Dr. Jae Chul Kim

After 30 years of mental health treatment my doctor retired referring me here . Dr Kim refused to give me a 6-week supply of medication when I was visiting Thailand for work. When I returned he cut me off as a patient and to this day refuses to transfer my records. He also charged Blue Cross for the appointment where he indicated he would no longer treat me. Unethical is an understatement. His office is constructed of the thinnest trailer paneling with no privacy. Extremely rude Staffing that reeks of incompetence.

I saw Dr Kim when I was 18. He had no compassion at all. I was hospitalized and told him I didn't feel comfortable seeing him. He yelled at me calling me bad a manipulator and a liar. When my parents and I met with him before I moved out if state he talked about me as if I wasn't in the room. He said some very nasty things about me saying what a liar I was. Never go see this dr! I thought that it was fine at first but after getting a new psychiatrist I know that his care is not adequate. He only wanted to up my medications and never recommended I go to therapy as well. I was 19, at the beginning of my mental health journey, and had no idea what I was doing to know otherwise. I became addicted to medications that I told him I didn't like how they made me feel, and he said "well do you want to get better?" and told me to continue taking them. He also never really listened to what I was saying, like my new psychiatrist does, and would cut me off when I was talking about how I was feeling. He also tried to tell me that I couldn't have any coffee and couldn't even eat chocolate cause there are traces of caffeine in it... He also tried to tell me not to study abroad and became angry when I said I was going to anyways. He said it would be bad for my mental health, but I wasn't going to deprive myself of a once in a lifetime experience for this. So he told me he wouldn't prescribe me my medications for while I was there, and that is when I stopped seeing him. I am sure he is fine for some people, but not for me and my needs. The waiting room was really dirty, like bugs on the windowsill and cobwebs that have been building up for who knows how long. I went in for issues with ADD that I have been dealing with my whole life. He stated that the symptoms I had were not ADD, but were from drinking coffee. Not realistic, since coffee has the opposite effect on me and calms me down. Very rude when I was trying to answer questions saying I wasn’t answering questions like I am supposed to. Lacks professionalism

Unorganized. Waited 2 years to send first bill.

Walked out of the office after the intake appointment very confused. I answered all his questions. He said I would benefit from treatment but he won’t treat me.

I have never felt more depressed or completely disregarded than my intake with Dr Kim. Kept calling me “difficult” for being confused and coming in with a prior diagnosis.

He's hard to understand speaking sometimes BUT he gets the job done. You have to remember he is NOT a therapist or a counselor to tell all your whoas to. He prescribes medications. His questions are directly related to your well being on meds, not your emotions or chatty chat.

best psychiatrist.the bad reviewers need to see a psychologist.

I had a good experience. Talked things over, no rush, he answered any questions I had and explained very thoroughly. I'd recommend.

He has always told me how my medication will affect me, and what lifestyle changes I can make to help it work better. He has explained my condition and how that contributes to how I feel. He always listens if something new is going on in my life if I happened to be feeling good/bad since the last appointment. He is a medical doctor, not a therapist, but I've benefitted more from my appointments with him than any general practioner or therapist before. Between medication & stopping all caffeine, my anxiety is better controlled than ever before. No doctor had explained how those work together before Dr. Kim. Waited 2 years to send first bill.

Dr Kim, does not have any compassion at all. I have seen him for over two years and finally seen his true colors. He will not listen to what you have to say but will interrupt you "yelling" and this is a quote from him ,"You might not like what I have to say but I don't care." He thinks as he stated 'Dr. Kim knows everything." My opinion he needs to go back to school because the first thing a psychologist learn is to be compassionate and listen. He double books his patients and has to tush you out so he can get to the next patient. To me that is a doctor only interested in money. By him yelling at me I left his office in tears. I came to Dr. Kim for help with my ADHD. He refused to help me with it because I have depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder as well and wanted to treat them first. I agreed to be patient and let him treat me. But then I didn't feel like he listened to me. I am college educated and have done a lot of self work and been through a lot of therapy and other doctors. Beyond the language barrier his terrible lack of willingness to listen and work with me instead of against me made me feel like he just didn't care what I thought, how I felt or whether we ever got to treating my ADHD. I plan to find another Psychiatrist as soon as possible.

