James Hill

Dr. Hill performed rotator cuff surgery for my left shoulder on October 26, 2022 and I was cleared by Dr. Hill on March 9, 2023. The day after my surgery, Dr. Hill called me to follow-up on how I was feeling including my level of pain. I highly recommend Dr. Hill because he takes the time to fully explain the MRI, then the surgical procedure including post surgery physical therapy, correct sleeping position, hygiene and overall physical therapy at home that is required to have a complete and successful recovery. In less than 5 months, my shoulder feels better than before my injury and I am convinced Dr. Hill's surgical experience and expertise is the reason why. He repaired my left shoulder right the first time and he will be my life long orthopedic surgeon with Illinois Bone & Joint located in Arlington Heights, IL.

I am very please with Dr. Hill's repair to my rotator cuff, and removal of a bone spur. My pain is gone and range of motion is back to normal. Thanks!

Dr Hill has replaced both of my shoulders … the most recent one in August, 2023. My experiences from start to finish have been great. Dr Hill diagnosed the problem and spent the time to clearly explain what needed to be done and each operation went very well. I experienced very limited pain after the surgery (certainly less than my pain prior to the surgery) and my recovery went very smoothly. After 3 months of recovery and PT, my shoulder was good as new and today (at my 6 month appointment) I was given my final checkup and release. I highly recommend Dr Hill … he’s a great surgeon but has always been honest and straightforward with me and made sure he answered any question I had and walked away happy that I made the choice to have Dr Hill as my orthopedic surgeon. After two complete shoulder replacements over the course of 3 years, I’m back to normal thanks to his amazing work!

Dr. James Hill was a godsend who genuinely cares about his patients. He did a shoulder "Reverse Replacement" that will let me play golf again. Rehab was amazing and his surgical skills were impeccable. To have a doctor with his experience is rare.

I was referred to Dr. Hill late last fall by my primary physician. On December 1st of 2021 Dr. Hill repaired my rotator cuff. Dr. Hill is easy to talk to and was very patient in answering all my questions. Five months later, I am back swinging a golf club and my shoulder feels GREAT!!!! He is highly skilled and I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Hill! Should I ever need surgery on my other shoulder, Dr. Hill is my doctor!!!!!

On Nov 3rd, 2021, I had a slip and fall that resulted in my needing a Rear Shoulder Replacement. I am so fortunate that I was referred to Dr. Hill. He did a wonderful job and my shoulder is completely healed. I am so grateful for his expertise as a surgeon. I would recommend him highly.

Dr. Hill has replaced my Right and Left shoulders. Within 3- 6 mos. I was in perfect condition. He is very kind and considerate. He explained all that he did in detail and made it easy for me to understand the procedure. I recommend him to anyone needing a shoulder replacement.

It took time to decide on having surgery because of my age (79) and health history (MS). I was always in pain and very restricted in my daily abilities. I did decide to have Dr. Hill do the surgery and am extremely pleased with the results.

Dr. Hill did my total left shoulder replacement on April 23, 2021 at Northwest Community Hospital. I have been a patient of Dr. Hill's since 2017. I have found him to be very honest, empathetic and caring. I couldn't be happier with my new shoulder. Everyone in the office was kind and efficient. Dr. Hill is a good listener and we discussed the pain issue in detail and then took steps to start remediation. The one down side was the amount of paperwork, much of it redundant, that was required because it had been more than a year since my last visit.

I have had several surgeries by Dr James Hill, a complete reverse replacement of my left shoulder and a replacement of my right knee. The left knee will follow in about three months. The pre surgical consultations were extremely thorough and understandable and left no question in my mind that the end result would be no less than perfect . . . and they were. Had left shoulder surgery a few years back. Went extremely well. I am currently under care for my right shoulder. Dr. Hill is a very dedicated, compassionate, caring doctor. His work and assist with recovery is top notch.

Dr Hill is amazing! I had what calls “the angriest shoulder he’s even seen” and I recovered. Took me years & extensive therapy but I’m there! Frozen shoulder twice. He was honest about what I would go through & gave me his honest opinion about the recommended procedure for the pinched nerves in my neck. I love the fact that he doesn’t jump into surgery & makes it a last resort, was always honest & caring, listens & made me as comfortable as possible. Even post surgery! Dr. James Hill has brought me through both a Shoulder Replacement and more recently a Hip Replacement. I could not have chosen a more caring and competent surgeon.

