Dr. Ira Dean Gelb

I have seen Dr Gelb several times over the last 12 years. The wait is always at least 30 minutes, total time spent there at least an hour, so plan on that. When I first came to his office, 12 years ago, he took time to explain and was thorough, though he recommended surgery for a knee that was ultimately treated successfully with physical therapy. In another visit, his recommendation for no surgery on my spine was a good one. My latest appointment in 2021 lasted 6 minutes, and he constantly interrupted my answers to his rushed questions. It was a most frustrating experience. Upon leaving, I asked the front desk how many patients he sees. She replied, "In a day?" So, on a typical day he sees 40 patients. He's a smart doctor, and some (not all) of his treatments and recs are good, but you've almost got to be a doctor yourself to discuss treatment options and diagnoses. And you definitely have to talk fast!!

I've taken my daughter to Dr. Gelb for both a collar bone break and most recently, hip and knee pain that he quickly diagnosed as iliotibial band syndrome. With both injuries, Dr. Gelb was thorough, listened to my daughter and took the time to talk with us at every visit. I find him to be a great doctor and I would highly recommended him. The staff are all friendly and helpful. We have zero complaints. Both my husband and I are patients of Dr Gelb.My husband needed a copy of his xrays and was told it would cost $10 for the DVD. I have never been charged for a copy of a scan before by any doctor's office. In fact I recently requested my entire 9 yr history of scans from Advanced Radiology which were 6 DVD's and they didnt charge me a penny and included the notes as well. If you pay for the xrays you should not be charged for a copy of it. Period! It sends a very negative message to your patients. Hip consult #2 It was my first time seeing Doctor Gelb today for severe hip pain and he completely marginalized my pain while I was sobbing in his office. He also said nothing was wrong and suggested PT even though the chief of ortho at mercy hospital, Dr. Hungerford explained to me clearly what is wrong and suggested surgical intervention as a treatment method. Dr. Gelb referred me to “physical therapy” which is absolutely awful as I am bed bound from the pain and can barely walk. I was able get an appointment the same day. Dr. Gelb is both professional and easy to talk to. He did surgery on my knee three years ago and was pleased with the results.

I had a horrible experience with this doctor. When concerns were raised about a specific treatment he recommended instead of explaining his reasoning and easing our anxieties, he stormed out of the and didn’t even explain how long the alternative treatment should be used for not how to move forward. Dr. Gelb did not listen to everything I told him about my problem. He was not very professional as he spoke quite loudly in the hallway so that all could hear what he was saying. He wanted to do a knee rep,ace,net without even ordering a MRI. I went for a second opinion, received an MRI and found out all I have is a meniscus tear.

Repaired my completely torn ACL and surgery couldn’t have gone smoother. 2 weeks later, I’m seeing amazing progress compared to the norm. Recovery is going great, and believe a large part of that is due to diligent work on Dr. Gelb’s part.

I have had the pleasure of seeing two doctors within CAO. At least 2 or 3 visits were appointments made the same day or the day before. Knowing I was likely worked into a busy schedule I was prepared to wait. Yet every time I hardly sat down in the waiting room before being brought back. Front desk staff as well as back office staff are very friendly and efficient. I didn’t wait long for the doctor (most recently Dr Gelb who is just amazing and friendly). I felt like he l listened to me and was quite accommodating to my needs. I highly recommend the practice as a whole and specifically Dr Gelb and Dr Sethi although I get the sense that all the providers are just as good. Seriously. Can’t recommend this practice enough! I found Dr. Gelb to be friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I appreciate his outstanding care.

I found Dr. Gelb to be professional and knowledgeable concerning my issues. He gave his time to listen. A very important quality for every patient and he tried not to rush my visit with him.

Terrible experience. Spent no time with me. Barely did an exam. Did not allow me to speak to explain my situation. He seemed arrogant and disinterested. He also mentioned surgery on the first visit, after five minutes. I will never go back to Dr. Gelb.

Dr. Gelb was attentive, friendly, and approached my situation with concern. He was reassuring and made a stressful experience more bearable. I would recommend him as a doctor.

Dr Gleb was personal, professional and was very informative. I felt cared for and listened to. He gave me things to help heal my arm and took his time with me.