He's an idiot, I suffer severe anxiety and he's blaming on my 4 cans coca cola

Kim is an unprofessional doctor who lacks compassion. All I did was suggest an alternative anti-depressant and he discharged me from his practice stating we didnt get along. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Unfortunately, this review is not about the doctor. I never even went to my appointment, because the "office manager" was very rude!! I called in to see if there were any cancellations two days prior to my originally scheduled appointment. She asked for my name, which i gave and spelled it. She said that i am not in their system at all. I told her that i made an appointment with a new employee a couple weeks ago. She told me that she was on vacation last week and no record of me in their system. I said ok, but i have an appointment on August 9th , not sure on the specific time but its between 8am and 10am if she could look. She then started yelling that my last name is not anywhere on that day, that they have the last name of "brieur" . Scheduled, wow !!! That is so close to my name. Wouldn't it be logical to ask if that is me? She said that she is going to hang up on me, for just being logical. I told her that i can make this really easy, cancel my appointment and i will write a review of my experience. Not sure how she can manage an office, when she can't even manage herself. To begin, there was what seemed to be a cultural barrier of communication, I was continually told to stop talking, that he only wanted a direct, limited answer to the questions he asked; as a psychiatrist, this seemed quite counter intuitive... It seemed as if I was being portrayed as rude, when, in reality, I was simply providing input into my situation. The doctor then explained that the extensive research I had reviewed (scholarly, peer reviewed, national sources for condition specific research) was wrong, and instead expressed his "understanding" through proverbs and obscure analogies. Finally, the final diagnosis was that I simply needed to find a way to reduce/remove the sources of responsibility in my life (career, college, family and children) that were causing the inability to gain clarity and improve my ability to focus. This visit left me feeling as if I had been disserviced in the most unethical way possible. Dr. Kim is a good Dr. No complaints. His front desk person is very unprofessional and unpleasant, she must be new employee and she's not good at her job, terrible customer service skills. I don't know why she's working in a psychiatrist office, she's uncouth, rude, sarcastic, judgemental and not the type of person anyone should have to deal with while seeking help from the Dr. For mental reasons. Very Mean, non accommodating, non-compliant and provoking. I've never experienced such unprofessionalism. She should not be working in any medical setting at all. Especially in a place where people need help mentally. Dr. Kim does not deserve someone like her to be working for him, she's is not a good example nor a good representation for such a good psychiatrist like Dr. Kim. Great Dr... Really listens and asks the right questions to make sure he fully understands you.. this isn't just his job and he doesn't do it for just money. He is genuinely there to help you, if you want the help.

After suffering from depression for many years and anxiety that manifested into severe Panic attacks and participation in therapy/ counseling, I found myself in Dr. Kim’s office. He is the ONLY Doctor to explain these conditions in a way I finally understood. He helped me find the correct and necessary medications to stabilize my depression and anxieties when no other doctor did for me. I followed his instructions-no caffeine ( stimulant that cause medication to work through your system)and exercise as well as self examination. I have never felt better or clearer in my mind and life. You have to follow his advice as a professional if you really want help from him and not make excuses or place blame on others or environment. Upon my first visit I was very skeptical and taken back by his inability to counsel clients. I had to remember he is a psychiatrist not a therapist, after many meetings and his explanation of my diagnosis I really began to like his techniques. He has helped me through my issues that I have been having. He is really nice once you voice how you are sleeping,feeling,etc. Not a lot of options in the flint area, nothing wrong with giving him a try! we went to a variety of psychologists and psychiatrists . Dr. Kim was the only one who took my daughters blood and monitored the amount of meds in her system and also discovered that she had a thyroid that wasn't working

I have been seeing Dr Kim for 3 yrs. What I like about him is he has given me a medical diagnosis to my issues. And explained in length why I am wired the way I am. I appriciate the no bs that I have always gotten from therapy. Once I knew what is wrong it has given me something to work with. He has also told me to stop talking. You can't learn anything if your talking all the time. He told me to stop drinking coffee. Since, my anxiety has gotten much better. I respect Dr Kim.

I would advise looking elsewhere

Went in for help, would not help or even see me as a patient because I’m on disability, terrible service, avoid at all costs

Very unprofessional. Runs his evaluation session as it were a military drill. The psychiatric field has changed a lot since the 1950s....this guys approach hasn’t. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Not a people person by any means. I feel like that's important in his area of work. Charges me 15 dollars for me to go in for 5 mins and ask me 2 questions then get refills. He can be very rude.

Very unprofessional wants to see you every 3 weeks when no med change. Drills you while yp u are there and tells yl i what your doing wrong and if you don't fix it.to his liking the. you don't want help according to him no compassion at all.