I had my second knee replacement by Dr Hill and the procedure was just as good as the other knee he did. Excellent explanation of what to expect, his staff is knowledgeable & friendly and the followup care is excellent. Appointment times were pretty much at the scheduled time with treatment and check ups.

Dr. Hill was able to completely repair a rotator cuff tear that was over 10 years old. He is very focused on the patients well being and successful outcome of the surgery.

yes I would recommend Dr. Hill to my family and friends the surgery went very well . I had a torn rotator cuff and a torn bicep on my right shoulder and with the surgery it is healing nicely also I had my left torn rotator cuff surgery done by Dr. Hill 12 yrs. ago and he did a wonderful surgery then that is why I came back to him now .He is very skillful and knowledgeable surgeon and spot on with his advice on my recovery.

I saw Dr. Hill for a shoulder/Rotator Cuff issue. He read my MRI and knew exactly what needed to be done in order for my arm to be functional and pain free. Surgery was scheduled one month later. Absolute Success! Dr. Hill was kind, informative, and very patient. He explained everything in detail as well.

I have been a patient of Dr. James Hill for many years because of pain in my knee. When I got to the point where I decided to get it fixed, I scheduled surgery with Dr. Hill to do a knee replacement. Happily, it turned out to be a partial knee replacement and 6 months later I am completely pain free and able to walk miles. Like others who have had this surgery usually say, “I should have done it sooner!” Dr. Hill is very personable and always took the time to answer all of my questions and concerns about surgery/recovery in the time of a pandemic. I really appreciate his time, his good humor and his care so much so that we are now going to start investigating a shoulder problem. Additionally, I went to rehab at IBJI in Palatine, IL and was really pleased with that experience. It was hard work but the staff is delightful and I look forward to working with them again if the need arises.

I am completely satisfied with my recent shoulder surgery. In a few weeks I was able to get back to most home activities and started hitting the golf course after 5 weeks. I had a cleanup that so far has exceeded my expectations for flexibility and elimination of discomfort. In fact, I did not need ANY pain medication starting day 2. Dr. Hill was very responsive to my questions before and after the surgery. He is very personable and professional. I would definitely recommend Dr. Hill.

I was scheduled to be checked for shoulder and elbow, when I arrived and after filling a ton of paper work and charged a copay, they said the doctor will examine the shoulder today only and need to reschedule for elbow. Sad! I immediately canceled.

I have been a long-time patient of Dr. James Hill who has treated me over the years for knee and shoulder issues as a result of sports wear and tear. I have always been treated with respect and caring from reception to nursing to x-ray to administration and by Dr. Hill. He is a popular, skilled surgeon and I have always enjoyed my conversations with him as we charted my treatment options. In October of 2018, we both agreed that I was a candidate for bilateral total knee replacement using his skills and the Mako robotic assist system. In the world of total knee replacement, I am considered young, but this also allowed me to work hard pre-surgery strengthening my legs using Dr. Hills recommendations. One year after the surgery, I have nearly the strength and full range of natural knees. It is a challenging process and I did a lot of work pre and post-surgery to get the results. I am very glad I did the replacements and very happy to work with Dr. Hill and staff at IBJI Arlington Hts

Dr. Hill was able to replace my hip and get me back to work in just over a month when other Dr's time frame was much longer. He is very passionate about his work and cares for his patients. I have had no issues and I am 3 months post op. Highly recommend him.

In July 2018, I had knee replacement surgery at the IBJI based on my experience with Dr. James Hill’s care for my wife’s shoulder injury. This week I had my one-year follow-up with Dr. Hill and he reports the knee is very stable and the straightening and bending results are very good. My interest in having surgery was based on the significant pain I was experiencing in walking and running. Dr. Hill and the entire IBJI staff was excellent. Because of the successful results of the first surgery, I decided to have a second surgery on the other knee in December 2018 with the results being similarly successful. The success of these surgery’s required significant Physical Therapy for about 8-10 weeks. This hard work was difficult at times but worth the successful outcomes. Based on my experience, I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Hill to anyone who was experiencing the same level of pain I was previously experiencing.

Dr Hill replaced my right shoulder six months ago. He was very informative on the procedure beforehand. He was very patient and listened to all my questions. I have full mobility in my shoulder with no pain. Am able to swim and bike with no more issues. I would highly recommend him for any future problems. Great personality.

My family and I have been seeing Dr. Hill for almost 20 years. He is by far, the absolute greatest orthopedic doctor/surgeon we have ever known and will probably ever know. His knowledge is immeasurable, his skill is unbelievable, and he also has a great sense of humor. He has performed 1 surgery (so far) on me, 2 on my dad, and one on my mom. I tell everyone that will listen about Dr. Hill. It will be a devastatingly sad day when he retires.

