Great Dr. Got me out of Pain!!! Terrific staff too!!!

He told me that my hypermobility and joint pain was caused by my PTSD and recommended me 2 books and said if I cured my PTSD my hypermobility and fibromyalgia would go away along with many other things that did nothing but invalidate all of my symptoms. Horrible doctor who doesn't care to find an answer to his patients ailments and pushes his books and diet even if you aren't overweight. Run far and run fast. I also had to wait over 2 hours for him to actually see me in an empty waiting room and only saw 2 patients walk out. He also made me feel uncomfortable about my SD. She had to task for me at one point and he was very rude. I didn't think to post a review until now as I didn't want to think about him ever again but upon the reviews I now know I'm not alone and felt it was worth it to post.

Been a patient for many years. Appointment is identical each time and goal seems to be strong prescriptions...other than a low carb diet no other options are ever deemed viable. Also received a threatening letter over a $28 copay balance...very unprofessional. Clean office, nice people, but not a great fit for me.

I found Dr. Dowd during a google search. I looked over his reviews and wasn't completely sure this was going to work. I did however read his background, studies and that over ruled any doubt I had going into the appointment. Dr. Dowd is by far one of the best Dr.'s out there. He was extremely thorough and I have a complete game plan moving forward. Blood work, x-ray to rule anything out and diet plan. I have been under Dr. Dowd’s care for over 20 years, when I went to see him the first time he was very direct and explained the importance of care to control RA. Like most people I didn’t like what I was hearing, however, when I went to him I couldn’t stand on my feet for more than 5 minutes, walk, and had a generalized pain that nothing would stop it. Unfortunately yes, diet is most important- it doesn’t mean you can’t eat- you can eat good fresh foods. To resume my experience; in a short while I was able to take care of my children again, live a full life and 20 years after I still work full time and do much more. Since then I have done my own research also, he is not wrong it just corroborated everything he has told me. I do recommend Dr. Dowd if you are serious about getting your condition under control. Very thorough evaluation and quick diagnosis. Immediately followed up on test results.

Not impressed. Waited 20 minutes beyond my appointment time and still no sign of the doctor. Night blind and had to drive home in the dark. Very seriously needed to see a rheumatologist. Obviously I was not a priority

He walked into the room with the mission to diagnose me with fibromyalgia and did. When I asked if this diagnosis explained my recurrent joint dislocations, heart murmur and bruising with activities, he lost his temper with me. He told me I was suffering from ptsd and was being hypervigilint. Apparently vitamin D and a high fat diet will cure me. I have thyroid issues and need to watch my cholesterol . XCELLENT ! Very knowledgeable in rheumatoid diet ! Highly recommended !

