About Dr. James William Roy
Reviews for Dr. James William Roy
My insurance is NO LONGER paying for visits over the internet or virtually. I have called and went by the office twice and the staff flat out states they will NOT see in office patient's. This is absolutely ridiculous as I have no control over insurance or the doctor refusing to see someone unless it is virtual.
I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea and Dr. Roy was very knowledgeable and personable when reviewing my case. He went over all the options available and made sure I was comfortable with the decision we made. I would highly recommend him and his whole staff to those seeking answers regarding their sleep habits.
Update from earlier review. Dr Roy called me personally to address my concerns. He gave me a direct number to call in the future. I do appreciate that he called to apologize for what happened. We agreed to start fresh. Going forward I am hoping for a much better experience
DRIVE TO VANDERBILT or UAB!! In over 7 years of being a patient, I have spent a total of 30 min w/ Dr. Roy. His NP’s and staff do the work and handle most patient contact. I received a notice that he is no longer my physician due to an unpaid $75 bill that was sent to a wrong address w/o a single phone call or warning - a bill I was happy to pay had I known. Did I mention that I hadn’t actually seen the doc in over 4 years? I’ve actually been seeing a new doc and can’t adequately express the contrast. Again - minimal physician contact w/ patients not worth the time. It’s a shame too - his staff is excellent.
Dr. Roy never returns calls. He does not follow through on an agreed plan of treatment. Upon calling his office there is at least 5 to 6 minutes of holding time.
If you need a sleep doctor go find another one don’t waste your time with this quack. I decided to find another sleep dr and my new sleep dr said Dr Roy’s diagnosis for me was incorrect. My new dr told me before he even repeated all my sleep test that he didn’t trust Dr Roy. He referred to Dr Roy as a joke. Dr Roy is money hungry
The staff is very nice. I Love how they took care of me
I was recommended to see dr roy, he recommended me to used thE c pap machine, i tried for a few days but see nothing different but my nose hurting so bad and my throat so dry, i called to talk one of the male nurse, he told me to bring the machine back and try new option getting something better, when I brought the machine back i asked them if i have to pay anything, she told me i have to pay $150 for restocking fee or if i keep the machine i have to pay $400 something , but then few week after that they still sent me a bill $397, i called again to question the bill, now they told me different, they said i have sign the paper that if i return the machine i have to pay that, none of them told me anything about that, they just told me sign the paper to get the machine, i fell so stupid that i have to sign without knowing anything, i am been ripped off, this will be my big lesson
Dr. Roy was a great help for me in getting my sleep disorder problem corrected. He explained exactly what was needed in by case. His staff was very efficient in helping me get all info needed to get all equipment that needed in my case.
The staff is terrible. They cancelled 2 of my appointments with less than an hour's notice.
The Medical Doctors in this office are okay but not great. They are definitely in the business to make money. They are eager to assign patients to a Nurse Practitioners unless you insist on a Medical doctor.. The office staff are not friendly or welcoming. They seem to be there only for the income and interacting with patients is just a necessity of their boring job. My last 2 visits to the office were very frustrating. My appointment last week was at 1:40 pm. I had completed the 100+ questioner in their office the prior visit when I had to wait an hour to see the Nurse Practitioner. The office has sent a link to complete additional questions online (I completed their forms before arriving). I arrived before my appointment time and stood waiting to check in while one staff seemed to be chatting with a friend and the other window had a client that was trying to straighten out something and stayed there for over 10 minutes. Finally, the girl chatting on the phone eventually checked me
Excellent experience with Dr Roy! He listens and asks thoughtful questions. He is personable and easy to talk to. He shows compassion and really cares! I recommend him to anyone who is frustrated with their sleep. He really does help.
I’ve been to every specialist you can think of trying to figure out what was going on with me and wanting to improve my quality of life. Dr. Roy involves me in my health and actually listened to what I had to say. He was companionate about what we both had to say and really showed he cared. I’m finally on the right track of getting better and being happier ! I am so thankful for him and his staff for helping me so much. You wouldn’t believe how much sleep can effect your everyday life. If you even think there’s a slight chance your sleep is affecting you or you just can’t quiet put your finger on what’s going on, give Dr. Roy a shot !!
Went by the office to make an appointment they said I needed my records. I signed a paper to release records. They were never sent. Then they called me for a consult visit no mention of records. Told them I did not want to use their office for lack of follow up and very disorganized. Then an hour later someone called and they said they had my records which was not true because my Doctor never sent them because they never received. This goes back to the disorganization. No thank you on ever going too this Doctor.
Everything I visit Dr Roy’s office, I wait in the waiting room for at least an hour after my appointment time. If there was another pediatric sleep doctor in my area I would go there, just because of the lack of respect of patient time.
Called for an appointment and was seen the next week. Office was busy but was able to see the doctor fairly quickly and they helped me understand what is going on with my sleep problem. Receptionist worked with my crazy schedule to arrange next steps. Felt they respected my situation and tried their best to help me. Overall very pleased with my experience and looking forward to some better nights sleep.
