Dr. James G Elipas

I am a diabetic. I developed 15 ulcers on the right leg, my left leg was amputated in 2015. Dr Elipas saw pictures of my leg and studied them, Gangrene was already setting in. After studying them he called me and said “ I think I can save your leg” but he could only give me a 50-50 chance. Well after talking with my family I took the chance. We went to surgery and when I saw my foot it looked like it went thru a meat grinder. As of today, I have one ulcer left, my foot is back. Thanks to him.

He was thorough and wonderful. Operated on a neuroma in my right foot. Healed instantaneously. Just watched my girlfriend have the same operation from a different doctor. She’s still hobbling after 4 months. I kept telling her to see Dr Elipas. In my opinion, you can’t find a better foot surgeon. Great personality too.

I wish I could give him zero stars. After a bunionectomy 12 years ago my life has never been the same. He over corrected the toe (hallux verus) so badly that I can barely walk today. I have a reconstruction surgery on the books, but will never be able to run again. I am 35 and an athlete. Dr Elipas is a horrible doctor. He lied to me when I went into post-op visits and told me my over correction was normal. Unfortunately I know first hand more people who used Elipas and have the same problem.

Dr. James Elipas is a very caring doctor. He is the type that will talk to you about your other health problems and is willing to you give advice and suggest a doctor that you might see. I had to have knee replacements 10 years ago several doctors told me that they would only do the left knee, but not the right due to vascular problems. Dr. Elipas suggested I see Dr. Mark Bowen at Northwestern and with in 2 months I had a new right knee and 2 months after that I had a new left knee.
