Dr. Jean Dorthy Hermsen

I had a surgery consult with Dr. Hermsen that went well. We booked surgery for 2 moths later with really no contact in between. When I received my auth from insurance the surgery approved was something much more in depth and removing more than discussed. I tried to call and ask, and the nurse said, "I think your removing the uvula". When I called the day before surgery to get my check in time, I asked to speak with Dr. Hermsen to verify only my uvula or also my tonsils. I received a call later from the nurse only saying I had to many questions, and they would not do my surgery. I was also driving 12.5 hours across country to be home to do this. When I called the patient care team to get a better response, the surgeon still refused to speak directly with me. Now I need to find a new provider. There were also very minimal post-surgery instructions provided "you'll have a sore throat".

Rude, condescending, snarky. She actually rolled her eyes when I asked a question.

Dr. Hermsen did a great job on explaining my problems and how she could help me.

Dr. Hermsen was verbally cruel, yelled, and demeaning to the patient for a decision they made. I highly recommend finding someone else to do any ENT work.

My relative went in for a consultation for a small bump on the neck. The doctor was rude, dismissive and condescending. She said a choice that my relative made about a health care choice "was wrong" and was near yelling at the patient. As a health care provider, you can offer your best opinion and information but ultimately the patient decides what is best for them. Under no circumstances would we ever darken her door again. If you need an ENT, find someone else lest the decisions you make for your own care are demeaned and degraded. She either needs to find a different profession or get some help for her personal issues.

Dr. Hermsen is fantastic. I have seen her for the last several years for both post-cancer care and chronic sinus issues, and she's always kind and efficient. She also removed both of my young children's tonsils, and was kind and wonderful with them. She's knowledgeable, friendly, and really thinks about the situation at hand to find the best solution. I have had many, many ENTs over the years - my type of cancer is incredibly rare, and she is one of the very few I've found who are very knowledgeable on the subject.

dr hermsen had a very bad bedside manner when i took my son in for his hearing test. she was rude and barely spoke with us. Her patient care was disappointing so i found a different ent.

refused to call Iowa Total Care insurance for a peer to peer review. This was to get my medication covered. Then canceled my appointment 3 days prior to surgery. Find another doctor that will advocate for your health.

Would not trust this doctor for advocating for your health. She canceled my surgery because I simply asked to call my insurance for a review.
