Save yourself time and energy. Do not go to this office. Doctor must have been a good doctor in past. However, he did not have time to spend with his patient. He spend 30sec in and out of the room, or 2 min in and out of the room. He made me come back each week, but never gave a clear instruction and did a horrible treatment, He kept giving me a MURO which made the eye dry to the point that I am now dealing with an issue for rest of my life. This doctor is too busy to care for his patients rather he is just more focused on how to bill for several people at time. He will also repeat the same tests each week, so that he can bill the insurances each time over and over again. THE worst staff possible on earth, who is not giving you your own information. They will over bill you and then, will not give your receipts. He is a good doctor with his entire focus on MONEY< INSURANCE GAMBLE and WITH THE WORST OFFICE STAFF POSSIBLE. DO NOT COME HERE. I am 28 weeks pregnant and was referred by the emergency room to this place after I lost vision in my right eye for 30 minutes. I had an appointment and I still waited two and a half hours. TWO AND A HALF HOURS for the staff to shrug at me when I asked what was taking so long. The place itself was grimy and disgusting, seats with only half the seat covering on it, you could see the cushion itself ripping. The rooms smelled like hot garbage and the staff was extremely rude, clueless as all get out. I cannot believe this place even still operates with how disgustingly unprofessional they are. I had an eye surgery on 12/17/2020 done by dr. MARTEL, JOSEPH . I am happy, The doctor and the staff were professional, skilful and helpful . Thank you all especially dr. Joseph.

Dr martel did both my eye surgerys he saved my vision I love how he done great job on both my eyes I had cornea transplant on both my eyes I only want him when it comes to my eye needs hes great

I have multiple medical conditions, so I've had 200+ doctor's visits in my lifetime. This was the worse visit I have had in my life. It boils down to the whole appt. being rushed, the doctor cutting me off before I could list out symptoms, and no one communicating or reading any paperwork. The tech was not friendly at all. Dr. Martel came in and it was immediately apparent that the reason why I was there had never gotten to him. He looked at my standard test results, said my eyes were dry, and wrote me a prescription. Not only did he not acknowledge the reason I was there, he didn't ask if I had any questions and immediately started leaving the room. At this point I tried to bring up another separate eye issue. I listed off one symptom (I have about 5), and he cut me off in the middle of mentioning my second one. It became very apparent that he was completely disregarding everything I said and was in a rush to leave, so I didn't press further. I am still completely flabbergasted.

I called in the morning to confirm a appointment that we were given and was told show up at 12:00 and wait would be 2 hours. We drive the 45 mins to get here early and was told it would take 4 and 1/2 hours to be seen ( for a small child). Just be honest and say we don’t have a available appointment time. Don’t mislead people with lies.

Worst place I’ve been. They take about and hour to take pictures on your eye. Then about 30 minutes to call you in to a room. Plus, more then 30 minutes for the doctor to see you. And when he gets there, he doesn’t know what eye is the one that has the problem. He was checking my husbands right eye, and giving the diagnosis when my husband had hurt his left eye at work. I can’t say horrible enough times! My poor mom had a pretty drastic eye surgery and skin graft. Dr. Martel was her doctor in the hospital so she had to continue care with him after at his office. She waits over 3-4 hrs each visit even with appointment time. Was given an appointment they even wrote on a card on a day he’s not there. She travels over 2 hrs to see him! Then to top it off she needed papers from DMV filled out or she would lose her license due to not being able to use her right eye for the time being. And the office staff told her she had to pay $15 for it to be filled out! Never have I ever had a doctor charge me to fill out paperwork that has to do with the reason their treating me. My mom takes care of my elderly grandma that has cancer. She’s a single mom of a teenager and money is very very tight! Traveling over two hrs one way to wait hrs and to lose her license because her doctors office and doctor are AHoles just isn’t right! He treats her very rudely and the office staff is horrible! Rude and unprofessional on top of unorganized. They do not care about there patients. My mom is a great person who had a horrible injury That put her in the hospital for eight weeks. Money was already tight for them and my mom is stressed and her face will never look the same. They could care less. No sympathy for her at all always so unkind! Unless your stuck with this doctor like she was so not put your self through the emotional trauma! I live out of state or I’d be there raising hell on how rude they are to her. I have never reviewed a doctor before but my experience with Dr. Martel and this office warrants my review. Dr. Martel instilled a sense of urgency regarding my eye issues and sent me off for tests but then didn't contact me back with results for 2 weeks, even after several calls to the office for someone to call me....then back in the office again (each time waiting at least 1 to 1.5 hours) then he sent me to Sutter ER to have a Lumbar Puncture - but once I got to the triage room, the doctor immediately told me that they don't perform the test that he wanted done and to go to Radiology the next day. They couldn't understand why the dr. would send me to the ER for this test. So nothing was performed on me and I ended up with an $800 bill ($250 ER visit & 20% copay) for nothing! After all of my tests and copays he said that nothing is wrong even though I still have the same symptoms. Now I am starting over with a new doctor. I could go on with the complete inefficiency of this off

Waited 2 hours and no one seems to care. If your doctor refers you here. Ask for another place.

