dr Goldstein. I feel like a new person after years of pain and discomfort. He and his team were phenomenal start to finish. I first saw them in July and now I have a “new” neck. All of my symptoms from the blown disks and pinched nerve are gone. It all went so smoothly and I am very grateful.
I recently had spine decompression and fusion surgery with Dr. Goldstein. He and his care team were very supportive and kept me informed before and after the procedure.
I HAVE MY LIFE BACK AGAIN!!! Six weeks ago I had spinal surgery performed by Dr. Goldstein. I’m no longer experiencing 24/7 pain. Dr. Goldstein and his team honest, friendly & thorough. A++
My husband had been dealing with the progressively debilitating and painful effects of spinal stenosis for many years. A possible hereditary pre-disposition as well as 30 years of military service led to almost constant pain and his inability to enjoy life. He was desperate. Enter Dr. Jeffrey Goldstein. Many things impressed us about this fine surgeon. He did not push surgery. Once my husband opted for surgical intervention, Dr. Goldstein was forthright when explaining the procedures used. It was an easy decision albeit a scary one, of course! Over a month later, after his spinal fusion, my husband is doing exceptionally well. He told me this is the first time in years that he's not been in pain. My husband was in good health prior to the surgery so this had an impact on his healing, but only by way of the skilled and compassionate hands of Dr. Goldstein do we believe there has been total correction of the stenosis and subsequent healing.
I had back pain so severe that I would cry at nights. It was unbearable. When I got an appointment with Dr. Goldstein, I did not know what to expect. His Nurse Practitioner, Chelsea was very attentive. When Dr. Goldstein came he listened, reviewed MRI and X-rays, and suggested minimally invasive microdiscectomy. From the first meeting, surgery and the last appointment I was treated with respect and dignity. Dr. Goldstein has very professional staff. Dr. Goldstein is a great doctor.

I came to Dr. Goldstein with great pain in leg and severe problem in my spine. Doctor explain me every option of treatment and advise me that the best option to help is surgery. I was scheduled for nearest day and right after surgery, pain was gone which made me very happy. After month pass by I am fully recovered and very thankful to Doctor Goldstein and his team. In additional, perfect timing with every appointment, full attention of every member of Dr. Goldstein team and especially nurse practitioner Chelsea help with every question i had I highly recommend Dr. Goldstein to everybody, who needs solution with serious problem with spine.
As a lifelong athlete, I was no longer able to do the physical activities that I love. After research to find top spine surgeons in NYC, I contacted Dr. Goldstein's office. I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis L4-S1. Dr. Goldstein explained I was a candidate for lumbar fusion L4-S1 and was very optimistic he could help me. He explained how he would perform the spinal fusion. Feeling very confident in his plan, I opted for surgery. End result: ALIF L4/5, TLIF L5/S1. I'm 6 weeks post surgery, feeling and moving great, pre-surgery pain is gone, physical therapy ahead of schedule. I highly recommend Dr. Goldstein, he is a leader in his profession, compassionate, exudes confidence and has a great sense of humor. His NP, Chelsea, is very knowledgeable, personable and responsive to all questions. Sonia & Ranie were wonderful in dealing with insurance company and scheduling. I am very thankful to Dr. Goldstein, his team and NYU Langone Hospital!!!
I had severe cervical spinal stenosis with the pain increasing due to he herniation of the lower two cervical discs. I went through all the recommended drug and physical therapy but the improvement was always of short duration with the situation worsening shortly afterward. Dr. Goldstein agreed at that point that surgery was the only option that could bring me relief. He and his staff were thorough in explaining everything to me and I agreed to have the surgery as soon as possible. I went into the hospital at 11 in the morning a week later and was home by 9 that same evening. Incredibly the pain I had been suffering from was completely gone by the time I woke up from the surgery and the numbness and tingling had been reduced by 90% and even that was gone after 2 weeks post surgery. Dr. Goldstein and his staff were very attentive in following up with me and I completely recommend him for anyone considering this surgery,
Dr. Goldstein performed decompression and spinal fusion. He gave me my life back 19 years ago. So grateful for having found him.
