Dr. James Christopher Califf

Dr. Califf repaired my broken femur, and I could not be happier. I hope to never again need an orthopedic surgeon, but if I do, I will pray that the next one is as good as Dr. Califf.

Dr Califf did my back surgery and the pain went away immediately. Very cordial and explained everything.

Dr. Calif treated my wife after all three bones broke in her ankle. (Tibia, Fibula and Talus) He did a great job working us in on a Sunday July 4th weekend. We are from Indiana and were on vacation when the ankle was broken (fortunately our last day in Boone/Blowing Rock area) We followed his instructions and when we met with our Orthopedic Doctor in Lafayette Indiana she indicated that the operation was very well done and we were able to take the stitches out right on time. I would highly recommend Dr. Califf for his expertise, dedication, bedside manner, experience, good advice and skill. Dr Califf and his staff are always top notch ! He performed my back surgery along with a arm and knee surgery. He always listens and find the best option for my care he truly cares about his patients. I high recommend him !!

Had total knee replacement on April 24, 2020. Am having tremendous pain at this date. Have asked for MRI (would of course have artifact due to metal), but was told not indicated. I am desperate for solution to the pain I have at level 7.5-8 24hrs./day. I feel that I am being brushed off and not being heard. Have lost 9lbs. due to chronic pain (only weighed 117 at surgery) and I cannot tend to things at home due to wanting to get off this knee. Sleep is 3 to 4hrs. night due to pain.

Dr Califf exemplified patience, concern and skill when performing surgery on my lower back in 2017. Three years later my back is working correctly with no pain. Glad he is located in Boone.

Dr. Califf is awesome. You can tell he really care about his patients. I am lucky to have found him.

Worst doc I have ever been to. Broke little finger on Saturday and ER was not able to set it and told me to go to an ortho dr for setting and a plate. Monday got in to Dr. Calif. He did nothing but X-ray and send me away. I was shocked, but figured he knew this was best... After splint came off I thought all would be back to normal. But now had to go to a hand specialist and 4 more months with this the new doc who did everything he could to straighten out Calif’s negligence... the light is seen at the end of the tunnel. But my finger does not look or work right because it never even got set by dr calif! I trusted him and he could not care less about patience care.

Dr Califf is not only a very skilled surgeon, but a great advisor on critical surgery decisions. His personal style is warm and knowledgeable. Just as important, he is well respected and liked by his team and hospital staff. We are lucky to have him in Boone!

Dr. Califf is a knowledgeable professional who also cares about his patients. He exemplified patience, concern, and skill in treating my child’s injury. He stays on the cutting edge of research but also takes a personal interest in his patience.