I waited over an hour and a half to see this Dr. The staff kept knocking on the door to the room saying time. Unfortunately I could hear what he what he was discussing. When he entered my room he began asking questions. He proceeded to check my joints for pain. He told me I needed his diet(the one with his name on it ). He also gave me abook to read. He told me that he thought fibromyalgia was a possibility as well. I left discouraged. I waited about 6 months(covid)and decided to try a different rheumatologist..man am I glad I did. She ran all kinds of tests. It was determined I have Sjögren’s syndrome. I have been put on a regimen of meds and feel 90%better. This doctor is laughably out of date and not aware of current research regarding Sjögren’s Syndrome and it’s relationship to dysautonomia and small fiber polyneuropathy. He disrespects the opinion of highly esteemed published experts in the field and yet behaves as though he is the real expert. His physical exam was disrespectful and intentionally provoked pain, he did not respect my request to stop, ignored my medical history, and recommended me to read a book I read 5 years ago and to get trauma therapy I got 5 years ago. He is condescending and ignorant. Avoid this doctor. Thank you, I was a mess when I came to see you. Pain and tremors from my MS were wearing me out. I needed help! Your approach is different but gets us back to healthy on a cellular level.. With the tools given, I was able to lose 65 pounds in 5 months. But even better is that my MS isn't controlling me! My outlook is so much better and I'm back to feeling healthy and stronger. When I first visited Dr Dowd just under 2 years ago I was miserable. I had been to my traditional MD, tried physical therapy and an Orthopedic Surgeon. I even tried massage and Laser Pain Therapy, NOTHING HELPED. He diagnosed me with RA and suggested I get on a Paleo or Keto diet, take vitamin D and fish oil as a supplement. As he put it, I didn't have to make the change, unless I wanted to feel better. I made the vitamin and Paleo switch and a few months later I lost some weight and felt quite a bit better. Then he put me on Hydroxychloroquine, he said it helped some people with RA so why not give it a shot. This was long before Covid came on the scene so don't be misled by why it was suggested. He also said it was OK to use Naproxen every once in a while. My condition was so bad that at one point I was walking with a cane I couldn't swing a golf club and putting on my shoes was a damn chore. Fast forward to today, I just finished three days of hard labor in my yard, according to my fit bit I went 12 miles on Saturday, 10 on Sunday and 14 more on Monday, and these weren't easy miles, I was tearing out ivy, shoveling, hauling and busting by butt! I'm a bit sore but it feels GREAT, I never thought I'd be able to do this kind of activity ever again, I can even swing a golf club again. I still can't putt, but I won't blame that on the doc. The bottom line, Dr. Dowd has changed my life. I'm extremely Grateful. P.S. I'm not perfect on the diet, so don't let that scare you away. Dr. Dowd runs an efficient impersonal office. I was with the office for several years before 2020. Then his office closed, telehealth only. Now, it appears patient centered is a past dream.. He makes no allowances for individual needs, such as a shield opposed to mask. He rarely looks the patient in the eye, preferring to focus on the computer screen. I will NOT refer anyone to him.

Shame on him. Suggested my previous doctor had my diagnosis wrong and kept wanting to sell me useless books. Is this guy even a real doctor? Unbelievable. Look at his website as it looks more like a used car marketing technique.

GREAT !! VERY STRICT DIET, BUT IT WORKS !!! Feel better than I have in YEARS !! Never more than 15 minute wait !

Dr. Dowd took time with me on short notice and near a holiday. He stayed late and ran the right tests to diagnose what several other doctors had not only missed but had treated me with increasing doses of antibiotics when no infection was present.

missed my diagnosis which left me in debilitating pain for another 2 years until I finally saw another rheumatologist (she figured it out within 2 minutes of me describing my symptoms). also lectured me on the paleo diet and how all my pain was in my head and that i had to stop focusing on it so much. thanks a bunch, DO NOT GO HERE

Good notes, Office staff was very friendly, clean office, bad notes, appointment confirmation routine, terrible. Who has time to confirm your appt 2-3 times when one works full time! I made the appt and they cancelled it due to non confirmation on the second call? Ridiculous coming from someone who works in medical office. Dr was not friendly, seemed impatient and never thanked my mother and I when we left, rude. Pushes his diet which is something I actually believe in but dang....Waited 2.5 weeks for routine lab work and inquired on it by phone and fax with no return call until today on the third call. By that time I pulled it up myself from the lab. Had a person(no title given) call for the Dr on labs which basically blamed my BMI for all my issues. Dr. Dowd could be helpful if you are someone that already has a diagnosis. If you are in search of a diagnosis, do not waste your time. This is not a review of "he just gave me a diet to follow" like many of the rest. I am a 21 year old with chronic muscle pain and neurological issues for over a year now and waited very long to get in with Dr. Dowd. I brought in all of my medical records and he did not even take a look at them. The physical exam was about 3 minutes and he did not feel that bloodwork was necessary. He asked if anyone has ever measured my vitamin D levels before, I said no, and then he proceeded to say "They are probably fine, you look like you tan" (I do not tan). After explaining to him that I had a very fortunate childhood and I live a relatively stressful free life, he ended the appointment by saying my pain is caused by stress by my (apparently bad) parents and that I need to learn to be my own person and make my own decisions (my parents have always treated my sister and I so well). He explained the situation like my parents neglected me and beat me? He left me in the office saying Happy Holidays and did not need to make a follow up. I see Dr. Dowd for treatment of my Ankylosing spondylitis. First I have to say that after years of trouble I finally got a diagnosis from Dr. Dowd. I have continually begun to feel better during the 2 years that I have been seeing him for care. I like the fact that he encourages a healthy lifestyle. I think it's a welcome change from doctors that push pain medications that are addictive and sometimes more harmful. You must be willing to put some work in to help yourself.