Dr. Goldstein operated on my lumbar spine in 2003. He is an excellent surgeon. I now live in Las Vegas . I needed further surgical intervention. I had the surgery performed here in Las Vegas by a local orthopedic spine surgeon. It is almost 2 years out from my surgery and I decided to contact Dr. Goldstein to review my case. Since the surgery was performed, my left lower back down through the groin and just below the left knee is numb. I am experiencing neuropathic pain and cannot sit for long and can no longer drive comfortably. I now have to walk with the assistance of a cane. I saw a pain management specialist. He could not help me and referred me back to the original surgeon. I decided to contact Dr. Goldstein instead because I have a lot of faith in him. I was once told in the NYU-HJD that he was one of the best surgeons in New York City. I emailed the office and was contacted the next day and was asked to send the CD's of the imaging and reports. In less than a week, I had an televideo appointment with Dr. Goldstein. He reviewed the CAT scan that was ordered by the surgeon here in LV and saw the issue immediately. I have scheduled a date for surgery at NYU-HJD for the end of September. Dr. Goldstein operated on my lumbar spine in 2003. He is an excellent surgeon. I now live in Las Vegas . As a physician myself I did a lot of homework before selecting a spinal surgeon. Operating around the spinal cord is delicate and I wanted an experienced doc. Dr. Goldstein and his team were outstanding. I had a multiple level laminectomy and was relieved of severe sciatic pain immediately. Every step of the way from initial consultation to hospital care and follow up could not have been better. In addition to his phenomenal technical skills Dr. Goldstein is a personable clinician who gets to know his patients as human beings not just back cases. Chelsea, his NP, also was so attentive and competent. I hope I never have to have back surgery again but if I do I would not hesitate to have Dr Goldstein be my doc.
I went to see Dr. Goldstein after too many months of suffering from terrible sciatica pain. I tried to manage the pain through other avenues but it only got worse. Dr. Goldstein and his Nurse Practitioner, Chelsea, looked at my MRI, X-rays, examined me and explained how a discectomy would be the best course of treatment to alleviate my pain. Dr. Goldstein was so sympathetic to my situation that he got me in for surgery the next day, he recognized I couldn’t keep living with that kind of pain. The treatment, care, and follow up from Dr. Goldstein and Chelsea were exceptional. I emailed Chelsea many times and she was always super responsive and helpful. What started off as a very scary situation that was affecting all areas of my life was made so much better by these amazing professionals. I honestly can’t imagine being more thrilled with the way everything went and am truly grateful to have received such fantastic care.
I had a microdiscectomy with Dr. Goldstein and everything went absolutely fantastic. My leg pain was gone immediately and after a month I was back to all more daily activities. Thank you Dr. Goldstien!
Thank you to Dr. Goldstein and his wonderful staff; I cannot thank him enough. I had sudden terrible back and leg pain for weeks, I was limping, and could not believe the sudden bad quality of life that I was enduring. Dr. Goldstein provided me my options and explained the risks and the benefits. I elected to do the surgery and I do not regret it. The hospitality and treatment was impeccable. My mother was reassured throughout the entire process, and was even called after surgery by Dr. Goldstein. I have never met a physician that cares as much as he does about his patients. He took the time to understand what was going on and was patient and reassuring with myself and my mom and I appreciated that.
I was having severe back pain with acute left leg pain. I visited Dr Goldstein and after diagnosis and MRI was found to have a herniated disc and a pinched nerve. I had a minimum invasive surgery which was a Microdiscectomy. After surgery I’m amazed that I’m pain free and now able to walk . Dr Goldstein has tremendously improved the quality of my life as now I can resume my normal activities. His professionalism, knowledge and care assured me that I’m in the right hands. I’m very grateful for this doctor. I must also mention Nurse Practitioner Chelsea Havelock whose utmost professionalism, knowledge and care removed any anxiety I may have had prior to surgery. My visit was thus one of full assurance and confidence.
