They were really nice, Dr. Lai is really good with kids. The staff were great too. I would really recommend taking the kids there for any issues relating to the eyes. Like any other mum, I was worried something was wrong with my son’s eyes, but after thoroughly examining him, also playing and singing with him along the way…lol. Dr. Lai just said nothing is wrong with him, cut his screen time. I just laughed cause my son is a screen culprit…lol. It was such a relief. Thank you so much Dr. Lai and staff.

Dr. Lai made my 3 year old feel at ease while being able to appropriately exam her eyes and provide a diagnosis. Very pleased with the level of care from this experienced doctor.

Well my experience with my daughter's appointments have always been excellent. Dr. Lai is one of the best doctor in Houston. He definitely has so much knowledge and also patience with children. Every appointment is great, he answers my questions and really takes his time to make sure everything is right. I also arrived a bit early to my last appointment and they didnt wait until the actual appointment time to see us... they called us in right away... which is great when its a pediatric appointment. I booked an appointment months ago for my 3 year old. I was called the day of, one hour prior to my appointment to be told the Dr. was out for the week! Not only did I pull her out of daycare for the visit, but I will not be able to reschedule in such short notice. I understand the need for vacation and understand the need to spend time during the holiday’s, however the office staff totally dropped the ball on this! How inconsiderate! I booked an appointment months ago for my 3 year old. I was called the day of, one hour prior to my appointment to be told the Dr. was out for the week! Not only did I pull her out of daycare for the visit, but I will not be able to reschedule in such short notice. My son had an appointment with Dr Lai. I thought Dr Lai was a little dismissive, our appointment seemed rushed and I did not think they were great with my son - compared to other medical professionals who work with children. I received another opinion from a highly recommended and reviewed facility, they reported issues that Dr Lai did find. I tried to get a copy of my sons visit, no response from his office despite multiple voicemails and nothing was documented on the patient portal. I would not recommend Dr Lai or his office. Dr. James Lai...stear clear of this "Dr"!! He will lie and then lie some more. Stear clear of this man unless you want to be labeled a drug abuser. Excellent Doctor. My special needs son has been seeing (no pun) Dr Lai for over 15 years.

Dr Lai and his staff were all very helpful and kind. We were happy to not wait too long in between getting dilation and seeing the doctor who had incredible bedside manner.

We have seen him for about 2 years now for my kids and he is definitely very nice with the kids and good explaining to the parents . I didn’t give it 5 starts only because the staff could be a little nicer . We used to go to the tangle wood office and now we went to sugar land. I've been seeing Dr. Lai since I was a toddler and I refuse to go anywhere else. I have grown up and moved away yet I still make a very concerted effort to get into see him. Most amazing bedside manner, best tone (never condescending) and he really is one of the smartest, best ophthalmologists in the US. Thank you Dr. Lai!!!!

We came in as new patients and we registered in less than 5 minutes and then headed to Dr. Lais office section were we were greeted by an ever so friendly receptionist and the wait there was literally less than 2 minutes. Once inside everyone was so amazing and Dr Lai truly showed that he cared for my sons eyes/vision. We will most definitely be coming back.

I took my mom here because she cannot get off of pain meds. Dr. Lai was VERY compassionate and helped her get off of the meds. Highlly recommend.

Over all I think it was a good experience. I was an entire day early and they still let me come in so I wouldn't have to take another day from school/work. So that there was a bonus. Huge. Everything was top notch, the Doctor himself was very nice. He addressed my concerns pretty good. I thought my daughter had a lazy eye because when she is tired her left eye sags a little. But he said that he did not see that. Then he said to take a picture next time. So that made me feel better. At least he was willing to address it again. My only issue. This is a pediatric doctor office. There was only one toy in the waiting room. No kids books. Really I would have never thought it was a kid's eye doctor. We got called back and the girl who wrote in the chart and prepared Lately for her exam did not come across as a person who worked with kids. Granted you are dropping eye drops in their eye, which is a problem for most all kids I am sure. But it doesn't have to be a nightmare. I thought for sure she have a trick up her sleeve to get the drops in with less trauma. Prying an eye open is not the method a pediatric office should have. I'll be honest. Lately was not cooperating. She was starting to cry and give her that look like she was pissin her off. But we got it. It was really the only thing that I could complain about. I mean all kids probably resist. Maybe mine just did more than normal. Hahah That is possible. :) Over all I think it was a good experience. I started seeing James lai 5 years ago he was great. He gave me medicine I needed to help my Intersttial cystitis. He even tried giving me stronger stuff that I didn;t like. Well I got pregneant went into remission and stopped seeing him for about 2 years. When I came back he treated me like I was a drug addict. He barely gave me any medicine and then he totally refused to give me anything. I had injured my back. Had an MRI and he said all looked fine. Well, upon me checking out I read the MRI all was NOT fine. I asked him what does this and that mean. He hurrily rushed me into his office and explained I have 2 buldging discs, nerve damage and sciatica. And said you should get that looked at……..He didn't even offer me a refferal or and injection. WHAT A WASTE!! If you need anything other than Lyrica or injection don't go see him. He said he only gives pain meds for recovering surgery or people who are fixing to die.
