Hubert Lee Gooch JR.

Dr Gooch fused 4 of my lumbar vertebra. He was good to work with, explained my options. The surgery was complex. Recuperation time was long but now at 74, a year after the operation, I feel great. Carolina Spine and Neurosurgery was easy to work with.

I went to see Dr. Gooch after 3 failed back surgerie's..I was in so much pain I could barely tolerate it daily. After trying a lot of different treatments Dr. Gooch finally agreed to fix my back. I had a 7 disc fusion. The story is long and details are many so I will just say he gave me years of comfort and though I am having problems again I would recommend him to everyone. I trust this Doctor above all others!

Had appointment in October 2021 for lower back pain that hit a nerve that ran all the way down my right leg to my calf. Explained to Dr. Gooch that if surgery was needed, I wanted to have it in 2021. He recommended therapy. Therapy was not working. Called office and left message requesting an MRI so Dr. Gooch would have the results by my next visit. The office never called back or scheduled the MRI. Follow up visit in November with Dr. Gooch and he ordered the MRI. I again explained if surgery was needed, I wanted it in 2021. The office called to make an appointment to review the MRI on Dec. 10th. They informed me that after that date Dr. Gooch was unavailable for the rest of the year. No surgeries being performed. He could have told me that in October. He knew that his practice was moving and leaving Mission Health. My pain was not his problem. I was able to see Dr. Goebel at EmergeOrtho on Dec. 10th and he performed the surgery on Dec. 14th. Instant pain relief.

Worse experience EVER. came in over an hour late - no apology - no mention, although I passed 8 signs (one in the examining room) indicating if patients are late they will be charged and asked to reschedule ---

Great experience. Surgery in August 2021. Up and going with out any problems.

For the 1st time in years I can stand tall, walk, and sleep without any pain. I had an extremely positive surgery experience with Dr. Gooch, his staff and HCA Mission in Asheville. I am recommending this practice without reservation to any and all that are fighting back pain and limited mobility.

Dr. Gooch is that rare surgeon who considers surgery as a last resort. He is easy to visit with and explains things so that you can understand it.

Friendly and explains well. Not too quick to operate. Very trustworthy

Terrible bedside manner. Dismissed me, told me nothing was wrong with my back. He said he didn't see anything wrong with my images. I left in tears, my husband with me, just as stunned. I think he was looking at someone else's images instead of mine. I have SCOLIOSIS! ????‍♀️

I traveled over 2 hours to see him, he operated on me 19 years ago. There is no one else I would want as my doctor. He is the best!!!!

Without even looking at me, Dr Gooch recommended spinal surgery. 3 minute visit with him and a two hour wait in the waiting room. No explanations, blunt, no alternative suggestions. I chose not to see him again.

Excellent visit, from the receptionist to the nurses to Dr. Gooch. His explanations were clear and easy to understand. His "bed side manner" was professional and helped put me at ease. Couldn't be happier with him as a physician or person.

I have been a patient of Dr Hubert Gooch since 2005, and having multiple successful back surgeries, I have the upmost respect for Dr Gooch and his work. Dr Gooch has always told me his goal in surgery was to make my pain more tolerable. In all three surgeries Dr Gooch has more than met this goal. If your having back problems and the pain more than you can easily tolerate, I would highly advise you to make an appointment with Dr Gooch.

Dr. Gooch was courteous and knowledgeable. He helped me every step of the way. Surgery was great and my pain is completely gone. Very HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Dr Gooch is great. Major back surgery; walking better; no wheelchair. He listens and explains where you do understand. He encourages questions for each follow up visit. Definitely recommend

Excellent...is the only word for the care I have received.DrGooch,David his PA,and the entire office staff are kind ,caring,and make your visits a great experience..if you say that about a doctor's visit...He ordered PT for me to try to avoid surgery..from a surgeon that had been a pleasant surprise...and I am doing SO much better

Went to several orthopedic surgeons to fix my pain. They all said they would fix the problem none did. Then I went to Dr Gooch and he knew exactly what was wrong and was able to get me pain free.