Been taking our daughter to Dr. Dowd for almost 10 years. Amazing doctor.

What an amazing Dr! After two other horrible experiences with Rheumatologists I was very sceptical but decided to try one more time. Dr Dowd is amazing! He was very thorough but did not send me on wasteful tests. You can tell this gentleman loves what he does and cares about people!

Dr. Dowd was very helpful and spent two hours thoroughly reviewing my case with me when other doctors were quick to throw their hands up -- I wish all doctors were this thorough and genuinely interested! I specifically sought out a rheumatologist who would understand my desire to do everything within my power to improve my health naturally, and that is exactly what Dr. Dowd recommends, beginning with the Paleo diet. As for the person who commented about Dr. Dowd "lecturing" about the Paleo diet, I would recommend researching the evidence of the benefits of the Paleo diet (and even further, the AutoImmune Paleo Diet) with autoimmune disorders. "Everyone" isn't doing it because it takes a lot of dedication and many people would much rather take medicine to subside symptoms than address the root cause of the issue. I don't understand people who go to a doctor for advice and then complain about the advice. Dr. Dowd suggested the pailo diet and I have lost 20 lbs. I am able to walk down the stairs in the morning without having to grab the rail as well as having the other hand on the opposite wall. I still have stiffness, more comfortable than before as it is reduced as I become more active. The doctor may seem reserved to some people (and this is my take) as so not to upset some. Great seance of humor.

What a jerk. Focused the entire appointment on my weight and neglected what the blood work. Compared me to a rat. Yes dumb rats overeat and so do dumb humans. Smart rats can learn to eat healthy and so can smart humans. The smart patient found an intelligent physician who ordered the proper tests and discovered the real medical issue. One week into treatmenf-lost 10lbs. Learn your patients, their true diagnosis and not just their physical appearance. Complete waste of time and money.

Arrogant, wants to sell his book and vitamin he endorses. Completely focuses on the wrong things and loves to hear himself talk. He does not listen to the patient and seeing him is a waste of money and time.

I came to Dr Dowd on the recommendation of my PC. I found him to be arrogant and disinterested. I came with complaints of joint pain. That was not the focus of my appointment with him. He chose to focus on my weight, which he mention a dozen times, He insisted on the Paleo diet instead of what would reduce my daily pain. I knew it was possible I was diabetic and he dropped the info without care. I will not keep my follow up appt. as far as I’m concerned I wasted $156. I will go to my own Dr.

This man saved my life.

Dr. Dowd is an innovative, inquisitive physician who thinks "outside the box." He always has time to talk to me about new therapies. I am another who feels that he "saved my life." He is honest and frank, and I appreciate his candor.

My family dr. Referred me to Dr dowd, when I had a servere osteoarthritis attack in my foot & he also said he'll help with your diet (I was trying to get off of all my prescription med for cholesterol & hi blood pressure. Since the first visit no more attacks, lost alot of weight & off the meds. Very caring dr.

Doctor Dowd was a great help in treating my arthritis and gout. My gout was so severe that I was in a wheelchair. Dr Dowd treated me and in over just a month I was able to walk with a cane. Now I walk normally and with his help have maintained a the improvement to my mobility.

Dr. Dowd Has taken care of me for years & I feel he has saved my life. I could never repay him for working with me in finding the best shot for my arthritis. He has never made me feel I was being rushed. He is a lot of fun & is truly a gift from God!

I would recommend Dr . Dowd to anyone suffering with RA. When I first came to see him I couldn't even put on my clothes without help. I do everything with my hands and every joint was inflamed and swollen. After treating with Dr. Dowd for two months I was back doing everything I could do before. I call him the Magic Man. Thank you Dr. Dowd
