My wife and I flew in from South Carolina to see Dr. Tanyi last week regarding her tumor. We found him cold and harsh in describing her condition and options. When a patient is facing bad news, a doctor should explain with compassion and caring. He proposed surgery with little hope of a good outcome. He offered no alternative to surgery except to say she will die without it. My wife describes him as soulless and I agree. She explained to him that she had numerous blood samples drawn in two other hospitals and wanted to minimize any more. He was misleading in asking for a release of tissue which we agreed to, only finding out later that the wanted numerous blood vials filled for their research. He then wanted to do a vaginal inspection and I told him how sensitive she was there. He then took a sample that hurt her and a week later she's still very sore there. After more tests were done, he wanted a cardiologist to look and a colon doctor as well. Neither were around so they wanted to set up future visits. Maybe it's time for him to retire. My wife called later that day with her decision to not proceed with the surgery. The nurse called back a little later to say they wouldn't operate anyway due to her EKG results. All in all, a terrible experience we won't soon forget. Never take your wife to this doctor.

I've never met a doctor that had so little time to spend with his patients. He contradicts himself on a regularly basis. I would recommend looking for a doctor that has time to list and explain. Dr. Tanyi actually took the notebook I was writing in from my hands and wrote everything down in his cryptic doctor handwriting because I was taking too long with my note taking. The staff at Penn may have cutting edge technology, but it's a cancer treating mill that moves people in and out of treatment like cattle. Find a place that cares and has good medicine.....you'll do better in the long run!

My sister was misdiagnosed at Penn. Dr. Tanyi treated her with chemo for ovarian cancer, based on recommendations made by Penn Radiologists and a Penn GI oncologist, before performing any additional testing such as biopsies. This caused complications and a delay in correct treatment for what was colon cancer, not ovarian cancer. Her correct diagnoses was made after the incorrect chemo regime failed. While Penn is a beautiful facility, the doctors do not appear to work as a team to ensure that patients are getting a thorough evaluation before a correct diagnosis is made and treatment is started.

Dr. Tanyi treated my sister for ovarian cancer on the recommendation of a Penn Radiologist MRI report and a Penn GI oncologist, before doing any further testing from a GYN ONC perspective. She was treated with chemo until she had a complication. It was then that Dr. Tanyi ordered a biopsy that showed colon cancer, not ovarian cancer. The original diagnosis from the GI department was correct but ignored. While Penn is a beautiful facility, the focus doesn't seem to a team approach to diagnosing and treating.

Dr. Tanyi is great. The Doctor is so smart, and explains the complexity of the issues which at times seem insurmountable. I am so happy to have Dr. Tanyi as my physician.

Very easy to talk to and very knowledgeable .

I met Dr Tanyi on August 3rd. I had a Granulosa tumor on the ovary which had been removed a few weeks before my visit. I was very pleased with his caring attitude. he explained everything to me and I feel confident about my treatment. I'm glad that he is my doctor

Dr. Tanyi is very kind, compassionate, and down to earth. He seems genuinely concerned about his patients and takes his time with them, explaining everything and answering questions. He is also very knowledgeable and forward thinking when it comes to cancer. I really trust him.

Dr. Tanyi is the kindest and most compassionate doctor I have ever had. I trust his professional counseling as well as his expert care.