I don't understand the other reviews. I found Dr. Gooch to be very kind, caring and compassionate. He took time to make sure I understood my diagnosis and treatment options. He never seemed rushed and answered all of my questions. Will definitely recommend.

Appointment never happened because they made the appointment in the Asheville office and did not tell me. The Asheville office is 82 miles away. I live in Highlands with is only 19 miles from Franklin. I sat in Franklin for an hour after the appointment waiting for someone show up. If they can't handle an appointment correctly I won't trust them to operate on my neck!!!

What a great guy, really took the time to explain everything to me in terms I could easily understand. Put my mind at rest about the necessity of the surgery my surgeon recommended.

I saw Dr. Gooch after being bounced around the practice. He seemed like a decent Doctor, and seemed to understand my problem. However after seeing him a few times, he told me that he would not do my surgery. He made an excuse that seemed like a lie. I would not recommend him or anyone at that office. The service is sub par, and his nurse that takes all his calls is hateful. My advice is to get your primary care provider to refer you to a practitioner in Charlotte or Winston Salem. Don't waste your time here.

Five minutes in and out. No discussion. Didn't bother to tell me what he saw or offer any compassion. Said, "You're fine, four to six weeks physical therapy." Didn't bother to discuss my pain or what I should do about work. Told me to just go back to work, without restrictions or anything. Tried to follow up and they refuse to see me again. So I guess I'm stuck in pain because there is "nothing he can do for me." A lack of insurance probably influenced his decision. Quite an awful person.

Initial consultation - spent about 2 minutes with me. Kind of sarcastic. Didn't even show me my MRI's. Just held up a plastic prop. Didn't discuss any of my personal problems such as what nerve was involved. Just told me he recommended an injection. Didn't tell me how that would be done or what to expect. When I go back for return visit, I will request a different doctor.

Worst Experience of My Life. I would rather Die than go through it Again. I woke up Screaming, felt like someone had taken a Blow Torch to my Back without Any Pain Medication. I screamed until they sedated me. If I had a gun, I would have stuck it in my Mouth. I would have done Anything to make it stop. I kept asking him what went wrong, and all he would do is shrug his Shoulders. I kept asking the Hospital what went Wrong and they would Direct me right back to him. I Suffered Greatly.

Dr. Hooch was honest and easy to speak with about my concern. That's not an easy find among Dr's.

Dr Gooch is very knowledgeable and listened to my concerns. He went as far helping decide on surgery just mere minutes before. He asked questions and said "I treat the patient not an MRI."No Doctor would put up with my concerns like he did.

Dr. Gooch performed a spinal fusion on my mom's cervical disks, and he and his team were incredible! He has a great bedside manner, is knowledgeable, comforting, and most importantly, he was successful in handling such a risky surgery. I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. G and the entire team at Mission.

Out for insurance company just like the rest of the doctors in the office ? I assume ? Get a second opinion , I did and he was wrong with his recommendations and evaluation. Doing much better today and really trust and like current doctor .

He came in to give my MRI results with no chart, no computer, nothing! Went on to tell me there was no reason for me to have pain and I just needed to stretch in the morning to loosen up. Went on to tell me he didn't know why I ever used a wheelchair. Umm, I never have! Had me confused with someone else! Never pulled up images or reports while in the room. Got my disc and report myself. I have bulging discs, one abutting a nerve plus facet joint issues. Going to another Dr

I have severe Traumatic Brain Injury went for an evaluation and was treated terribly by this man. I could not believe that a Dr. that knows how hard it is for TBI patients to function everyday could be so hateful and aggressive to someone already suffering with head and back trauma . He cursed at me and made me feel threatened and confused. I think he should be checked out by the Medical board.

I had back surgery, and was very impressed (and I am a nurse) with the thorough care and attention to my progress afterwards. Easy to make an appt, and little waiting time in the waiting room.
