Dr. Hemp was very nice and helped me and my mom understand how complicated her surgery would be. He broke it down it simple terms we could understand. I appreciated that very much. He has a warm smile and I appreciated his honesty.

Dr. Hemp is a fantastic surgeon and treated my husband with the utmost respect. He was diagnosed with lung cancer and had a left lower lobe removed. Dr. Hemp's Physicians assistants were also very professional. His front desk is responsive and very friendly.

Dr. James Hemp performed my triple bypass surgery in April, 2017. He did a superb job. His pre surgical manner was fantastic. He was honest, yet compassionate. I had no complications. I was very impressed with his post surgical removal if drainage tubes. Fast, accurate, skillful. Amazing. Follow up care was very thorough. Wonderful.

Dr. Hemp is a great cardio-thoracic surgeon. He is a true professional! Dr. Hemp performed my Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery and provided wonderful care. He also has a fantastic team, who are empathic and truly care about their patients' treatment and progress. I will be forever grateful!

I am filing a complaint with the California medical board for inadequate anesthesia following a painful lung surgery that was not survived. A patient should never request to be killed due to inadequate pain management.

I was referred to Dr. Hemp by my cardiologist (we live several hundred miles from San Diego in Arizona) and went for a consult. Everything was settled and an appointment made for triple bypass surgery. Facing this type of surgery is unnerving to say the least! Rightly or wrongly, because of the exteme professionalism shown by Dr. Hemp and his staff, and the folks at Scripps Mercy Hospital, I had zero concern about surviveability but only on how much would recovery hurt and how soon could I get back to work (we own a small business). Did it hurt? For a couple of days I was very uncomfortable but by the fourth day I was discharged and walked back to our hotel (a short distance but several hundred yards). My recovery was much better than I expected. When I went to physical therapy sessions I was far better than my counterparts who had surgery elsewhere. I cannot say enough praise for Dr. Hemp and all the professionals who participated in my pre and post op experience. Terrific doctor and team! Had a triple bypass one year ago today. Both Dr. Hemp, his staff, and the Scripps Mercy hospital staff were a fantastic team. One word describes the experience: Professionalism!

Dr. Hemp and his staff are amazing. I had to have major heart surgery and the care I received was absolutely the best. Dr. Hemp was so gentle and answered all my questions. I would suggest anyone needing heart surgery meet with him before you make your decision.

Dr. Hemp did my AVR and aorta replacement surgery. Everything from first appointment, to the time when he told me that I can return to my normal activities went great. Besides being a great surgeon, Dr. Hemp took his time to answer all the concerns about surgery and during post-surgery period.