On May 25th, 2021 I visited Dr. Jeffrey Goldstein for the first time. This was a second surgical opinion for me. I waited over 20 years to have my neck repaired because I was so afraid of spine surgery. I felt so comfortable in the first 5 minutes that I decided right there he was my surgeon. He fast tracked me through pre-surgical testing that same day and my surgery was scheduled for June 9th. Fast forward 4 weeks, I've had my follow up and all is doing well. My biggest take away was WHY did I wait 20+ years and live in pain when there was such a competent and skilled doctor right in the city. Do not wait, life is to precious. I am very happy to report all of my neck pain is gone, no numbness and tingling down my arms any longer. NYU was also amazing, organized, caring and compassionate. I've had over 10 major surgeries so have a fair amount to compare to. You will have surgery pain for the first week but that is easy to accept when the rest of your life will be pain free.
I had a spinal fusion surgery, performed by Dr. Goldstein in February 2021. This is the best decision I have ever made for myself, and has improved my life tremendously. I had been experiencing sciatic pain for over 4 years and had not found a treatment to fix the issue. Prior to meeting with Dr. Goldstein, I had been 2 physiatrists, had done over 3 months of PT, and steroid injections. I decided to visit Dr. Goldstein, to get a surgeon's opinion. Making the decision to get surgery is not easy, but Dr. Goldstein and his nurse practitioner, Chelsea, were excellent at explaining my injury and answering all questions that I had in regards to the surgery. The surgery went excellently! I had a quick recovery and was walking outside after only 2 weeks post-op. It has been almost 4 months since my surgery and I have no more sciatic pain, which seems like a miracle. I am able to go to the gym, go on long walks and enjoy doing physical activity again. I cannot thank Dr. Goldstein enough!
Had major lower spine surgery. Great doctor with a great staff ! Very knowledgeable and caring. Highly recommended !!!
After having chronic leg pain due to nerve infringement in my lumbar region I decided to have a laminectomy done by Dr Goldstein in December 2019. He told me this was not a major surgery and I would most likely be fine in 3 months. A few days after the surgery I developed a nasty colitis that was diagnosed after 12 hours at the ER. Over the next several months I had over 40 physical therapy sessions but my leg pain is still present. Then in the beginning of August both of my feet became partially numb which was very upsetting. I decided to have a new MRI which indicated a greater degree of disc protrusion and stenosis at L4-L5 and L5-S1. I was told by another spine surgeon that the three level laminectomy from Dr Goldstein was too aggressive a surgery for my problem and I should have had a more minimal procedure based on an earlier MRI I had in August 2019. I am currently going to a chiropractor and getting some relief from a DXR 9000 spinal decompression machine. I wish I had gotten a second opinion before having had my surgery. I recommend a second opinion to anybody that sees Dr Goldstein. TODAY is the 1 year anniversary of lumbar fusion L3,4,5. Dr. Goldstein is a very skilled surgeon, (and he also has a pretty good sense of humor). His office and staff are 100% professional and efficient. PA Chelsea always responds to questions immediately. Special Shout Out to Sonia -surgery scheduler, she is amazing and caring. I went for a consult 6/1/20, crying in pain through the whole appointment. She was able to schedule a 6/16 surgery. I stayed in NY and LI with my daughter until then. She scheduled all the tests I needed at the most convenient locations, and made sure I was ready to go. After surgery she was able to help with contacting 'the pain dr' and emailing PT scripts. I have a new lease on life and I am soooooo very grateful. I can walk miles vs. 10-15 ft. I can sit through a meal with my family. I can rough and tumble and lift my grandchildren. Life is good. Thank you Dr. Goldstein.
One of the rudest people I have ever met in my life. I came in for a second opinion on a possible non-union of L5S1 fusion. Because I made him aware that I was seeking a second opinion, this child then sarcastically told me that “he is a Spine Surgeon.” Then a few dismissals and quickly out the door. Somehow he has won an award for compassion. Compassionate is not a word I would use to describe this person. Arrogant, nasty, childish are more fitting.
It was a blessing for me to be in the best Health care of Dr. Goldstein with his team . All my question were answered , and my low back surgery was a success Thank you very much!