The service is exceptional. My problem was addressed with care.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. My experience with Dr. Gelb was similar to the others. His wait times are horrible. He is extremely rude and arrogant. He didn't bother to listen to my concerns or really take the time to access my issue. He is the worst doctor that I have ever encountered. He lacks bedside manner. He makes negative comments about your health concerns. On my last interaction with him, I called ahead to discuss the appointment, the nurse placed me on hold and spoke to him about my issue and assured me that he could help. I take time off for my appointment and when I arrive, he was very dismissive, called me a liar. Told me that my condition something that I was born with was deteriorating due to my weight gain, not the strenuous activity of my military service. Even though I received less than sub par care from him, he had no problems billing my insurance for his lack of service. He is a fraud. I will never recommend his clinic or him to anyone.

DR. Ira D Gelb performed total shoulder replacement surgery on my left shoulder doctor Gelb's Negligence surgery caused me to suffer extreme pain and suffering.including complications cause by an infection. He is a liar and he ruined my life. DO NOT go to him.

I can't even give him 1 Star.. Dr. Gelb, is a horrible arrogant, unethical and egotistical doctor! He was the on call doctor at the ER when my son broke his ankle on the weekend during a Rugby game. Dr. Gelb was too lazy to come into the ER to see him but told the ER we could come to his office on Monday at 8am. So, we went to his office that Monday at 8am. We filled out all the typical paperwork etc. and waited for over an hour. All while my 16 y/o son is still in horrible excruciatingly pain. When it's our time to see the doctor (the office realizes they don't take our insurance). Dr. Gelb then refused to see us unless we paid the full price for the visit and anything else that might need to be done which was more than I had in my pocket or checking account. Not caring that my 16 y/o is in tears and excruciating pain. Before telling the ER to have us come into his office on Monday, Dr. Gelb should have checked all this out, our insurance etc. He had all that information readily available to him when the ER called him to come into work and when he set up the appointment with the ER for my son to go to his office. I am so glad we didn't go to him. My son obviously didn't and wouldn't have received adequate and professional care. Thankfully, after leaving Dr. Gelb's office we found the greatest doctor in the world who performed the surgery to repair the numerous breaks in his ankle 2 days later. I can't even give him 1 Star.. Very Good Dr, conscientious,knowledgeable, helpful, and caring, and I have seen him over the last 2 yrs for different knee issues. HOWEVER TODAY I waited over 50 minutes to see him and finally left. Watched many patients come and go. Not good in front office, very rude Appt taker, she asked my name 3x when I inquired why it was taking so long each time I went up to her station. Dr. Gelb's team was thoughtful, considerate, organized and efficient. I thank them for direction and support on a challenging day.

My son and daughter have both seen doctor Gelb for shoulder, knee and wrist injuries. He performed shoulder surgery on my son's torn labrum. My husband and I were very pleased with Dr. Gelb's work with both of our children. He is knowledgable, patient and kind. Good sense of humor also.

Long waits to see him and he had a negative comment about everything I asked. Some of the comments he made about my knee pain was very rude. Decided to get a second opinion and very happy with my choice.

Dr Gelb definitely knows his trade. Courteous and listens to analyze the problem.

Dr. Gelb was great! Appointment was easy to schedule, on time and he was kind, informative; and I'll definitely be going back to him if I'm ever in need of an orthopedic again.

Terrible, after not introducing himself, asking me why I even came in to see him and talking over me so I couldn't even explain my pain. I asked for a nurse to be present, to which he called her a "chaperone" and "nitva nurse, a female." I told him he was being an a-hole. He said, "No, your the a-hole" I left telling him not to bill me. He was the rudest doctor, I can't see why he has a license.

Long wait time each visit. Negative comments made about my knee pain in person and during a phone conversation which finally led me to find a new specialist. Best decision I could have made.

Really unprofessional. Openly criticized a radiologist whose report he disagreed with. Said “frankly he isn’t very good”. He talked over my elderly mother who was the patient. Didn’t make eye contact with her. And when I tried to offer some additional information he completely brushed me off.

Very arrogant. I saw him for knee pain from running and he found a very old injury which i suffered a decade ago. He said i never broke my knee in the past and was born with the cracked knee cap. I remember the accident when i broke it, the fall, and the shearing pain. "Dr" Gelb should be avoided at all costs... This guy is NOT who you should see for anything.

Terrible bedside manner. Not patient friendly

Got an AC repair by Dr gelb. He did not give me any details about post op rehab and when I called him on the phone asking questions he was very rude. Also does not know anything about newer shoulder repairs as he has been doing that one repair for many many years.
