Dr. James Len Smith JR.

Very disappointed with the Doctor. Will not see him again. First time patient with Dr Smith due to back pain consisting of "pinched nerve" on the right side and dull pain on the left side. Took x-rays and had a diagnosis with the Dr. The Dr. could not diagnose my cause of the pain, said the x-rays looked fine, and scheduled me to physical therapy. I am very disappointed that he did not want to do any further examination/diagnose of my back pain, particularly the cause of my back pain. He didn't really seem interested with my questions and concerns. He wanted to milk me for all he can by sending me to physical therapy without knowing the cause! Don't be fooled by his exterior as he presents himself as an elderly experienced physician. He is just another Dr. trying to make as much money as possible!

Dr. Smith is not just one of the best orthopedic doctors, he's one of the best doctors period. I would recommend him for any member of my family or friends.

Dr. James Smith is an excellent listener who inspires the patient’s confidence by giving detailed information and the best plan to tackle one’s orthopedic concerns. I’ve known him for 23 years, and have always had great respect for his medical expertise.

This is an amazing Doctor/Surgeon, he walked my wife and I in detail throughout the entire process, we didn't have very many questions because he was so thorough with his explanations. Bottom line is my back went from constant pain to near perfect and of course pain free.. I highly recommend Dr Smith for any of your surgery needs.

I just saw Dr Smith yesterday (May 11, 2022). Dr. Smith was recommended to me by a friend who has had extensive treatments for his back problems. I had high hopes that I would get straight answers and the best advice from him, and I felt that I did. He explained in detail what was going on in my lower back by showing the MRIs and X-ray and pointing out exactly what is causing pain, tingling and numbness. I am going to see him again in about a month or so with a whole new list of questions. It appears that right now, surgery is in the offing, since PT was not effective in the longer term.

Outstanding bed side manner. Listened!! Asked me questions and listened to the answers. A spine surgeon who said I didn’t need surgery! Pleasant and personable. My HIGHEST recommendation

Dr Smith was simply put AMAZING! I went in for a second option and he explained everything to me so well. Like I could actually understand what was going on. He’s very lighthearted and funny which made me feel so much less stressed during my visit. I went in almost in tears and left with a smile on my face because I felt heard and understood as well as with a plan.

This man has saved my life. I’ve struggled with back pain for years that progressively got worse. I first met Dr. Smith in 2017 after my primary doctor kept saying I just had a pulled muscle in my back. I found out I had a herniated disc and two bulging discs. From 2017-2020 I got worse. I had a total of four epidural injections and three MRIs. I went to the hospital in Sept. because I was in so much pain and couldn’t walk. l was put on heavy pain medicine for over a month until Dr. Smith performed a discectomy surgery on me in Oct. I went from pain to pain free instantly. From being in a wheelchair to walking. Dr. Smith is the only doctor who listened to me. He is very easy to talk to and makes visits light hearted with humor. He’s intelligent, but will answer any question you have in a way that is easy to understand. He’s very thorough and will try all conservative methods first before surgery. I can’t say enough good things, but I thank him everyday for giving me my life back.

Dr. Smith performed an L4-L5 fusion on my spine 5 months ago and I am now pain free. Prior to surgery, I was having sciatica down my right leg such that I was finding it increasingly difficult to walk or do any kind of exercise. He is easy to talk to, has a nice sense of humor, and most importantly, a skilled surgeon.

Dr Smith & staff were so professional. He instantly set me at ease and truly cared about my physical pain. I hope he never retires.

I was a little nervous coming into my appointment however there was no need. Dr Smith has a playful banter to break the ice and put you at ease. He listened to everything I had to say and didn’t brush me off or rush me out the door. He took the time to show me my films and explain what we were looking at and put a course of action plan together that did not involve surgery. I honestly could not have been more pleased. I wouldn’t hesitate to return or refer others to Dr. Smith.

Dr. James Smith was a God-send! He is a good listener & genuinely cares about his patients! After we tried every option to relieve my pinched nerve/herniated disc, I had to have a disc replacement surgery. He is very knowledgeable & has a good sense of humor! He took really good care of me! He personally called to check on me 2 days after the surgery, and his office staff periodically checked on me later on. Top notch care! I recommend him to anyone needing relief from pain!!!!

I can highly recommend Dr. James Smith. I had a severe bulging Herniated Disc. Dr. Smith worked with me to do everything short of Surgery to correct the situation. I had an X-Ray, an MRI and a Steroid injection in my Spine. But I was able to avoid Surgery. On my final visit, Dr. Smith recommended some Rehabilitation Exercises. I'm now doing much better and can recommend Dr. Smith as a knowledgeable Orthopedic Surgeon.

Dr Smith is very personable and seemed knowledgeable. I told him that I usually go to a chiropractor but I needed extra help. He wisely suggested I photograph the X-ray to show the chiropractor which was a very smart suggestion and much appreciated. Dr Smith suggested I start exercising to build strength. He gave me medicine to help with inflammation so I could do that.

Dr. Smith was by far one of the nicest and most knowledgeable doctors I’ve been to see. Considering the horrible pain I was in when I went to see him, I left with a smile on my face. He came highly recommend by two friends and I have to say, I highly recommend him as well. I’ve never had a bad experience at TX Orthopedics great facility and staff as well.

Dr Smith is quite simply an extraordinary physician. His manner is superb, he is confident without arrogance. He always made me feel that my treatment plan was in my best interests. Always takes the time to ensure you understand what is going on and what your options are. I have the utmost confidence in his knowledge, skills and abilities and couldn't imagine allowing any other doctor treating me better.

Dr Smith was very good at listening to understand exactly the pain I was experiencing. In addition, he made me feel like I was part of the treatment team. I am often offended by Doctors who don’t listen and brush me off and tell me what I’m feeling. Dr Smith is true professional in every aspect of my visit. I would highly recommend him.

ALWAYS! HE IS A VERY, VERY PHENOMENAL SURGEON AND DOCTOR! Even after having not seen him for several years he remembers things that most Physicians and surgeons seem to forget. Will always go to him for my cervical spinal needs and will always recommend him to friends!

Initial visit was promising.

Explains in layman’s terms so you totally understand your situation. Best part of all is his CONSERVATIVE approach to any condition. I respect that and his promise to get to the problem but not until all avenues have been discounted. A doctor who doesn’t jump to surgery as a first and last means is my kind of doctor! I highly recommend him...5 stars worth!!!!