Dr Goldstein and Chelsea Havelock have both been extremely attentive and caring in my surgery and recovery. I had a bad L5-S1 herniated disc that was causing pain and numbness all the way down my leg and was preventing me from walking or standing for very long. Dr Goldstein repeated that I would walk out of surgery the same day and I had trouble believing it but it was true. It has now been a month since surgery and I'm regaining my strength. I couldn't be happier with my decision.
Dr. Jeffrey Goldstein is a highly talented miracle worker. I had a severe case spinal stenosis could hardly walk up to his office the first time we met. I also was diagnosed with neuropathy which made extremely difficult to walk. it was necessary for me to purchase a walker to use in my home. He operated on me in April with in 4 weeks I regained my ability to walk in my home with out a walker. I am pain free and my neuropathy is gone.
I had spine surgery in March 2021. Prior to the surgery, I had severe spinal stenosis at level L4-L5. I couldn't walk properly and had significant pain in my legs. For over a half year, I tried everything I could to avoid surgery but nothing helped and ultimately, we decided that surgery was the only option, and if so we had to go to the best. We heard great things about NYU and Dr.Goldstein and the experience was even better than expected. My surgery went as well as can be, and next day I already felt all the symptoms disappear. I could walk with no pain in my legs. The recovery was smooth and shortly after I could walk and drive, and was back to my regular life. We are grateful to Dr.Goldstein and his staff. They were very professional, attentive, and always available. I felt very secure in their care. Highly recommend to anyone suffering with similar problems and worried about the consequences, like I did, to consider the surgery with Dr.Goldstein.
Terrible
Dr Goldstein was fantastic, as was Chelsea. My improvement I can say 12 months later has been magnificent (but not linear!). I met with Dr Goldstein at the end of 2019. My condition was annoyingly elusive. For several years hip extension at ~90 degrees would cause a sharp pain in my lower back, affecting one leg and then the other. I would "pass" most SLR tests with a "large angle". I've also had tight hamstrings and sciatic nerve tension. One day I was jogging lightly and felt the electrical sensation of a herniation. Over the next 6 months I developed a strong limp and any mild hip extension would aggravate it. I had extreme pain when trying to walk normally, when sneezing and when standing up from a sedentary position. Inversion gave it relief for 10 seconds before but no long term benefits. At the very end the pain became a dull discomfort lying down too. Dr Goldstein worked his magic and I'm so relieved to remember what normal feels like, and to not have to brace for a sneeze.
Just came home from my 7 month follow-up visit with Dr Goldstein after cervical disk replacement surgery. My recovery is going very well. Dr Goldstein showed me today’s X-ray and explained how it showed that replacement disks were growing properly.
No. He is more concerned about booking operative appointments than health and safe of patient.
I was referred to Dr. Goldstein by a co-worker. I’m so happy I chose to have him do my surgery. Positivity and uplifting words put me at ease about the procedure and recovery. I’m back to work and doing great. Sometimes I even forget that I’ve had neck surgery at all. Over joyed. Thank you Dr. Goldstein !!!
I had severe leg pain due to spinal stenosis. Basically, I could not walk. Other surgeons proposed elaborate laminectomies with front and back incisions and 3-4 spinal fusions. In contrast, Dr. Goldstein proposed laminectomies via minimally invasive surgery and a single fusion. During the procedure, he decided that my spine was more stable than indicated in the imaging and therefore no spinal fusions were necessary. His comment was "treat the patient, not the MRI." This decision was huge! I am now 100% pain free and able to walk for an hour or more 4 weeks after the procedure. Because fusion was not performed I did not need to use a back brace, and no rods or screws were installed in my spine. Dr. Goldstein and his staff were respectful of my time, 100% professional and available to answer all of my questions. Langone Hospital where the procedure was performed is ultra-modern and the nursing staff were superb. Five stars out of five!
I HAD EXTENSIVE SPINE SURGERY ON JULY 2021, THE RESULTS WENT BEYOND MY EXPECTATIONS, DR. JEFFREY GOLDSTEIN AND HIS TEAM OF PRACTITIONERS PERFORMED AN INCREDIBLE JOB, I AM BACK TO ENJOYING MY EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES WITHOUT DEBILITATING PAIN. I WAS RECOMMENDED TO DR. GOLDSTEIN BY A GOOD FRIEND, NOW I RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE I KNOW. EXCELLENCE AND PROFESSIONALISM SHOULD BE RECOGNIZED AND THAT IS WHY I'M WRITING THIS REVIEW.