Doctor Roy goes above and beyond for his patients. I went to Dr Roy for a second opinion. No one could figure out why I was so tired all the time. I had a second sleep study. I found out I have narcolepsy. The other Drs I went to just put me on a bunch of different medicines that didn’t work. Dr Roy diagnosed me with narcolepsy. He prescribed me xyrem. It has been life changing for me. I’m so glad I went to Dr Roy for a second opinion.
I personally had an excellent experience with Dr Roy. I even recommended that my granddaughter see him for her sleep issues. He and his staff are very patient and will work with you to make sure your sleep issues are resolved.
I couldn't ask for a better doctor and nurse. They actually paid attention to my complaints and cared. I finally am seeing the results of treatment even though I was reluctant at first! Dr. Roy is a godsend. No more struggling to stay awake at work or when I drive.
as a former employee I get to see the inside of how the Roy’s run their business. Dr Roy is the rudest, most narcissistic doctor I have ever met. he has a filthy mouth, is rude to patients but especially to staff. he cusses at his patients but more often at his employees, please find another sleep center. it is unbecoming of a doctor to act the way he does and we hear everything he has to say about everyone when they leave.
Please try another sleep center. Office was not forthcoming in providing actual costs for treatment or equipment. They only showed me what the bill "could" be for my equipment before insurance but did not attempt to provide me with a realistic estimate of my cost after insurance. They didn't even offer that much information regarding number of tests & office visits (and associated costs) that would be required. Confusion on 3 occasions as to equipment status & requirements. Go somewhere else.
Consistently get called back 25-35 minutes after my appointed time. Disorganized. Colossal waste of patients time.
Could not get appointment by calling would be put on hold for long periods. Had to leave a message on the website to get an appointment when the office called I was given appointment in another city. Took 1.5 hours to get there due to traffic and his office couldn't give me directions but told me while being 10 minutes away that the doctor would not wait for me. I do not recommend this doctor
He told me that I didn't need sleep.
Rude disrespectful and very unknowledgeable waited 3 hours past apt
I didn't even get to see the doctor because I had already been devalued at the front desk... However, Dr. Roy, the blame for your office & staff are a direct reflection of you and your leadership. That is why I hold you accountable for the behaviors bestowed on my experience with your office. Dr. Roy is egotistical and clueless to customers and their value because he is self-absorbed as the "SPECIALIST" - Just ask his staff and Call-Center or see all the signs in his office. Devalued Customer
After my first appointment and first sleep study, my initial impression of the doctor and staff is positive. However, I have a HUGE problem with their online check-in service. It is time consuming, it starts texting me a full week in advance of my appointments every day AND sends daily emails. It forces online payment, pushes you to store your credit card online (like that is a safe practice), asks the SAME questions over and over. At the end of all of that you have ADVERTISEMENTS!!!!
Great experience with the staff and the visit overall. Highly recommend the team in Dr. Roy's office.
Thank you so much Dr. Roy. You and your staff are angels! I was out of town and my cpap died. On the way home on a Sunday I called Dr. Roy's answering service. I was in a panic and in tears because I had not slept for two nights. Dr. Roy called me that night, YES, ON A SUNDAY NIGHT!, and assured me I would get a call the next morning and everything would be ok. His staff got me in the next day and I had another cpap that day. These precious angels saved my life. Thank all of you so much!
After driving an hour&a half 4ovr2yrs we will never be back.I called midOctober to schedule an annual appt for my son,to increase his dosage,& renew our prescriptions.First available appt was Jan23rd!!They made an allowance&gave us 3scripts to hold us over til Jan.There were other scheduling issues&had to speak to the manager.Very inexperienced nurse practitioner.I was not given medication options,I asked if an evening booster would still be an option w/increasing his current dose, she went......
to consultDr Roy.He entered the room angry&told me I could not take my son’s meds!!She assumed Iwantd it for myself&told DrRoy that Itold her I had been taking my son’s meds. She did not know I was also a patient of DrRoys&have the same sleep disorder&script as my son.We left w/my sons needs not being met,DrRoy taking my scripts away,noSchool med form, the nurse laughing,&my 9yr old devastatd. The office&staff lack experience.Dr Roy is overextendd&the patients are on the receiving end of his stress
I saw Dr. Roy on my first visit he determined I had sleep apnea after reading my forms I filled out, so I had a sleep test done results show I was in bad shape went back to discuss results saw one of the nurses saw kept my ongoing appointments. I never saw Dr. Roy again except the first visit after he told me I had sleep apnea he said we will get you fell back like you should. They put me on a prescription which I did not want but I came to Dr. Roy to get better sleep and never did. Think Twice
Outstanding service . CPAP Specialist Brenda gave great explanations.
Dr. Roy and his staff continue to provide top-notch treatment to my family and me. In my initial appointment, Dr. Roy took time to ask questions and provide the information I needed. After my sleep study, Brenda provided A+ information about my new equipment and what to expect next. Highly recommended.
