Dr. James C Lai

He was my pain management doctor in rehabilitation at PaRC. Him and his wife Wendy are so caring and honest. They are not going to give you addictive medications that mask your pain and worsen your injury further. If you really want to get better this is the place. They will walk you through what you need to do to address your issues so that you can live a healthy pain free life. They believe pain and emotional distress is tied and are awesome caretakers in this area as well. Dr. Lai takes his time asking all the questions he can to figure out the root of your pain. If you struggle with opiates prescribed from other pain doctors he will safely switch you to MUCH SAFER alternatives!! He has helped save my life this past year, I will never change look for another! ????

I am an actual patient of Dr. James Lai. I have had bad experiences with pain management Doctors in the past treating me more like just a person seeking Pain Meds. That's absolutely untrue. I told Dr Lai that I wasn't seeking opioids, but other avenues to ease my pain. He sat a spoke with me for 45 minutes and thoroughly explained all my options. We even spoke about our love of the University of Texas. I am being 100% honest, I can see that is a very kind human being and I see myself with him for a long time. “Everyone is addicted. Pain is in your head.” This person is despicable. If you have acute CRPS & Dystonia, he will laugh at you in your face and require you to commit to a drug treatment facility - the one he is in charge of. I’m off all of my medications. Got off them myself just to prove him wrong. Twice! He still believes pain is only psychological even when crushed in an MVA. Told me to “take it like a man”. I recorded him saying this to me. The guy has a sick and twisted outlook on those who suffer. His love is his ego and income bracket.

Both doctors Lai are the only doctors who I can really trust. They believe in me while no other doctor did. I ended up getting a right hip replacement, and now he is trying the best he can, to save my other hip without the pain medications, in fact. He has helped me tons, to get out of the strong medications and I am beyond grateful for that Doctor. I was in route of depression with so much pain, but he make me see things other way: without a healthy brain we can't get a healthy body. They are both connected. I feel much calmer, happier with inner peace. The staff is beyond helpful and friendly. They always helped me, given me the best advice and are always ready to welcome me. Dr. Lai didn't listen to what I had to say. He gave me the 3rd degree about everything and I couldn't get but a couple of words out without him assuming things. I got treated like I was seeking drugs when I am in a lot of real pain. He's not my kind of doctor.

I’ll give Dr. Lai two stars. He’s actually a good doctor and a God fearing man. His wife Wendy however needs all the professional help she can get while she thinks she’s a nurse she has no degree as a nurse or medical profession to talk to patients about medical care in any way. The staff is weird as their lab technician is also. Bad vibes and energy in their office. My time spent in this office depressed me lack of empathy for both patients and people in general. Dr. Lai almost turned me into an invalid in the years i went to him. Bad advice. Do no physical therapy. Buy a walker! I quit this quack and now go to an excellent pain mgmt doctor, who is very thorough

1 star ONLY because negative stars aren't possible! Absolutely worst "Dr" EVER!!!! Money pit is all he is. This man will definitely talk down to you and call you crazy every chance he gets! His office staff is just as condescending as he is! I hate that I spent so much time and money on that quack!!

I wish I could post 0 stars. Hands down... one of the worst drs I've seen. He is extremely unprofessional and actually started talking about my children and how he thinks I'm a poor father because I take 3 subs a day. My wife also saw him and she refuses to see him anymore because he was so condescending. Anyway, dont waste your time (or money) seeing him. He gave a rehearsed speech and did not listen to my answers repeated questions I repeated the same answers. He is only interested in the bottom dollar. A waste of time.