The wait is horrible. Doctors book numerous amounts of patients for the same time, and then make you wait for hours to be seen. The most ridiculous place in the industry.

Husband and I waited so long the first time (almost 2 hours) we had to come back. Came back 3 days later and waited again for over an hour and when we went to leave the dr went to the room where we were. Husband was finally seen and the Dr. was rude and unprofessional. Dr. Martel has been my Dr for 17 years. I feel like he is family and I grew up with him. He has helped diagnose me with VKH and now IIH. Unfortunately his staff is very incompetent. They do not return calls, or messages and due to poor time management all appointments last 2-4 hours instead of 1-2. I have heard from other physicians that he is great Dr if you can get past his staff. Sadly I have to find a new Dr because I cannot get a return call re apt or prescription for over 15 attempt

It's the worst place ever to have and appoinment first you wait 4 months for your appoinment then you get to your appointment early than you have to wait one hour after your appoinment time.

I am sitting in the office right now with my brother in law. This place is an absolute joke! The staff is so incredibly disorganized and unprofessional! My brother in law was literally called out of the back room with the assistant to pay his copay...seriously?? These greedy vultures couldn't wait until he was finished with his procedure??? It gets worse. Just when I was about to complain to Dr. James Martel himself about the circus he has for office staff, he comes around the corner, disoriented, looking like he's heavily medicated! The resection administration is horrible. The young laddy at the front desk its unfriendly and it looks like she want u do all her job. But the nurses and doctor are good they was fast and friendly.

Dr. Martel diagnosed my eye problem and showed a strong commitment to treat the problem. I am very pleased with the doctors and staff. I recommend this clinic.

If you are going to contract with California Children's Services, please teach your front office staff about it and let the patient be seen. 5 phone calls, and I still don't have an appointment because they can't seem to find the referrals. You are my only choice, step up and take care of your commitment to CCS patients.

I went to Sutter Hosp.ER for an emergency detached retina He was the Opthomologist "On call". He didn't bother to come in to look at my eye which I was now blind in ... Instead was given an appt the following morning at his office ..only to be told he did not accept my primary insurance nor my supplemental insurance plan. First time here, not a good first impression. Our appointment was at 1pm, we checked in at 12:55. We sat patiently until 2:10 as they called people back that arrived after us. Finally went up to the desk to inquire why they were taking other people ahead of us. They replied that there were two docters seeing patients and we had three people ahead of us still. Joseph Martel is very professional doctor, all the staff are well-natured

Dr. Martel was able to diagnose an eye muscle condition that was previously overlooked. He was very patient with me and didn't dismiss my problem like the other ophthalmologist I had before. I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Martel and his staff. I would recommend him to anyone!

Worse than going to the DMV. Atleast there when you have an appointment you are seen relatively fast. Had an appointment and waited for 2.5 hours and still no dr. Waste of time

Over my 3 appointments, I waited 2.5 hours+ each time. Bring a book, or bring a pillow for a nap and PLAN AHEAD to wait. This review does not reflect the care that was recieved, Dr Martel is knowledgable and helped me recover quickly. I appreciate this Dr Martel's willingness to take in ER patients from Sutter, but I feel that they are constantly overbooked and need to correct this matter. BEWARE!!! THEY GAVE ME PINK EYE TWICE! I had gone to my doctor and he even confirmed that this horrible place gave me pink eye! They are rude and unfriendly. The optometry department is even worse! The old lady there is completely rude and unprofessional. NEVER COME HERE. You need to call them? They will never pick up. The ONLY TIME you can get them to pick up is if you call their billing department because they are money hungry, and when they do pick up, they will tell you that they are going to transfer your call AND THEN THEY WILL HANG UP ON YOU. If I could give negative stars, I would. I even had to wait 2.5 hours after my appointment time to even get my eye exam done. I cannot possibly be happier with the thorough eye examination done by Dr. James Martel and his staff!! Almost 2,000 miles from home with symptoms of a torn or detached retina gave me plenty to worry about. Using google I found several opthamologists, but none were available on Saturday. I tried Dr. Martel's messaging service and within 3 hours I received a personal call from Dr. James Martel as well as precise recommendations for what I could and could not do as far as activities and he then told me to meet him at his clinic at noon Sunday! Promptly at noon, Dr. Martel cam out to greet us, then returned to dialate my eyes. The technician did numerous tests on my eyes. My husband and I went in to hear the results from Dr. Martel. He was amazingly thorough and walked us through every computer generated photo. He was quick, but knowledgeable, optimistic, and was prepared for my endlaess questions. Fortunately, there were no signs of retinal distress and I went about enjoying the remainder of the day. In addition, all.of the photos and information was being sent to my regular opthamologist back home! I have nothing negative to say about the professionalism and treatment of Dr. James Martel and his staff... I would highly recommend this facility and Doctor to anyone!!
