The best jaw surgery experience I could have had. Dr.Bates and his staff are 10/10.

Not even reliable for 1 star. I would not give any star for dr. James bate or his horrible staffs. I had consultation appointment on September, 2019. They said I have to pay only $90 which I had paid. I did not had done any treatment only it was consultation appointment. After I done with consultation they said I am good to go since I paid $90 copay. After 3 months they sent me $1500 bill in 12-2019 and said I had to pay this bill. They sent me three notice and then sent for collection. I still do not understand why I should pay while I had consultation appointment and not any treatment done from dr. James bate. While consultation with dr. James he was very unprofessional, looks very psycho. Me and my husband thought he should definitely should take any psychologist and specific treatment. Dr. Bates is simply the best. After going to multiple Oral Surgeons that said they couldn't fix my jaw, Dr. Bates had full confidence that he could. Surgery went smooth and for the first time in 15 years I am pain free. Everything went exactly as he said it would and it was actually alot cheaper than I thought it would be. This place is horrid. Needs new staff Would never ever recommend this place to anyone. I called just to schedule an exam regarding my daughters wisdom teeth and whoever I spoke with was so rude I just ended up hanging up. I’ll take my business elsewhere.

Dr. Bates was very condescending and demeaning in my consultation. He was extremely sarcastic and had poor bedside manner. He continued to gripe about how my earring was in the way of all the images and would ask my why I could not open my mouth further. When I responded "it hurts" he did not seem to care at all that I was in pain. As far as the earring goes it was fused closed and I have not been able to remove it since the wreck when I tried to explain that he continued to cut me off each and every time. I think I was cut off in mid sentence about 15 times through my consultation. My favorite was when her personally insulted me when I did not understand a question. I was trying to clarify and instead just got insults dished at me the entire time. Even if he was the only specialist I would rather deal with the pain than see him. He lacks empathy and should take a course on bedside manners. He even quizzed me about how I obtained my dental molds and such and when I told him he dismissed That Explanation. He also told me that everything was in alignment and my retainers should fit... but they do not. Never did he even have me put them on To even check. This accident I was in was extremely traumatic and has impacted multiple portions of my life. I did not need to be treated by him poorly on top of everything else I have to deal with. The only reason this review gets 1 star is because he staff was very pleasant. I should have listened to the recent terrible google reviews on his office. I would also like to mention that I was there 12 minutes before my appointment time and still had to wait 20 minutes past my scheduled time. The office staff is horrible to patients. I hate having to call them. The office manager has been less than fun to work with. They treat patients as if they have something better to do then deal with you unless your hanging them a CC. When I brought this to the attention of Dr bates unfortunately nothing was done. You are charged for everything. They don't tell you what to expect to pay before your visit so you find out when your leaving and act like you can't leave till the bill is paid. I asked for records to use to fight the insurance for a procedure and never got them so now im requesting all so I don't have to ask again. Let's just say very expressive purchase. When I asked the other doctor and ortho to use in my fight they said no problem and I got them same day without being charged or waiting. Dr. Bates office staff is too busy so I may have to wait 15 days to get mine from him. They don't submit all codes to insurance which is a problem for me. All in all it feels like it's all about money and not patient care. I went to get a second opinion and spoke to other office's near by and they stated that the way Dr. Bates charges its as if he is out of network. He charges a minimum of $10,000 more for an orthognatic surgery. When I confronted the office staff they gave me a lame excuse and told me they have things to do before closing. Jaw surgery is a major thing - especially when you’re supposed to have 3 separate procedures. So we read the reviews carefully when we were referred to Dr. Bates. I, personally, have had such a great experience - and I don’t feel like I’m the most low-maintenance patient either. Dr. Bates is always patient and answers all questions (and both my mom and I have had a lot...). He makes sure we understand what he’s taking about before moving on to the next part. Appointments never feel rushed or like he’s in a hurry, which is nice. He’s taken time to call me personally when needed. Courtney, the treatment/insurance coordinator, is amazing. She is SO patient with me. She answers all my calls or calls me back in a timely manner and is always willing to help or look into something for me. She even took my mom’s call (I’m 27, but moms are moms) and answered all of her questions, with proper permission of course. She’s just so sweet. I don’t know if I’d be as patient with all my calls as she is! Our insurance has given us a little trouble but no issues whatsoever from Dr. Bates’ office’s end! They have definitely helped us so much along the way. I have not had surgery yet, due to the delay with COVID-19, but given our previous research and how we considered these reviews, I felt it might be helpful to add my recent experience with consultation and pre-op appointments and pre-authorization with insurance! I have a jaw problem for more than 10 years he did my surgery and now I’m pain free thanks doctor bates .