I highly recommend Dr. James Hill. He performed surgery on my shoulder in 2007 and in 2018 he performed an elbow replacement. I can do things with my shoulder and my elbow that I was never able to do before. I trust him. Dr. Hill is knowledgeable, kind and I like the way he explains everything thoroughly. James M. Hill is a very arrogant individual - not a compassionate doctor. I went to him for left shoulder pain. His answer for a few of my questions was "My crystal ball is not working". He gave that answer on two visits. Wait time is usually in excess of one hour. I mentioned that I have some discomfort on right shoulder as well. Dr. Hill replaced my hip a year ago. He was very thorough prior to the surgery, and in any follow-ups needed. He is always ready to answer questions, and takes whatever time is needed to do so. The surgery itself was just as he explained; no surprises. I would highly recommend him for any orthopedic surgery.

Dr Hill was attentive to my needs and answered all my questions. He gave me different options on solving my shoulder problem. He operated on my shoulder,rotator cuff. Very thorough and to the point. Told me I needed surgery the first time I saw him. Since I was apprehensive, I waited 4 months. I wish I would have done it when he 1st recommended it. Scheduling was quick, surgery was quick,and recovery was quick. Will definitely go back if I need any orthopedic medical assistance again.

Doctor Hill performed shoulder replacement surgery on my severely arthritic right shoulder in August of 2016. I could not be happier with the level of care received or the outcome. Very competent, kind and thoughtful practitioner and I am very happy with the great work he and his PA have done on my shoulder.

Had full replacement hip surgery three months ago & now I have zero pain! Dr. Hill explained everything thoroughly, & was always very upbeat & positive. It's great to be able to do normal things now without any pain. Also, the ladies in the office are always very nice which is a plus.

Dr. Hill is a great surgeon. He repaired my shoulder and was back to normal in no time. He's always willing to listen and explains things very well. I feel completely comfortable in his hands.

After putting off my shoulder surgery for a long time I finally couldn't take the pain anymore. I was very nervous about having surgery. Dr. Hill was wonderful. He explained the procedure for my complete shoulder replacement and answered every question I had in detail. I am thrilled with the outcome and pain was gone almost immediately. I will have the other shoulder done soon since it is just as bad. I can't say enough about this excellent, caring doctor.

I recently had full shoulder replacement due to severe arthritis pain. Dr. Hill fully explained the procedure, as well as, the recovery. My experience has been phenomenal! Very little post surgical pain, a great experience with PT rehab and close to 100% flexibility recovery. I would, without hesitation, recommend Dr. Hill for this procedure.

Gail B, I had rotator cuff surgery on May 1, 2016. Dr. Hill operated on my should for three hours and I was in P.T. two days later. I had very little pain and continued my P.T.till mid July. The Absolute BEST!!! I had shoulder replacement surgery in April and rehab was a pleasant surprise. All went well and I have full range of motion and all pain is erased. It's an absolute pleasure to move about without pain. I will be scheduling another shoulder replacement in January and look forward to yet another successful experience. Had my rotater cuff fixed by Dr. Hill. Procedure was done Sept 21, 15. Had almost no pain afterwords and was in physical therapy 2 days after surgery. Had follow up visits several times before leaving for Florida to play golf for 8 weeks on Jan1 2016. Never any pain and I would highly reccommend Dr. Hill and the Illinois bone and Joint institute to anyone. I played golf 35 times with no restrictions and as good as I played before I tore my rotator cuff.

I was referred to Dr. Hill for arthroscopic elbow surgery by my chiropractor who said he was one of the best elbow doctors around. He sent several patients before me, all were happy with the results. I think my results have been very good. Post surgery pain and recovery was better than anticipated. Very good surgeon, helpful staff, all good.

Dr. Hill is very conscientious, thorough and caring. He took the time to thoroughly explain exactly what my right knee replacement surgery would involve and everything went exactly as he had explained. Because of the excellent job he did on my surgery, my recovery period exceeded my expectations. I was driving my car after only three weeks and now, after only three months, I feel as though I am completely back to normal, with no more pain!

Dr. James Hill Illinois Bone & Joint Institute Dear Mr. Hill, I am recovering from my recent right hip replacement two months ago. I do not want to neglect to tell you how well I?m doing. I?ve been driving for weeks, finished two weeks of in home rehab after five days in a rehab facility, and four weeks outside rehab. I feel great.
