Dr. James John Romano

Dr Romano performed a neck lift surgery with unfortunate results… he convinced me to have a platysmaplasty (an incision under my chin and behind my ears to sew together the platysma bands) - I had simply wanted the skin on my neck and under my chin pulled back and tightened up. He said I needed to trust him if I wanted the results I hoped for. Two months after the surgery, the bands under my chin were back, and one of the scars behind my ear is 4+ inches long, dropping well below my hairline, clearly visible if I put my hair up. The scar is wide and has jagged white edges. I was told the scars would be barely noticeable. When I met with him to discuss a revision surgery, I felt he mocked me when I brought up information I’d learned from medical sites regarding this type of surgery - “Why are you asking me? You’ve done all the research”, he said. I’ve chosen a different doctor for the revision.

Okay this is going to be kind of a long post, but PLEASE READ all of it if you are considering getting any work done by Dr. Romano. Last year I had contacted Dr. Romano's office via email about setting up a consultation to remove a buffalo hump on the back of my neck as it was causing me pain and severe discomfort. Prior to contacting his office, I had no idea that it could even be removed. Well I was contacted by Kathryn, Dr. Romano's patient care coordinator, and let me tell you she is AMAZING, and Dr. Romano is the nicest and most professional surgeon ever. I elected to have the surgery done as I'm only 25 and my buffalo hump was severely hindering my quality of life. As a general rule, Dr. Romano's office does not deal with any insurance companies; however, my mom and I decided to try and submit my surgery through my insurance company. That was a nightmare because there was so much paperwork and so many codes that they wanted! Well, although they don't deal with insurance, Kathryn went above and beyond to help me respond to the insurance companies' requests. I know this procedure would not have been possible without all of Kathryn's help. The actual procedure went amazing. I could not have asked for a better surgeon than Dr. Romano. Every appointment leading up the procedure, he made sure to answer any questions I had and addressed any concerns that I brought up. I also have two tattoos on my back and he made sure to place the incision areas within the tattoos, and I cannot even tell where the holes were to begin with. Recovery from surgery was an absolute breeze, as were the follow up appointments to remove my stitches and to check on the progress of my healing. Kathryn made sure to call me later after surgery just to check up on how I was feeling. I am so incredibly happy with the results and could not have asked for a better team to take care of me. If I ever need or want any work done in the future, I will absolutely be going to Dr. Romano. Dr. Romano and his patient care coordinator Kathryn are the best team I could have asked for. Prior to researching the surgery, I had no idea a buffalo hump could be removed. I chose him as my surgeon to remove the buffalo hump on the back of my neck as it had caused me years of pain and discomfort. I genuinely could not have wished for a better experience than the one I received. Not only did Dr. Romano answer any questions and concerns I had, but made sure to inform me of everything that would happen during the procedure and after. The actual surgery and healing process were a breeze and I am so so happy with the results. I no longer have pain or discomfort in my neck AND I can wear clothing that doesn't hide the hump that was on my neck. I will absolutely be going to Dr. Romano in the future if I need work done for medical or cosmetic reasons.

Dr. Romano is by far the best surgeon I have ever seen. I work in the healthcare field (specifically women's health) and when I needed to have surgery to help with the results of a large weight loss, he was the only provider I considered. I have (and will continue to) recommended him to anyone who asked about a high quality surgeon who will work with his patients to help them understand every aspect of their procedure. Wonderful experience all around

My experience with Dr. Romano and his wonderful staff wildly exceeded all expectations. I looked at surgeons for about a year until settling with Dr. Romano to do my breast augmentation surgery. From my initial consultant, he was very informative and realistic with what he was able to do and what would yield the best results. I ended up having to get a lift just on one breast in addition to implants so I was nervous about if they would look even or not. Since Dr. Romano’s ascetic is the natural look, he explained to me what he was going to do to ensure my breasts would look even and natural. I loved that I was able to try on sizing during my pre-surgery consultation appointments. His staff is also very sweet and attentive, answering all of my emails and questions in a timely manner. To prepare for the surgery, Dr. Romano provided so much pertinent information about diet, vitamins/meds to avoid because it thins your blood, etc which I have never heard of any other doctor doing. Because of that, not only did I feel amazing because I was eating clean but my swelling and healing went so well that I’m 6 weeks post op and it looks like I’ve had them done for years. I was indecisive about my size and Dr. Romano was attentive with listening that I didn’t want to go too big, but wanted to look proportionate. I’m so happy I put all of my trust in his judgement with my size because I am so incredibly pleased with my size and the overall results. The hospital staff were all great. Everything went seamlessly, I remember seeing Dr. Romano, we went into the operating room and he right by my side holding my hand since I was a bit nervous. The next thing I know, I woke up with new breasts and went home when I was ready. Post-op, the team called me the next day to see how I was doing. A few days after, I went into the office so he could check on me and make sure everything was healing well. Throughout the entire healing post-op process, Dr. Romano and his team were just as caring and attentive as before, answering my questions and giving my instructions on the best care. This is a very serious and life changing procedure (in the best way), and I am so happy I choose Dr. Romano. I have at least 3 of my friends who plan to go to him. It has been 4 months since my surgery with Dr. Romano and I couldn't be any happier. I am still in awe of the results, way beyond what I thought was possible. I was very nervous to have another revision surgery (previous surgeries performed by 2 different doctors) but after meeting with Dr. Romano my mind was put at ease. His perfection, attention to detail, explanation of the procedure and kindness made me feel very comfortable and confident that he would produce excellent results. Dr Romano is Fantastic. He takes the time to explain everything that you will be going through and provides information on getting healthy before and after surgery. He is an artist and I completly trusted him through this procedure. His staff is fabulous and understanding. Dr Romano was recommended to me by my dermatologist and i couldn't be happier. He spent a lot of time with me before my surgery to make sure that we had a clear and agreed upon game plan. He lifted one breast & put in a small implant in the other. My breasts are now even and perky! He also took time after surgery to check on my healing. I've never felt rushed. All-in-all a great experience - i wish i had done it sooner!