THE WORST SO-CALLED DOCTOR YOU CAN EVER SEE! I WENT IN 1ST BECAUSE OF A BACK PROBLEM, AND HE HAD MRI'S TAKEN. I CAME BACK, HE SAID DO SIT UPS, WELL, I HAVE A VERY LONG HISTORY OF BODYBUILDING. SO I ASKED WHAT THE MRI SHOW? HE LEFT, 5 MINUTES LATER HE READ THE REPORT, CHANGED HIS TONE, AND SAID I HAD 3 HERNIATED DISCS IN MY LOWER BACK! HE NEVER LOOKED AT THE MRI REPORT, TOTAL STUPID OR THIS GUY. WHAT DOCTOR DOESN'T LOOK AT THE RESULTS OF AN MRI, XRAY, OR CAT-SCAN. YOU SEE, I'VE BEEN THROUGH A LOT! AND I KNOW BETTER THAN MOST, THAT REAL DOCTORS USE THESE PHOTOS AS TOOLS TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEMS! THE DOC SAYS NOW THAT I CAN'T LIFT MORE THAN 20 LBS, AND PUTS ME ON VICADIN. NOW BEING PUT ON A STRONG PAIN KILLER IS FINE JUST AS LONG AS THE DOCTOR FINDS OUT A REFERRAL HE CAN SEND YOU TO THAT SPECIALIST IN THAT AREA. Worst doctor I have ever been too, wanted to draw out a plan to bill my insirmace because I have great insurance, never in my life now I don't trust doctors with what I tell them. Would never go to him ever again, nobody should, he's a crook. Advising Texas Medical Board on HIppa act violations.

I had to give this person one star unfortunately. Dr.Lai is a narcissistic legend in his own mind. The office told me to bring all my medical records and a list of all the medications I’m currently taking to my first appt. No problem ! I’m perm. disabled and had records to prove that along with my medical records,MRI’s,results,reports,etc...Lai finally graced me with his presence after a ridiculously long wait. Not once did he want to discuss my medical records or the medications I was taking. (Other than to criticize the medications I was taking) My previous Dr. just retired. No attempt to even examine me was done by Dr.Lai.. All he did was ask one ridiculous question after another,never giving me a chance to answer. (And his questions had nothing really to do with why I was even there) After about 20 minutes of this nonsense,I said “thank you Dr.”and walked out ! Anyway I found another Dr. and life is great. I have no ties to Dr. Lai so not writing just to up his average. He was very informative w/my situation and took his time explaining even when a nurse came in trying to nudge him along. He seemed to generally care and wanted to help me so for that, 5 stars. Now yes, he is making me come back in 6 days for an immediate follow up even though I only needed 2 weeks of medicine, the same medicine I have been on for 6+ months, but why?? Yes - charge my insurance. I don't even mind that since insurance is a scam anyway but I really don't need to be taking time so much time away from work. This removes at least 2 stars. However as long as he helps me which so far, yes. I will return for more visits. Oh yeah, really neat office on 5th floor, nice amenities and view. Not sure why all the bad reviews. Nice enough guy to me. I certainly am frustrated with pain management doctors sometimes too. They can treat you like cattle and just get you in get you out mentality. Dr. Lai does repeat a lot of the same stuff on self care but it's still stuff that is valuable information. I think the bad reviews are from too many people just looking for pills and lashing out. Not sure why all the bad reviews. Nice enough guy to me. One of the worst doctors I have ever been to in my entire life The front desk staff was extremely antisocial

A doctor that enjoys your suffering. If you're looking for a place to spend an hour every week and get treated like a bad person with a "sick " brain maybe you will be happy here. Dr.Lai seems to think he knows everyone and loves to stereotype people. Unless you enjoy being talked down to steer clear of this place. The nurses are great but when it comes to him, unless you are Asian or a perfect person , get ready to feel bad that you are not. I honestly did better on my own and will continue on my road to total sobriety without this place. A doctor that enjoys your suffering. Dr. Lai spent ALOT of time with me. His wife actually prepared me for the lecture he was going to give me. I suffer from back pain after a lumbar fusion. I have been in pain for many years. He told me that the pain med I had been on for years was not good for me. My wife insisted I listen and follow his instructions. Now I am no longer "chained" to my medication and my daughter trusts me to watch my grandson. He's a good doctor.
