Outstanding surgeon. She is caring But most importantly you can trust her with your life as she saves my parent . Make prudent ethical decisions based on great training and expertise .

Please tell me how to set up a patient portal with Dr Janett Gaw.

I was referred to Dr. Gaw by a wonderful Gastroenterologist, whose opinion I respect. Before seeing Dr. Gaw I went online to review her history, credentials, reviews and find out a little bit more about her...I was impressed. On the day of my appointment, I was nervous but anxious to meet with her, to get to the bottom in an attempt to resolve an ongoing 2 year issue following a hemmorhoidectomy. After walking into the exam room and introducing herself, I smiled and remarked that it was nice to meet her to which her immediate response was... 'Wow, why are you so happy when I'm about to look at your butthole!' To say that I was surprised at such unprofessional behavior is an understatement. I thought maybe this was the way she broke the ice with patients who seemed nervous about such a private matter or a way to put them at ease...although not appreciated and unorthodox to say the least. As we began to talk and she asked me about my current problem and medical history, I noticed that she avoided eye contact with me almost the entire time, looking only at me sideways from her peripheral view as if she was embarrassed to look at me or in an attempt to give me privacy. She is a colorectal surgeon, an established and supposedly well respected doctor, so I found this very odd and disconcerting. There was definitely a disconnect because of this and I found it very strange...I have never met anyone, especially a doctor who acted in such a manner. Before the physical exam started, she asked some questions regarding my surgery. I provided her with the answers along with some information that 2 other prior Gastroenterologists had given me, diagnosing me with Stenosis. Without examining me, she said she doubted I had Stenosis. I had 2 doctors make this diagnosis and all the symptoms associated with this, but okay. She said she would take a look. At this point I informed her that the last visit with my Gastroenterologist involved an in office exam where a Proctoscope was used and that it was so painful it brought me to tears and the doctor could not continue. She said she understood, started her exam, used her finger to in the beginning and the proceeded to use a Proctoscope, which I immediately asked her to stop doing because it was so painful. As the office visit went along, she made a couple of additional very unprofessional comments when asked about serious questions. For example, when asked how a specific condition would be treated after the non-surgical route was taken if that did not accomplish our goal for healing to which she remarked 'You're never going to have a perfect 15 year old butthole again!' and did not answer the question. Wow! One last comment before she left the exam room set in concrete that this was not the doctor for me. She instructed me on the pea size amount of cream I was being prescribed to use daily. She said a little went a long way and that "if I used to much I would be walking around in wet underwear all day because I would be uncontrollably squirting in my underwear!' Wow, the level of unprofessionalism was astonishing and disappointing. I had hopes that she would really be able to help me, but I could not continue down this road and trust that I would have the level of care everyone deserves. My advice to anyone who is referred to her or who finds her online while looking for a credible doctor in this area of specialty is to not waste your time with Dr.Janette Gaw. She appears qualified and professional and even normal on her website but this was not the person I met during my first visit. She was the MOST unprofessional and weird doctor I have ever met who made me feel uncomfortable. I hope this helps.

This Doctor has a habit of performing unneeded surgerys to make money. Happened to me. Dr Janette Gaw is a terrible surgeon who left me needing surgery to correct her sloppy work.

I had a torn colon and needed a colostomy, which was iffy if it could be repaired, but Dr Gaw restored me to normal health. She is a fabulous Doctor and has a great sense of humor, which at the time of my problems I was unable to appreciate due to self pity. I recommend Dr Gaw totally

Was referred by my gynecologist. When I visited her, I saw a nurse, a PA, then the doctor & someone else. I paid my co-pay, only to receive a bill for an additional $110.00. I disputed with the DR & insurance co. I was never told I'd have to pay more money. She charged me with surgery. I had no surgery. She did an internal. She is very unethical, as is her staff. I would never recommend her. She is quite rude, which is notated in other reviews. She is a disgrace to the profession. If I was going to owe more money, I should have been advised at that time. I had no surgery, I believe I would have known that, but that is how she marked it down & the insurance company didn't dispute it. I also didn't appreciate seeing 4 people for one issue which was embarrassing as it was. When I was leaving the room, she was talking to the PA about me & rolling her eyes. She didn't realize I saw her, unethical & extremely unprofessional. If you don't mind being mislead & mistreated, this DR is for you.

She was explicit in describing the process of my procedure and has great bedside manner. Wonderful surgeon!

I saw Dr. Gaw for the second time after 2 years and 4 months with the hope she would reconsider and perform a reversal of my colonostomy. Her question when she entered the exam room was, "Why are you here again?" She actually raised her voice to me when I asked questions. People could hear her in the hallways and surely the waiting room also. Horrible, unprofessional bedside manner. I was in tears before I left the exam room and cried all the way home. What a horrible bedside manner.

Dr. Gaw is a very caring and compassionate physician. She was referred to me by my gastrointestinal doctor. She took time to explain all of my options for my problem. Went over all the pros and cons of surgery. She did not try to persuade me to have surgery. I was treated with medication and my problem was cured. Since then I have recommended her several times to my friends and family.

Dr. Gaw is professional in all that she does. She identified a mass on a earlier colonoscopy which was performed in Indiana that should have been removed 3 years prior to Dr. Gaw finding it. Dr. Gaw tested it and it was unfortunately cancer. She performed a surgery to remove the cancer and sent me to several specialists to get second opinions on how to proceed. She helped me seek second and third opinions on best course of action after the surgery. I am indebted to Dr. Gaw for saving my life!

I had been diagnosed with Colon Cancer. I was more than a bit nervous but began researching credentials of Florida Colorectal Surgeons along with asking my nurse and doctor who they would see. I was referred to Dr. Janette Gaw. My operation went very well and there is not a day that goes by I am not thankful for having been sent to Dr. Gaw. I feel she is why I am alive today.

My procedure was very quick and easy, she was very attentive and got to me within minutes. I was in no pain and she explained what she was doing every step of the way. She was very knowledgeable as she had a response for every one of my questions. She made me feel so comfortable with what she was doing. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!

Dr Gaw was over one hour late for our appointment. When I stepped out of the room to inquire about the delay I found Dr Gaw reading the patient file. Obviously she does not prepare for her appointments. In our discussion she tried to tell me that the patient's most recent pathology report had indicated cancer when I showed her the complete colonoscopy report with photos she then stated that she was wrong. Her only surgical option is the belly method very unprofessional. A grad from Yale??

No bedside manor, little communication, woke up on a soggy wet pad, colonoscopy preformed in November 2015 but STILL think of it. A very negative experience.

Whether I would refer family/friends would depend on the experience they prefer. Most DRs I talked to said she's a great surgeon. But my experience was that she has no bedside manner or regard for patients' questions. I had surgery and a colonoscopy with her. She went on vacation after my surgery without mentioning it, left my post op to a resident, my release to her PA who forgot about me and went home and I didnt' see her for 2 weeks. Colonoscopy same thing - discharged, never saw again.