A few years ago, I had decided that I wanted Dr. Romano to be my surgeon for my tubular breast correction. I was impressed with the results on his website and his experience with tubular breast correction. Dr. Romano was very particular in choosing the implant size during surgery and took my opinions into consideration. I'm glad I trusted his judgement because his choice of implant size suits my body perfectly. The results are beautiful, natural, and exceeded my expectations.

I spent years researching about my condition and doctors who specialized in correcting my condition. I decided that Dr. Romano was the perfect surgeon for me, and my first consultation with him was actually when I was 17. Throughout these years he has kept in touch and been very supportive and helpful. I finally underwent surgery to fix my condition, and I could not be happier! My breasts look amazing, and you can't even tell that I had this condition! Words cannot describe how happy I am!

I was so happy with my overall experience with Dr. Romano and his team! They took care of me on every level starting with our first communication. I knew I wanted to get a Breast Augmentation but was very concerned about going with a doctor I didn't get a direct referral from. My experiences here starting with the wonderful staff - the staff are fabulous, so attentive, nice, and willing to answer any questions you may have. Dr. Romano is so skilled at his profession it's almost scary! He's a perfectionist with great bedside manner; which is really important to a patient when they are down after surgery. He follows through will calling you after surgery. He has you come in as you are healing to make sure everything is perfect. With my surgeries, they're perfect!

Dr. Romano performed surgery on my nipples 5 years ago and to this day I can only say that I am soooooo happy. I still cannot believe how incredible I look!!!! That is right. I have had such a great experience with Dr. Romano and his office assistant Gwen that I simply had to post this review to acknowledge and educate those out there who are seeking a plastic surgeon. After doing my homework on several different surgeons for quite some time, I decided to visit with Dr. Romano first, who was highly recommended to me by a college friend. Once I met with him, I didn't feel the need to meet with any other doctor and these are the many reasons why. First of all, the office is centrally located in SF and it is new and modern, and I never had to wait when I arrived for my appointments. Dr. Romano consistently answered all my questions and concerns before and after my surgery. He provided me with resources, education, step by step do's and dont's among the many other homeopathic recommendations for faster healing. When choosing a plastic surgeon whether medical or elective or both, it was important to me to have someone who knew how to listen. I also wanted honesty for realistic results and expectations. I was quite impressed with Dr. James Romano from the very first time I spoke with him. I spent various hours researching to find the best calf implant surgeon. After doing my research and speaking with Dr. James Romano on the phone, I packed up my family and drove 11 hours to San Francisco in order for him to perform my surgery. I felt a warmth and kindness from his entire staff upon arriving to his office. He took the time to ask me my expectations, answer all of my questions, and educate me on the procedure and what to expect. He is a compassionate and caring doctor, he was with me in the pre-operating room as well as post-op. Dr. Romano truly cares about his patients, he will give you optimal results without compromising health and safety. Even though I live hundreds of miles away from his office, he still provides quality and effective care. We have phone conversations and he counsels me as to when I can start incorporating more regular activities into my daily routine. Deciding to have Dr. Romano perform my surgery has been one of the best decisions I have made. My results more than exceeded my expectations. Everyday I wake up is like Christmas, I love my legs. Several years ago I had a consultation with Dr. Romano and remitted a $1000 downpayment on several cosmetic surgery procedures. I had fully intended to have the surgery done, I was just waiting to get a 3-week period off work so I could proceed with treatment. Due to the economy, I have been unable to get that 3-week period, and now my financial circumstances have changed. That $1000 would sure come in handy right now. Several days ago I called to see if Dr. Romano would consider refunding the $1000 that has been on the books for almost 3 years. Unfortunately he has chosen to enforce his non-refundable downpayment rule. I also work for a surgeon, and there is no way we would ever keep a downpayment if a patient decided not to pursue treatment. We strive to provide exceptional customer service, and keeping a patient's downpayment does not fit in with our idea of Nordstrom-level patient relations, even in Castro Valley... The message I get is that, if Dr. Romano needs to keep my $1000, business is not that good. Apparently, he needs it more than I do. Dr. Romano, I am sure you will reap what you so, as what goes around eventually comes around. I cannot, nor will I ever be able to, speak to Dr. Romano's surgical expertise, but if his customer service skills are anything like his clinical skills, I think I will go elsewhere!