I found Dr. Roy to be a consummate professional with a genuine interest in the well being of his patients. He is obviously extremely well qualified in his field and has a very friendly demeanor. I would highly recommend this physician.
Could not recommend anyone here due to office staff
First of all I would like to say thank you to Dr. James Roy, MD for diagnosing me with Sleep Apnea. For 55 whole years I have been trying to figure out what was wrong with me. I would wake up tired and groggy and never knew why I did not feel like getting up in the mornings. Sometimes I would oversleep in the mornings and never new why I would always be running late to work. now since I have a Bi-Pap machine to help me sleep life is much different. I have energy in the morning and want to get up
I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. James Roy and his staff for those requiring expert treatment for sleep related issues and disorders. Dr. Roy is expertly credentialed and experienced treating a wide range of sleep disorders. He and his staff professionally deal with patients both young and ageing in a compassionate manner exercising superior bed-side manner and talent. In a short 30 day period Dr. Roy’s testing and treatment improved my quality of life by over 70% helping me rest and regain ener
Dr. Roy and his staff were a very re-assuring presence. I felt at ease from the first time I met him until today's visit with Ms. Brenda Fretts who helped me set up my own C-PAP. I would HIGHLY recommend the wonderful people at Dr. Roy's office WITHOUT HESITATION.
Dr. Roy is a fantastic doc! He and his staff are friendly and they are always available when I have questions or issues. He got me treatment that I truly believe saved my life! There is nothing more valuable than good sleep and a great doctor who really cares!!!
Dr. Roy is the most competent physician I have ever seen. I've suffered from sleep apnea and insomnia for years, and he was the first physician that actually helped me get a good nights sleep. His staff was extremely helpful and friendly and always able to help when I had a question.
Dr. Roy is an amazing doctor with a heart for his patients! We came to discuss my son's possible sleep problems, but within minutes he identified a much bigger picture that needed addressed. It was heartwarming to know that he saw my son as a whole person and didn't limit his care to the specific focus that we were referred for. I highly recommend Dr. Roy!
One story from the Dr., another from staff. In my opinion, the confusion may be intentional. The staff can make decisions that are not what the Dr. said in person. The Dr. said the sleep test results were borderline and I could get a CPAP if I wanted. He never mentioned continuing the current medication treatment was tied to the purchase of the machine. Staff said no machine equals no treatment and no Dr. appointments. I can not trust this clinic, feels like a scam. Reporting this to State
Dr. Roy was very knowledgeable about sleep disorders and took time out to explain to my family and I about all possible treatment options.
My visit here was like like visiting family. Everyone from the technician who conducted the sleep study to the lady who fitted my CPAP mask were all extremely friendly and patient with me. They made me feel extremely comfortable with the CPAP machine, answered every question that I had(and I had a lot of them), and when it was time to put on the CPAP for the night, it was no trouble at all. I would totally recommend anyone who has sleep problems to come here.
Appointment times are a joke. Expect to wait at least an hour. They have to make an appointment for you to sign a piece of paper. The staff is inept and cannot follow faculty instructions. The doctor himself is great too bad his staff ruins the visit.
I tried AL.sleep clinic, but hen Dr. Roy left so did the quality of service so I actually tracked him down and have been seeing him for over 8 years now . His advice has led me on the road to a healthier life, the cpap service and monitoring has improved my sleep quality and overall health, there has not been anyone more concerned with my health than Dr. Roy. He listens to me and makes treatments easy for me to understand. He is the best , hands down.
Dr. Roy and his staff have been outstanding to me. listens to every little problem or question I might have. They are very detailed with answers to my questions. i personally couldn't ask for a better experience. The medicine he put me on has been spot on.
I think Dr. Roy is a compassionate person and caring doctor. I also think he is a bit of a used car salesman. He referred me for a sleep study. I turned out to have a relatively mild case of sleep apnea. He recommended a Cpap. I tried to wear it, but was unsuccessful. I've been sitting in a exam room, 60 minutes after my morning appointment time and still no doctor. I made an early morning appointment to beat the rush. I don't recommend him unless you have a severe case.
Only saw dr Roy before and after sleep study. Then NPs or cpap techs. Only had cpap 2.5 wks. Had issue w/ cpap not returning to original setup. Talk to tech on phone. Was rude but said bring in next day. Looked at cpap and said it was fine, I didn't have access to change pressure. I insisted I did, she was rude, I was rude. Asked to see someone else. She told me she would talk to someone, then I'm told I'm being discharged fm practice. No option for me to talk to anyone else.
Dr. Roy is extremely knowledgeable about sleep apnea and how to effectively treat it.
Dr. Roy and his staff have done a great job for me. They took the time to listen to my problems and provided a timely solution. I am now sleeping well and more importantly the dangerous symptoms have been eliminated. Brenda did an excellent job in explaining the different mask options and ultimately recommended a perfect match for my needs. MK has provided guidance in adjusting pressures to match my needs as well. Simply stated, this is sleep clinic that I would recommend any time.