Dr. Bates performed my wisdom teeth extraction about two weeks ago. His office is professional, clean and overall well run. I was completely happy with everything that happened and felt like I was in good hands. I did have to pay for the consultation so be prepared for that, but like most things, you get what you pay for. Dr. Bates and his staff are great! He removed both our daughter and son’s wisdom teeth and did a great job! We would highly recommend him!

Dr. Bates and his staff are very professional and accommodating. I have gone through an initial evaluation and he diagnosed my condition quickly. I know I must have surgery to correct this problem and I will do so. He seemed to genuinely care about my welfare. His entire staff was friendly and competent. They all deserve 5's.

My husband just had a consultation with this doctor since he works directly with our orthodontist. We were both told over the phone that the consultation was free. However, when the time came, they told us that it was $250 and they wanted a follow up appointment for around the same price. When I called to get an explanation they told me that the front desk never tells clients the consultation is free. I went to three other doctors and Bates had a totally different treatment plan for me. Of course I went with one of the other Drs! I don’t even want to imagine what my mouth would of been like if I would’ve trusted this Dr! And Dr bates was in my network and the other Dr was not.. and Bates office wanted to charge me almost the same price as the out of network Dr!! I do not recommend this office. I was in and out with no wait and the price went way down for the replacement device that I needed

If you want your SO to be forced to wait in the office during the procedure with an entitled staff who think a little too much about themselves and not enough about their patient - then this person is for you

Not a match if you have good insurance and want to use it. We went through the entire process with this office and had a date scheduled for our daughter's jaw surgery. We finally realized that this office was not interested in honoring negotiated insurance rates. Our insurance provider told us they would cover the entire surgery, but Dr. Bates' office was not even willing to file some of the services and wanted payment upfront. We switched to a surgeon who honored our insurance & saved $15,000

I had a lump removed from my lip a few years ago and that experience still makes me angry. Not only did he not anesthetize the way he promised, he hurt me and then let me go home without antibiotics. He didn't respect me as a person and then tried to get an EXTRA $1100 out of me after my insuranec and I both paid. Stay away.

When finding a surgeon for your child (15yr old) yes still a child you want to feel he/she is the most important person in the chair. Dr Bates bedside manner was less than subpar. That's the nicest thing I can say about him. He asked questions and didn't bother to listen to the answer. He cut both my daughter and I off several times. Lockjaw is very scary he might want to remember he's not the one going through it, he's supposed to fix it!!!! That's what he gets paid the big Dallas $$$$ for....

Terrible office staff. Never had a worse experience with a doctor and his staff.

This is my second time visiting Dr. Bates and both times it has been a phenomenal experience. I personally felt very well taken care of like I was a priority to Dr. Bates as well as his staff.

Appointment times were accurate...very little waiting.....very friendly staff that helped and guided me through the insurance process. Couldn't be more pleased with the results!

Run the other way. For a dental implant he told me that sinus lift is required for total $8,000. He wanted $5000 for this procedure when other dentist only charge $3000. I went to another oral surgeon who disregarded Dr. Bates and only charged for dental implant $2800. Dr Bates wanted to overcharge me for $5400. He also billed my insurance company $550 for consultation which normally is free by most if not all Oral Surgeon. Don't get fooled by the Board Certified advertising bate. I stumbled upon Dr. Bates by googling "maxillofacial surgeon" after breaking the palate of my mouth and I'm glad I did so. Dr. Bates and his crew are the perfect blend of friendly and professional. He has fixed my 'bite' better than three years of orthodontics. I would highly recommend.