After a misdiagnoses by the emergency room in Jersey City, even with unbearable pain from my lower back to my toe and “foot drop,” my Jersey City urologist recommended Dr. Goldstein. I called for an appointment Monday; was seen by Dr. Goldstein Wednesday morning (he was in surgery Tuesday); I had an MRI Wednesday afternoon; was called by Dr. Goldstein Wednesday evening with the MRI results, a course of action and a lengthy conversation regarding how to navigate the hospital for admission before the surgery was even scheduled; and, had an emergency discectomy Thursday morning. With regard to my experience, Dr. Goldstein demonstrated tremendous knowledge and patience thoroughly explaining my condition, surgery and recovery, which was reassuring and put me at great ease. Though very calm, he displays passion, knowledge, confidence and a bit of humor. Further, besides excellent surgical skills, he is demeanor exudes empathy and compassion. I am fortunate to have seen Dr. Goldstein.

Outstanding from start to finish. I came to Dr. Goldstein after months of pain. The experience at his office was brilliant. No wait time and it ran like clockwork. Dr. Goldstein provided me my options and explained the risks and the benefits. I elected surgery. Today I had my surgery. The process at the hospital also ran like clockwork. The facilities were state of the art. The staff were friendly and professional. Dr. Goldstein personally came to see me after surgery to tell me how things went and also phoned my fiancée personally. He has done all the hard work for me. Now it’s over to me to heal. Outstanding from start to finish. I came to Dr. Goldstein after months of pain. The experience at his office was … More
This doctor is a quack. Came to get my spine checked and this doctor said I could either ignore it or go to physical therapy. My spine is curved and rotated and that's all he could tell me. It sounds like he doesn't take his job seriously. I would give it a no stars if I could but it won't let me. Very unprofessional.
He performed his professional duty accordingly but the prejudicial comment was completely inappropriate and crass.

I've had two surgeries with Dr. Goldstein, one 18 years ago (neck) and an L4-L5 fusion one year ago. Both surgeries resolved my very severe pain, weakness and numbness issues 100%. I traveled from Florida for my second surgery because Dr. Goldstein is the only person I trust to handle these life-changing spinal procedures. Words are not enough--thanks Doc! I first saw Dr. Goldstein for a problem with my neck, which I feared might necessitate surgery. I remember Dr. Goldstein smiling and saying "I love to cut, but only when necessary." I am eternally grateful that he helped me to avoid a surgery that I did not absolutely need. As luck would have it, I may now require his services for a complicated and displaced compression fracture of my spine. But I am soothed by the trust that he will explore all options and give me the very best advice I can have. After months and months and months of suffering the pain was so bad I literally would cry myself to sleep at night hoping for even an hour of relief. 3-4-5 Advil, physical therapy, a painful epidural shot and acupuncture nothing helped. The pain was just awful. I was unable to function. My daughter did some research and found Dr. Goldstein. Dr. Goldstein did not beat around the bush, if you want relief there is only one option back decompression surgery. The pain was so bad at this point I would have agreed to anything. My surgery was scheduled at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital two weeks later. The surgery was a success. The hospital staff was kind and the nurses were amazing. I was on pain medication around the clock but I already knew this pain was different from my pre-surgery agony. This pain was more of a tired numbness. I was released from the hospital about 4 days later. My first week home was hard. I felt stiff and tired. I would say it took about three weeks before I started feeling myself again. I believe with all my heart that I shouldn’t have waited so long to have the surgery. I should never have let the pain get so bad. This surgery bought me back to life. Thank you Dr. Goldstein! I had surgery for spinal stenosis in March, 2017. Dr. Jeffrey Goldstein and his staff were amazing from the start. He is a brilliant surgeon, and NYU speaks for itself. I would not only use him again, if need be, but would refer him as well. I want to post my full name because I stand by my word, Judy Coppola
